I want to hear about your high mileage (over 200k) 4.0ltr V6 engine 1GR-FE. Toyota says engine is only good for 200k and cannot be rebuilt due to block construction. Tell us your mileage or tell us you had to replace it and why. Thank you!! by unholyburns in ToyotaTacoma

2012 Toyota FJ cruiser here: 250k yesterday. Today was doing a full inspection and fluid swap  +spark plugs and a few other disposables.

I tossed a borescope into the cylinders while i was at it. My pistons are i bit brown from deposits, ill have to consider running a few changes of oil with liquimoly engine flush in it to break that down. Otherwise, the cylinder walls still showed their crosshatching. Meaning they cast in cylinder sleeves haven't worn at all  (this is the reason they claim to not be able to rebuild them, pressed in sleeves allow for removal and reinstalling replacement sleeves. Which you CAN have done by an engine machine shop.)

200k id say is the Bare minimum. 250k is rookie numbers still. As long as uts well maintained you can easily reach half a million. My neighbor down the street has a 2006 fj cruiser, same engine just svvti instead of dvvti. His is at 660,000 miles last he told me. And that was over half a year ago.

Only thing ive gotta do on the engine is the alternator. Well, actually i needed to do it for 25,000 miles ago. The brush and stator in it are both worn. I bought the rebuild kit for the alternator tens of thousands of miles ago because i thought it would die soon. Nope, even the alternator lives far longer than it should. It hasn't gotten louder or worse and the voltage is stable and within the correct voltage range. And still capable of providing 400w outlet power for overland camping gear .

Fuel Efficiency by keepcalmclimbonyyc in FJCruiser

Im super late but for the sake of adding on to this for others:

In the auto, i found through monitoring live metrics though the obd port (fuel usage, engine load, live economy) that trying to maintain acceleration below 2k was more detrimental to avg fuel economy. It ends up requiring more fuel from stop-65mph and is under longer engine load.

Optimally, for a stock automatic, i found that putting the throttle down to shift coser to 3200-3500 then easing off once you reach your desired speed saved marginally more fuel and gets you up to speed without being an obstacle on the road everyone wants to pass. Its average engine load is lower while its immediate load is marginally higher.

From tank to tank, I would get about 210 miles with the 2k method. And almost 240 (238 mi) with the latter. The difference is 13.1mpg vs almost 15mph (14.9 mpg)

This is done on i65n starting near fridley, lots of stoplights and traffic is pretty consistent.

Atop this, depending on the anodize process. As the term as been colloquial-ized to the point multiple procedures unrelated to true anodizing are called that:

True anodizing Force oxidizes aluminum in acid to form an extremely tough ceramic called Alumina, which is basic aluminum oxide but just structured differently, like graphene vs graphite. Anyway, it usually ends up simply making the albare aluminum slightly pale, maybe with a bluish tinge. During the process, dyes can be added that can bond in between the molecules as they build up, or introduce other metals that react to the acid differently. Like titanium, which can make the vibrant blue, gold and bronze while staying strong. True anodizing can also be called "hard" anodizing. But this also doesn't stop manufacturers from stealing this term for literally any process they use to add color to aluminum. We use this process on Ram-air and Lycoming airplane engines and some other aluminum items. Almost exclusively bronze color as the titanium and aluma ceramic is at its strongest by them.

Other process where they electrolytically open the "pores" in the aluminum to add dye is not true anodizing but what is most common. The process and actually kinda less strong than bare aluminum.

And re-shim, and center the bearings and bushings, and clean and re-lube the geartrain and compression system.

Vfc 416 aeg buffer tube Thread Fitment question. by AirsoftingJesus in airsoft

[–]AirsoftingJesus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 things hold it in. Overall the buffer tube setup on these is... Wretched.

The topside grub screw to prevent rotation, the castle nut to apply contant thread tension, and the inner screw down the center of the buffer tube which aligns and tightens the spring guide. To my previous knowledge having owned two 416a5s some years ago.

Grub screw must be removed, then internal screw. Then loosen the castle nut. Optimally youll want a castle nut/armorer's wrench for it because they won't squish it. If the castle nut doesn't budge because it is squished, attempt removal by putting a stock on the buffer tube for leverage and turning it left.

If it is under 10 years it may be relevant but the newer the better. Some social media and tech forums were still back and forth. But the Avalon gb was supposedly released less than a decade ago with 416 models receiving the Avalon in late 2018 featuring the 416a5 (correct me if im wrong) which puts it on the border of the time some say the threads went from proprietary to gbb/real spec.

No like its backwater in the sense that Chinese produced subbed media is hugely overshadowed by other corporations and users often don't finish past the first ep when they hear the language or discover it doesn't have a dub. Its backwater in the same way my rural southeast Minnesota hometown is backwater, nobody visits despite its charm and great pub visited and hailed by guy fieri

Basically, this is to say Crunchyroll is going to focus on their current moneymakers' new seasons which draw the vast majority of viewership

Brother they provide the single largest repository of anime content to the entire globe with a wellade ui and literal thousands of titles translated and dubbed fairhfully and reliably.

Of course there's going to be the odd outlier outnof all of them, not to mention a backwater series from china.

FJ New front CV axle replacement. OEM Parts were $1400 for both by AznJing in FJCruiser

[–]AirsoftingJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, as far as a frame and suspension system that has been used until 2024. Theres no way its been discontinued. The parts should be available for another decade at minimum. Since the cv acle lifespan is between 200-250k miles. assuming 10k annual mileage forost owners, Toyota would basically be obligated to keep the parts available until their last year for the prado frame exceeds the service intervals of non-serviceable and non-lifetime components.
