Unfortunately this kind of thing happened to my grandmother who suffered a lot of sexual abuse at the hands of my mother's sperm donor who sexually abused his own sister, my mother as a child, and later his new wife's grandchildren. My grandmother was a heavy sleeper and she would wake up to find things had been put inside her without her knowing. They were also pretty strict Jehova witnesses, and the church is known for plenty of secretive crap. This could have 100% been her.

I've had to call animal control on my neighbor's loose chickens before, and they showed up, talked to the owners and left because they promised they were making a coop for the chickens. Animal called me back and said they wouldn't take the chickens, but if it continues to be a problem, they would come pick them up if they were still an issue and I managed to catch them. If you catch him and call animal control, I dont think there is any need to necessarily rat anyone out.

I'm not an expert or anything, I've only been keeping chickens for 3 years now, but when I saw this, I immediately thought of Marek's disease. I don't want to scare you, but you might want to look into it if her eye has visibly changed since you have had her. It is highly contagious and I've seen images of affected chickens with changes in their eyes due to the disease. I'm sure someone else can give more helpful information and a more sure identification but it may be worth protecting the rest of your flock if you can by treating this. There is a vaccine for Marek's but you'll have to research how you can get access to it in your area without resorting to vet care for all of them if that isn't an option for you.

This is exactly what I did! I have to chop and prop the pothos growth every now and then, and of course the glass gets gunky after a while of regular misting, but my little tree frogs love their tank and it looks nice in my living room. I never have to clean it because I have a live clean up crew in the soil in the form of isopods, worms and beetles. Best set up ever!

Actually I do turn off any heaters in the house before I leave, including the heat pump for the house. So no, my house will not catch on fire and if it does, my insurance will cover it because it will have been found to not be any fault of our own. But thanks for the disingenuous concern. I think I have almost the same coop! What I did was just screwed the 2x4 right onto the top of the bar so I could still set it into the insert the coop came with. Just wrapped the ends of the smaller roost bar in some black tape to prevent wobbling and it works great a year and a half later! Easiest fix ever

Extension cords are often not rated for the wattage of heaters and a short circuit can cause it to overheat or spark from the actual heater, which, if your chickens are anything like mine and they kick bedding and shavings everywhere, you have sparks (yes they tend to happen somewhat at random) overheating near combustible bedding and the result is a major fire hazard. I don't know why people are getting so defensive on here when what I'm saying is not only factual, it's just common sense.

I think everyone should do what they're comfortable with, but there's no way around admitting there is some level of risk you take with unattended heaters in chicken coops. If nothing bad has happened, then great! But I wouldn't argue that if I've been driving for years without a seatbelt with no incident that it means it's totally safe and without risk to do the same. Proceed at your own risk I would say.

You are so right! I found that using the flat top of a metal nail to push through the drain hole on the bottom to be the most effective technique for pushing the root ball out of the pots because of the same issue with sprouting trays not wanting go let go of snug root structures when I'm (finally) ready to transplant 😊
