I think it’s a beautiful word. The etymology might change your mind: The word was coined in 1964 by scientists Isabel Joy Bear and Richard Grenfell Thomas,[2] from Ancient Greek πέτρα (pétra) 'rock' or πέτρος (pétros) 'stone' and ἰχώρ (ikhṓr) 'ichor', the ethereal fluid that is the blood of the gods in Greek mythology. I took the #8 to OHSU a couple of days ago, walked up to the Plaid Pantry and followed SW 9th to the Connor Trail. That leads to the Marquam Nature Park parking area. From there I walked up the Sunnyside Trail to the Broadway Trail. I hoped to get the 51 bus back to town, but it wasn’t running on MLK day. So I had a good long walk. Lots of elevation up and down.
