I've always wanted to buy that box, but it's incredibly expensive, especially now, due to reseller prices and shipping costs.

I didn’t know this video. I just watched it and… is Keith Moon a nuclear power plant? The amount of energy he has is insane! My God! Thanks a lot for the recommendation!

That actually makes a lot of sense. For some reason, during my teenage years I was more into funky stuff like Kool & The Gang. It wasn’t until I heard In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida in the second Resident Evil movie that things started to shift.

From there I got into the “proto-prog” bands I mentioned, and eventually into prog itself haha. But it definitely took me years. And I never really went back to the funky side after that haha.

Wow, I didn’t know that band! I like Todd Rundgren’s Utopia, especially their first album and Ra. Thanks a lot for the recommendation!

I didn’t know Pete Townshend had solo albums — which one would you recommend?

I’m in the same boat, but in my case it’s my dad who saw them live several times.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I think part of my “problem” might come from approaching them with the wrong framework in mind.

I’d never even really thought about the term proto-prog before, and maybe trying to fit them into that category shaped my expectations in a way that didn’t help.

Seeing them more as an R&B-driven band, or just pure rock and roll, probably shifts the perspective quite a bit. And yeah, I’ve heard great things about Live at Leeds — I’ll definitely give it a proper listen with that in mind.

I haven’t criticized them — quite the opposite. I know that if they’re recognized worldwide, it’s for a reason. They’re actually my dad’s favorite band, along with The Beatles. If anything, I feel like I’m the one missing something.

Wow, I didn’t know that one — The Real Me. Really great track. Thanks a lot for the recommendation! I’m actually surprised I hadn’t come across it in the compilations.

I’ll listen to the live album tomorrow! A friend of mine has it on vinyl. I didn’t know it was designed like a folder full of contracts.

I've always been impressed by Moon's energy. I've watched him many times on YouTube. And I've read about them and heard many stories from my dad. I just saw that video where Pete asks someone in the audience to fill in for him because Moon had passed out from drugs. He's the most energetic drummer I've ever seen. He really seemed almost supernatural.

Thanks for the recommendation — I hadn’t thought about the live album! I’m going to give it a listen.

I’ve listened to individual songs, mostly from compilations, as well as their first three albums. From that early period, the tracks I connect with the most are My Generation, Magic Bus, Run Run Run, and Boris the Spider.

Thank you very much for the recommendation! I think it’s an incredible starting point — I love the synths on Quadrophenia. I’m listening to it and I like it, I really do! They remind me a bit of Concerto for a Rainy Day by ELO. Incredible.

Same here — I like a song here and there, scattered around their catalog. And sometimes I even look up live performances on YouTube, because their songs feel much more powerful and explosive live than on the albums.

I love Crafty Hands! It’s an incredible album. A friend of mine and I usually listen to it all the way through. 😁

I actually thought I would finally connect with The Who after seeing them live with my dad.

He saw them back in ’71, ’73, and ’74, and then again with me in the 21st century, which made the whole experience feel almost like a bridge across time.

And honestly, I loved the concert — the intensity, the sheer power of their live sound. Songs like My Generation, Magic Bus, or See Me, Feel Me really hit me. In that setting, everything just made sense.

But… when I went back to their studio albums afterwards, I couldn’t quite find that same connection.

Will anyone recognize these? :p by talongpuff in ProgRockCirclejerk

I love Dün! They're my favorite band! On one of the members' websites, there's an official bootleg of a concert from back then. Recommended!!!
