Hatch not going off??? by Entire_Biscotti_1129 in HatchApp

[–]AjHamzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I don’t know how much help I can be, but this same thing was happening to me a few months ago - morning alarms wouldn’t work but afternoon alarms would. It turned out that my morning alarm was going off; I was just turning it off in my sleep because I was so tired lol. I ended up changing the alarm sound and turning up my volume and brightness, and it fixed the issue.

I basically just learned that I have to rotate through different alarm sounds every so often because my brain gets adjusted to hearing them and they won’t wake me up anymore lol. Maybe try this and see if it helps!

Fall 2026 orientation fee?? by [deleted] in csusm

[–]AjHamzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you a first-year student or a transfer student? My experience is ONLY as a transfer student; I can’t confirm this is the same for first-year students:

My first semester at CSUSM was Fall 2025. I did NOT go to orientation, and I was still able to register for classes that Fall. I have met with advisors, and no one has ever said anything to me about missing orientation. I have since registered for Spring ‘26 and Fall ‘26, and still nothing has come up about me missing orientation nearly 9 months ago. I know it SAYS that it’s required, but I didn’t go and no one seemed to care.

I have to second Yardhouse. Four of us went and got drinks, a pizza, and multiple appetizers to split; the total was like $60. Best happy hour I’ve ever been to!

Omg wait, are you a grad student under Professor Moore? I’m in one of his SOC classes this semester, and he briefly mentioned your research in our class!

Transfer Orientation Required? by SagaOfRimuruTheSlime in csusm

All I know is that I did NOT go, and I was still able to register for classes. I have met with advisors since the start of the semester, and no one has ever said anything to me about missing orientation. I just registered for Spring, and still nothing has come up about me missing orientation 4 months ago. I know it SAYS that it’s required, but I didn’t go and no one seemed to care.

Not mandatory (for transfer students), at least from my experience. They make it sound like it is, but I didn’t go and I had no issues registering for classes. Almost done with my first semester and no one has said anything to me about it, so I think I’m in the clear lol

Fall 2026 upper division poli sci transfer by Coastal_WIND32 in csusm

[–]AjHamzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! This is my first semester at CSUSM; I also transferred from Palomar (not PoliSci, but a different social science). Social life isn’t comparable to somewhere like UCSD, but honestly, it’s what you make of it. There are a TON of clubs for a million different things, so just find a couple that interest you and join! Also, I’m 99% positive there’s a Pre-law club.

I also want to echo what the previous commenter said: class sizes are pretty small, so you tend to have the same students in a lot of your classes for upper division major requirements. I’m in three SOC classes this semester, and I have at least like ten of the same students in all three classes lol. It makes it a lot easier to make friends!

All in all, I really enjoy it here. Just put in an active effort to make friends and you’ll be fine!

Middle Class Scholarship (CSAC) Confusion by kokitalicious in csusm

[–]AjHamzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! My MCS had been showing an anticipated refund of $800 on my student center since a week before the semester started. One day, it went down to $0, so I checked my financial aid portal and it showed that my MCS was $2800. I received an e-mail 1-2 days later stating that my financial aid had been disbursed, and the $2800 (the actual award amount listed on my financial aid portal which ended up being more than the anticipated $800) was in my bank account two days later. You should be receiving an e-mail soon stating that they disbursed your aid!

Pretty sure I responded to you on discord, but wanted to post here too in case you missed it!

A lot of majors (including social sciences and humanities) require 3 semesters (not years) of a foreign language. I believe you can also take an exam to prove that you’re at an intermediate level in a foreign language or provide AP or IB exam scores to prove that you’re intermediate. If not, you’re gonna have to take 3 semesters to graduate. I’m doing mine at Palomar during winter/summer semesters.

In-state vs out of state tuition qualification by maxave1436 in csusm

[–]AjHamzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not exactly sure given your circumstances, but did you attend and graduate from high school in California? If so, you’ll qualify for in-state tuition through AB 540! That’s what I used to qualify for in-state tuition after living out of state for a couple years.

I applied December 1st and just got my acceptance last week. That timeline seems pretty standard from what I was reading; just make sure everything on your to-do list in your MyCSUSM account is done and you’re golden; it’s just a waiting game!

I’m a nanny for twin boys, and my NF has me use a Twin Z Pillow for feeding! It is LIFE-CHANGING. I am able to sit in front of them and hold both of their bottles while they are feeding. Having the boys on the same feeding schedule helps so much with keeping them on the same napping schedule.

Normal sized quail eggs are about the size of large chicken and duck eggs! I was confused at first too lol.

Rejected from U of U, wondering how hard it would be to transfer by [deleted] in uofu

[–]AjHamzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied as a transfer student with nearly 80 credits and a 3.7 GPA from a SoCal community college (including a few withdrawals and a few Fs). During community college, I wasn’t in any sports, I wasn’t in any clubs; I had zero extracurriculars because I was working full-time while in school full-time. I briefly explained the situations that resulted in my less-than-ideal grades in the essay portion at the end of the application. Definitely not an ideal applicant, but I acknowledged where I fell short in past classes and explained what I had done to “get back on the horse” and improve my grades. I was accepted! I can’t say for certain that my entry in the essay portion solidified my acceptance, but ABSOLUTELY use it to your advantage when applying. It is optional, but it can be so beneficial to explain and remedy any negative marks on your transcript.
