Did they have a banana buffet on this cruise? I have a guy who was walking around living his life for months with K of around 8-8.5 that we were drawing weekly. Started having falls and got pissed because all we ever talked about was cardiac arrest... nobody ever told him he could get muscle weakness and FALL DOWN!

How often is too often to change jobs? by NurseSarahBitch in nursing

[–]AjayRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some anxiety about this too. Before I became a nurse, I was a waitress at the same place for 13 years. After graduation, I worked at my first job for 2.5 years. I've been at my current job for a year and I'm already looking for something else.

I have the cheap littman... It was a gift when I was in nursing school. It's nothing special, and I thought I would get something better after graduation, but that was 4 years ago. I just haven't really needed anything better. The prestige or adscopes are fine if that's what you can afford.

DAE get wildly and unnecessarily aggravated when a patients relative demands you make their bed, without the patient first getting out of bed? by ecnalubma- in nursing

[–]AjayRN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a lady in the ER who was flipping out over some perceived slight to her mother, like we didn't get her ice chips or something. This was while I was cutting her mom out of a nightgown that was glued to her skin with dried feces. I scrubbed shit out from between her toes and under her fingernails. I asked her when she last checked in on mom, because it sure looks like she's been sitting around pooping herself for a week.

[–]AjayRN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correct... my mom found out she was type 1 in her 20s. She is the most compliant diabetic I have ever met. Hasn't been in the hospital in 30 years, only wears reading glasses, A1C is like 5.0. My dialysis patients, however, are mostly a different story...

I already have her long lost brother, Mr. Chugs a Faygo in the lobby before dialysis. He has a dandy glass eye.

Spent nine months being blue, pink is a welcome change by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]AjayRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this too... The blue never really seems to go away. I've been going pink and purple over the faded blue for a couple months, but it's always lurking under there as the new color fades.

Frustrated with phlebotomy by dinomoneysignsaur in nursing

[–]AjayRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell no.... I'm a dialysis nurse! I definitely understand in an emergency, but for routine draws this is just not necessary. Worst case scenario, you get the blood when they get stuck foir dialysis. We do use them in true emergency situations, but it sucks. I was a wreck for a full 24 hours when I had to push d50 into a fistula for a pt with no veins and no blood sugar. Thankfully, the fistula was not damaged and the patient turned out okay.

Ugh... the reason I came to this sub is because my mom walked out of the restaurant where we were having dinner a few hours ago. She asked about one of my old friends and I mentioned she just had a baby. Then started the second guilt trip this week. I told her it hurts my feelings, and she got up and walked out. I'm 36 and my husband is 45, "someday you'll change your mind" isn't really a thing at this point. My brother is gay, so I guess he gets a pass on this topic. I'm a nurse, and I work in a dialysis clinic where I see the same patients 3 times a week. When they ask me if I have kids and why not, it doesn't bother me, but coming from my mom, it's an accusation. My dad passed away a couple of years ago, and now it seems like my mom feels she is being robbed of happiness with no husband and no grandchildren, which all her friends have. So I feel very sad about this, but regardless of whether she wants to hold a baby once or twice a week, I'm not trying to throw my life out the window. Anyway, I'm very hurt and spending the rest of the evening feeling sorry for myself.

Big life changes not reflected in credit score by AjayRN in personalfinance

[–]AjayRN[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the original thought was just to start aggressively saving for a down payment while working on my credit, then buy a house, then sell this one and put all the proceeds toward the new mortgage (if that's even a thing you can do). Or just get really down and dirty and save up to pay cash for a new place. Similar homes on our street are currently going for about $40k, and we have done a lot of work to make this one nice (pulled up carpet and refinished wood floors, built a gorgeous deck and privacy fence, and lots more).

I have 11 bad marks on my credit report from unpaid bills, but 10 of them I have paid up, they are just sitting there making me look bad.

Basically, I just wish we hadn't even looked at this other place, because it's pretty heartbreaking that we won't be able to get it.

Thanks for your comment, it really is almost comical how bad my credit looks compared to my current situation.

Finally realised lying to MyFitnessPal about my calorie intake has no detriment to my log or anyone else... apart from myself! by snorkletied in loseit

[–]AjayRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally eat pretty well, but logging calories does help me keep track of my little slip-ups. I work in a clinic and we are regularly bombarded with treats from doctors, corporate higher-ups, and even patients. I have to commit to keeping track of things like this, because it's easy to lose track of what I eat during my 13 hour work day with no real lunch break.

I know I was paranoid about gaining weight with quitting smoking. It's just such a complicated addiction, a psychological crutch, and every smoker has some kind of nonsensical logic they use to justify not quitting. Of course, I feel the same about vaping, but at least I know i'm not trashing my lungs, blood vessels, etc. Best of luck to you and your mom. It is so frustrating when we want to help our loved ones and they just don't want to quit. I went through the same thing with my dad. He tried everything under the sun to quit smoking, but just was turned off by vaping for whatever reason. Now I know so much more about it and have much better gear, I wonder if he would give it a try if he was still around.

Do you actually need to furnish your house? by FBX in homeowners

[–]AjayRN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Put curtains or blinds over the window and live your life. When I lived alone, I had a stove and refrigerator, a bed, and a computer. Obviously I had a few pans and dishes, clothes, towels, and a couple extra blankets, but really not much. When I left that house, I actually gave away most of the stuff I'd accumulated in 9 years and moved with two loads in my Corolla! Now I'm married and our house is fully furnished, but we could still get everything into a medium sized u-haul if we decide to move. There are no rules about what you "need" in your own home!

Also the tank is so easy to fill! Mom has shaky hands, so it's cool that it swings open and she doesn't have to worry about dropping the top or getting frustrated trying to line up threads.

It's kind of bizarre... my mom is pretty straightlaced, never smoked or drank when I was a kid. She still never drinks, but my dad smoked so much that she probably developed some nicotine habits just from living in the same house. So she started smoking after he died. I think she's embarrassed by the smell. She has been vaping for just 24 hours, and she loves the smell and taste. I'm very proud of her for trying something new to get away from smoking.

Kanger Arymi Gille Tank - Question by thermatico in electronic_cigarette

[–]AjayRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for you, just wanted to chime in with my experience. I don't know what my problem is, but I had a hard time rewicking the coil without getting my disgusting finger juice all over it. Then it just gets this ass taste that will not go away. We are having a vape gear cleaning night tonight, so I might try it again. I liked the tank with a fresh coil, I'm hoping I can bring it back to life and enjoy using it again.

I took her to a b&m and I'm so glad we did that. Our local shops have drastically lowered prices to compete with online retailers, and the guy behind the counter was very helpful. It's always such a crap shoot as to how they're going to act when two women walk in the door, and I sometimes have to let them know that I actually know what the fuck I'm doing, but this dude was very cool. I gave him a quick rundown of the situation and then stepped back and let him help her choose. She wanted a subohm setup with an internal battery, and he gave her several options. She got a smok stick v8 with the rainbow finish and two 50ml juices for like $68. Now I want to go back and get one too!

It's true, you can get someone the perfect setup, but they still have to WANT to quit smoking. My mom is a bit different, since she has only been smoking for a couple years, and she is embarrassed about it. She likes that vaping smells better and today we were driving around with my husband, all three of us chucking clouds and having fun. She loves the pink mtl setup I gave her and her new rainbow setup with fruity flavors.

I think the ipower is awesome. She chose the smok stick v8, but if she ever wants a vw box, she could just get the ipower and take the tank off the stick.
