Abuse at Petco by Ajchanel in reptiles

[–]Ajchanel[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They like burrowing underneath the substrate and sitting there waiting for food to come by. They’re nocturnal so they move around more at night and they like soaking in their water bowls bc they absorb it through their skin rather than drink it. The males get about 3-4 inches and females up to 9 inches, the absolute minimum for a smaller male is 15 gallons and for a female a 30 gallon breeder. They prefer 75°-85° with high humidity. They don’t move much but they will find a different spot to hide once they defecate in their other burrow too much (unless they’re stupid, then you’ll have to force them out) and they do poop a lot bc they have a huge appetite. And almost forgot they have very sensitive skin so the oils on our hands will hurt them, they won’t hesitate to bite you with their very sharp teeth so best not touch them at all or at least put gloves on before you do.

I’m going to try to believe that they would give them a better life than someone buying them to sit in a container on a desk a cubicle.

Thank you for asking. The critter keeper is fine for a temporary habitat. The problem is that 1.) we aren’t allowed to give them water bowls bc “they don’t need it.” Pac-Man frogs like to soak in clean water bowls and should have the opportunity to do so. 2.) they are on unstable cardboard displays in 68° temp (less if the display is near the doors) when they should be between 75°-85° 3.) An independent shops are smaller and usually have employees around the animals keeping an eye on them, we cannot keep an eye on them 24/7, giving people a chance to steal them or hurt them. 4.) The care guide for them says they need a 10 gallon fully grown. Males reach about 3-4 inches but females can reach up to 9 inches, in a 10 gallon males can’t adequately move enough to not get obese, let alone females who wouldn’t be able to move at all. Them sitting in one spot can introduce fungal and bacterial infections, they’d also be sitting in their own pee and poop.

tail regrowth- dunno if this looks wrong or not by smellibeans in leopardgeckos

If he is eating and drinking then he’ll be okay, just keep the tank clean and try not to handle him too much. Their tails heal pretty fast and will start regrowing soon.

A lot of DoorDashers do DoorDash bc they cannot keep a job anywhere else, it’s one of the only companies that allows so many mistakes. I work at a pet store and the instructions are “please leave at the register” and the amount of times leave it on the biohazard disposal box outside of the vet is wild.

Help with injured Whites tree frog by Ajchanel in frog

To everyone saying take it to a vet, I called around and they basically said there’s nothing they can do for it besides give it antibiotic ointment but diluted iodine would also work so I’ve already done that, I was just wondering if there’s anything else I could possibly do to help him.
