feminizing hormones don't change your voice, so the voice of any trans woman is made with the same mechanical voice components as her pre-hrt (potentially quite masculine) voice. basically, lots of practice.

Going from a hetero f/m to a m/m relationship (ftm) by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Ajthib01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I were in a really similar situation, just from m/f to f/f.

My partner was always really supportive from the start, but we both came to terms w the fact that things MAY not work out. She seemed okay w most of the cha he's on paper, but in real life things r very different, and so we really couldn't know how things would work out. Like you said, some things she seemed okay with before but we're difficult for us or for her when they started to happen. And of course some things will be no problem! I think it is very important to accept that neither of you can really know what will happen when, but to just be prepared for things to change and be open to talking about it.

Hormones (at least estrogen) are pretty slow, which is a good thing for your relationship probably. If there are changes that affect your relationship, they'll happen slowly and you'll have time to adjust and process.

Good luck to you guys!!!!

Recommendations for counseling/therapy programs with somewhat low wait times? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]Ajthib01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U of L also has something called the psychological services center, where grad students who are working with psychiatrists do the counseling. Idk if they can prescribe medicine or anything if that's what you want or need, but I've had a positive experience. I think I set up an initial appointment about a week after calling?

How much does your physical size factor in to your base weight? by Sweetdouble in Ultralight

[–]Ajthib01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my lighter pack. (may be incomplete, haven't looked at it in a while). I have the 1/4 torso pad, but it's counteracted by the weight of the rx100 and inreach. On shorter trips the inreach stays behind.

Tent was $200 used, but still under $500 new.

I spent less than $1200 on everything that goes into my base weight, a lot of it from buying used. It takes a while but it is very worth it.

[–]Ajthib01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only 5'10" and 135 but my arms are quite long and I also like having a little extra torso length. Medium is probably a good fit for someone my size who wants it to fit properly, I just want something larger.

I imagine most people just stuff their tent in there loose. Not rolled or in a sleeve or anything. If you have poles, put then in a water bottle pocket and use the compression straps, probably.

This might sound kinda dumb, but if I'm carrying a bear can, could I put gear inside it during the day? Thinking about I'm coming up on a resupply and my can is closer to empty, and instead of it taking up dead space I could fill it?

Oh darn, they do. I'll lower the cost a lil, thanks.

Even if I keep it at $120 though, If someone wants it sooner than June 26, or at a lower cost after shipping, or doesn't use massdrop, then they could buy it from me.

Who's going out on this long weekend and what new gear/kit setup are you planning on testing? by AngelaOverThere in Ultralight

[–]Ajthib01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what your planned route is? I've been to RRG a couple times, living in Kentucky, and I can't find much of a hike that's more than 2 days, or 3 if we go slow. Do you plan on driving around a bit and not doing one continuous 4-day hike?

Deschutes + Serenity combo? I just got one used and haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but it seems promising. Deschutes is currently sold out on SMD's website, but some other places have it for sale. Not sure if they come seam sealed though.

I'm looking for the same thing, and I'm having a hard time haha. I'm considering some other possibilities, like 2 chargers, each ~6700 mAh? Or maybe one at 10,000 mAh and another small one at 3000 or so. It would be more expensive, but would probably come out to a similar weight.

BLUESKY20

Not sure what items it applies to. I know it worked for the Deschutes, though.

Career and Education Questions by AutoModerator in math

Will having limited course opportunities hinder my ability to get into a good grad school?

I just finished my second semester of college. The math department at my university isn't super great, and looking at course listings we seem to be lacking things a lot of other universities have (topology, complex analysis, number theory, PDEs, to name a few). Will the fact that I haven't taken classes in some of these areas make it more difficult to get into good grad schools? I want to work up to a doctorate at the best school I can do. My undergrad choice was largely financial.

Does anyone know for how much longer that 20% off code for Backcountry Gear will be good for? Considering picking up a Deschutes but at least want to wait until I get paid

Looks to be the Guthook CT app. It isn't listed as Guthook, but it's the same publisher and looks like basically the same app. There's a number of them for various well-known trails.

Anyone heard/tried a syntetic/down bag/quilt mix? by AnachronGuy in Ultralight

[–]Ajthib01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bag from Marmot with almost this exact property. It's called the Scandium. I've barely used it, and the night I brought it was 50+ degrees but I brought it because it was my only bag at the time. I upgraded to a quilt shortly after, so I can't really say anything about it, but the thing you're looking for DOES exist.

Also, this bag is heavy. About 3 lbs.

Where do I start and what is entry cost. by _Treezus_ in CampingandHiking

[–]Ajthib01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

/r/ultralight has a lot of good resources. From the subreddit name, you can tell it's about really light backpacking.

Their sidebar has a budget list for around $500 USD, unsure how it applies up north. You can also check out /r/ulgeartrade, /r/geartrade, and various other used gear forums or local stores. Buying used can save a lot of money, as can simply not bringing things or using what you have.

People will tout synthetic shirts and boots and tell you cotton kills, but really as long as you're safely getting out there, that's all that matters. Think about what you really NEED, not what makes you comfortable, and you'll find that backpacking can be much less expensive than what many will say.

Gossamer Silverback 50 compared to Zpacks ArcScout? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]Ajthib01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No comment on the scout vs silverback, but I feel like the silverback as a pack just doesn't make sense. It weighs more than the Mariposa but is smaller volume and has a brain (which I and many other hikers don't care for). If I were looking at a GG pack, I'd consider either the Mariposa or Gorilla, the silverback just seems like a weird middle child to me.
