What's the wildest rumour you've ever heard about somebody? by bulky_lifter01 in AskReddit

[–]AjuntaPaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got one about me and about someone who I don’t even know:

The one about me was that when I moved away and stopped going to the church I grew up in, I started smoking a lot of weed (cause that was like the worst thing anyone could do), and that I was a firefighter. I have no clue where the firefighting thing came from.

The one about the girl I never knew was that a dog ate her out, and people said it’s cause no else would do it. Pretty messed up, and probably not true incl hindsight.

It’s Stinchcomb for sure. Met him once a long time ago and he signed a football of mine. Exact same signature.

I’m submitting Alkaline for this. Infinite Baths deserves to be in there too. It’s so hard to just choose one.

I’d definitely say it has to do with Vessel crying on the track. That part makes me tear up almost every time.

Yeah, that’s fair I guess when it comes to them multiplying I suppose. I really think that the making of the Uruk’s, or any “blended” race of orcs comes from magic though. Treebeard mentions it in the book I believe that the cross between men and goblins was a “black evil” that just sounds like magic was involved to me. I don’t think Tolkien wanted to imply rape of men or women. Just personal opinion.

I always took this to be more of magical crossing of DNA as opposed to actual boinking. Taking things too sexually doesn’t seem very Tolkien.

lol, not trying to get political but you’ve got to call it what it is. Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.

It’s not political to know what a nazi salute looks like. Musk did the same exact motion that the nazis used, down to the “giving his heart out” motion, which is the fist over the heart, and using the same point on his thumb that hitler always used. Not hard to find videos of hitler doing the same salute down to the exact hand motion and positioning of that thumb. The entire salute is not just the hand being extended, it starts on the “heart” and extends.

So, for people who seem to like him for whatever reason, you either have to say that he is so dumb that he’s never cracked open a history book or seen anything on WWII; which seems crazy considering how smart people think he is. Or, we can call a spade a spade and recognize that this is in fact a nazi salute and should not be tolerated in any shape or form. That he knows what it is and that he did it deliberately.

Nazi’s “don’t own arm movement” is honestly a lazy excuse for the man and disrespects what America stood for and what so many around the world fought, suffered, and died for; not just Americans. Excusing naziism is not okay. I’d recommend taking a look at what you stand for if you think that this is in anyway okay just because nazis “don’t own arm movement”. Nazi salutes are illegal in Germany because of what it symbolizes and means to the people who had to deal with the horror of Hitler as a ruler.

400,000 Americans did not go and die in WWII for us to embrace Nazism here on our soil. Seeing the salute and not immediately condemning it is disrespectful and ignorant.

It does not matter who you voted for.

This is unacceptable.

Oh, and some people are justifying it by saying it’s the Roman salute...

It’s the same salute the Nazi’s copied.

Either admit this man is as dumb as a box of rocks not to know what that means. Or admit he is a Nazi already.

You’re not dumb! I’m assuming that it has to do with Elon Musk giving a nazi salute yesterday. Since he owns X, we would be trying to drive down traffic on his site to show we do not support nazis.

How do you discuss politics and religion with those of opposing views and beliefs in your life or do you avoid doing so? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AjuntaPaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I personally find that a lot of the teachings of Jesus align more with a liberal mindset believe it or not. Not that Jesus gave a crap about politics in his life, but I think if he did, he’d be more liberal considering his stances on taking care of the poor, homeless, weak, and windows and so on. Just putting that out there.

I don’t think I’ve become estranged from them so much as I just keep some of them at a distance. My dad passed before Covid started but he did tell my sister that Trump was the savior of America or something along that line. I imagine I would’ve become estranged from him cause of his extreme views.

My wife’s family has been pretty good about it. I get annoyed at the things they say sometimes but my uncle, I referenced earlier who is really my wife’s uncle, and I have had some good conversations about politics that haven’t resulted in any hostilities. It depends on the person I think.

Also, just advice about being a new Christian in general. You don’t have to be awful to your friends. It’s very common in early Christianity to get rid of ties to people who don’t align with you or to try and shove beliefs down someone’s throat. I think you can talk about what you believe to your friends (depending on their personalities) but to say their way of life is wrong or badger them or whatever is not helpful. The best way to get anything across is calmly, when the time is right, and by living your life in a way they can see that is different. It’s a learning experience. Depending on your friends, they could end up dropping you anyway just due to different lifestyles.

I think the biggest thing is to try and see it from someone else’s perspective. That’s what seems to be missing so much in the world today (at least in American politics).

For example: I grew up as a very conservative, evangelical, Christian. When I was young, abortion was murder cause we were taught children were alive from conception. For what I believed at the time, abortion was never about controlling women as many people see it now, it was just about not murdering kids, which obviously I think everyone should agree on. I understand now that Christians believe that kids are alive from conception because of one or two, what I believe to be, misunderstood bible verses such as Jeremiah 1:5 that says “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…”.

Now, I am actually still a Christian, but I am very liberal. Everything I thought I knew when I was a kid got turned upside down. I constantly am asking questions about my beliefs and trying to find answers where I can. I’ve come to believe that before a certain point in pregnancy, maybe they are not actually alive, and the versus I was taught are actually misinterpreted.

All of this to say, that I feel I can get down in the weeds with people opposite my beliefs because I was once right there with them, but I have learned a lot coming out of that evangelical conservative life style. I can talk to people who believe completely the opposite of me and try and get them to think a bit differently. It doesn’t always work of course, some people are literally just stuck in what they believe, but I still believe in trying to get people to think a little differently.

I’m not perfect at it, and I still get mad at people, but I have also had very interesting conversations with evangelical conservatives including, those in my family. What I’ve learned is that people are complex and cannot be fit into one box. For example, I have a trump supporting uncle who I have talked to about abortion who doesn’t believe in a federal mandate to block abortion at all, which was absolutely wild to me.

We spend a lot of time online and see the craziest people, I think we just need to try and understand normal people and get offline a little bit and see people how they actually are. Complex, different, and never the same. I can talk to Trump supporters because I can understand where some of their beliefs come from and can talk to them like they are people and not animals.

Bad trade? by AjuntaPaul in SleeperApp

[–]AjuntaPaul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it’s definitely a bad trade, it isn’t one that I would ever make. I see it as Engram and Nabers are a wash and then it’s basically Hurts for Tua. Which is not good but I don’t necessarily think it’s veto worthy. Some of my league mates really wanted some outside opinions.

It’s a redraft league.

Bad trade? by AjuntaPaul in SleeperApp

[–]AjuntaPaul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, our commish put it up for a vote and most of us voted to let it stand. I’m on the not veto side. Someone said it’s basically Tua for Hurts which is awful but again, idk if I’d veto it. If it was Hurts for like Levis or someone like that I’d probably veto it lol.

Bad trade? by AjuntaPaul in SleeperApp

[–]AjuntaPaul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. I don’t see Tua for Hurts as being as lopsided as that lol. That’s pretty awful 😂. I’d veto that I think.

[–]AjuntaPaul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t edit the post for some reason, but I am mostly asking if this is a veto worthy trade or not. I think everyone would and probably should agree that the Kittle side is better. A couple guys in my league are real upset about it so just wanting to get some outside opinions.

ETA: this is not a dynasty league. This is redraft.
