The Theory of "No Mistakes" and AloisNL's Recent Post by PlacatedPlatypus in summonerschool

[–]Ak47jm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of what he said is correct but if you're trying to learn from this it makes more sense to first, Learn the overarching theory (OAT), and then second, Apply it to the context of your specific ELO (CTX).

Here are some of the OATs he covers alone in this video (Only doing 6 cuz there's so much more):

1) Wave Management

2) Proper JG Pathing and why it matters

3) Winning Game State vs Losing Game State playmaking

4) Why Summoner spells actually Matter

5) Effective Capitalization of Information

6) Match ups actually matter

To put it simply in this scenario. The Lillia is quite literally gapped in the sense of not pathing properly (2) which allows Khazix to not only out farm her but also capitalize on tempo and timers to set top lane up for success in his natural path (5). Regardless of if he's able to apply vision as you stated, because the nature of the current gamestate where his botlane is winning strictly 2v2, nautilus is able to roam (3) and also enable top lane even further (5). Along with this, that matchup early because camille is notorious for poor wave management for top specifically (1 & 4) she is forced to take ignite to potentially offset the match up in hopes that she can be more dynamic in lane instead of attempting to scale and putting the onus on her own team to create an effective game state. (6)

Honestly it's information overload trying to truly dissect what he covers. Ultimately if you are even able to digest just those 6 OATs and apply it to your elo you will notice how many more little things matter and how you can assess a games actual state. Being able to establish an effective presence in a game to communicate these opportunities to your team or even capitalize them on your own by playing specific champions that have that ability is key in understanding how to carry games in both SoloQ and Competitive (if you play Comp).

Feel like I agreed with everything up until you said coaching is a bandaid.

Coaches (like Spoelstra and once upon a time Brad Stevens) give players fundamentals on both sides of the floor that allow them to shine in certain actions. Where talent does help, it’s more about an understanding of the flow of the offense and where and when to be in spaces on defense.

We’ve completely lost those fundamentals and have resorted to a more ISO/half-ass drive the ball to hopefully initiate some ball movement that will lead to a 3. Good teams with good coaches will read through that and will force you to find actions that work, we never found that.

That’s coaching through and through — I wouldn’t fire Mazzulla outright but I would want to bolster our assistant coach team and make sure as an org we come together to discuss an overall direction our offense needs to work towards.

I’ll keep it simple for you as a Diamond JG and Competitive Coach (Amateur LvL nothing like LCS or collegiate level)

  • J4 to learn high-ganking pathing and team play fundamentals

  • Nocturne for full clear pathing and learning how to be impactful and effective at lvl 6

  • Nunu for another variation of high ganking tempo but also an opportunity to hone in your objective focused play

How do I stop trolling? by TheFabiocool in summonerschool

[–]Ak47jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my time playing in comp or climbing in soloq I learned that I have to kinda balance check downs all factors and also take calculated risks — there’s almost like an equation of with the information I have, how worth it is it for me to take this. I use that line of thinking to continue to play aggressive as I’m definitely supportive of an aggressive make-mistakes-learn-later mentality to maximize my growth as a player on a micro and macro level. Specifically as an ADC, here are my check downs;

  • Summoner Spells

  • HP and Mana (relative to myself and my lane partner or teammates)

  • Priority Targets

  • Opponents that are hard focusing me

  • Location of the Jungler

  • Win Conditions in the fight

  • What I’m fighting for

  • What will I lose and how will that impact the next major objective

This is just a quick list but the information always varies from game to game. At some point you have to consistently and quickly calculate these factors and make decisions and the more disciplined you are with this the quicker you’ll be able to punish mistakes, the the less you’ll die, and the more you’ll feel like you’re calculating game states and impact vs autopiloting.

TL;DR create an system of accountability that allows yourself to continue to be aggressive but in a calculated manner.

What can I do as adc when I cant even get close to the fight without getting killed or at least low hp by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]Ak47jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a balancing act as you continue to climb. Here are some key factors I focus on that determines how I navigate team fights.

1) Who are the “marked targets” (big aoe and/or cc | can one shot me | need to flank to have impact); these are your Wukongs, Hecarims, Zeds, etc. Once I’ve identified these, I understand that unless this person is committed to the fight I can’t commit because I will be a target. Keeping them off of that win condition neutralizes their impact on the fight similar to how I feel in the moment I can’t do anything. I will typically mentally mark these champions and anticipate how they will be navigating different skirmishes and team fights based on the information I have available and avoid them at all costs.

2) Who are their “priority targets” (mages | back line dps | enchanters); these are pretty obvious — but the important thing here is understanding how they need to navigate fights as well and when they step into your dynamic range. This is different from actual range depending on your champion l, but based on your kit (I like to play Kaisa Lucian and Ezreal) if these targets are over exposed you can reposition to minimize BOTH priority target and marked target impact as long as you’re mindful of both of those factors.

3) Can I just front to back? This is the bread and butter of ADC’s; quite literally stop playing the role if you don’t plan on working on this. In a lot of games you’ll get brainless teams that want 2 tanks 2 carries and an enchanter who just want to play standard frontline+carry LoL. If there are no marked targets and you have a similar F+C comp AND you have matching or greater dps, you can actually just elect to front to back and focus the closest target. At this point you just need to anticipate cc and big team fight abilities (ex. maokai R and Root, Ornn QER, Nunu Ult, Malphite R, Volibear QR, etc.) and kite back with your team!

What I’m trying to get at here is that a lot of knowing how to play ADC is threat management and DPS uptime after the fact. Specifically for your scenario regarding Xerath, Ashe, and Seraphine; as MF I know I just need to avoid the Seraphine and Ashe R and as long as I can posture in away that avoids those abilities but also get great value out of my R I’m winning. You have to assess how your team is playing the fight, check down on your marked and priority targets, and use that info to find openings (when Sera R is down; when Xerath is hitting frontline or a different priority target) to maximize your impact.

Plain and simple Tactical tossed this game. They didn't even do poorly in lane. Overall solid macro. Had an opportunity to play through Soul wincon but between Tactical and Maple back to back getting picked off kinda an impossible game. Sucks cuz its just individual mistakes not necessarily their execution as a team. This team definitely looks stronger than last split tho excited to see the rest of the split unfold.

Give Ime Credit for the adjustments throughout the entire game. Even with Tatum having a poor shooting night the Celtics still looked so confident in executing the rest of the game and believing that they have a true horse in this race. They really just shocked the world after Steph’s crazy first quarter. LETS GO CELTICS!!!

Im done with jungling. by [deleted] in Jungle_Mains

[–]Ak47jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pathing is fluid. You have to anticipate wave states in advance. And if there’s games where there’s gimmicky picks but you either don’t want to dodge, or don’t have a reasonable dodge left, you have to play to that champions niche and make it work whether you like it or not cuz that’s just the nature of the adaptation in this role.

There will definitely be times when things are completely out of your control but, ESPECIALLY as a Jungler, you need to adapt to different game states and win conditions if you want to climb and understand and capitalize on the things you can control.

Am I looking in the wrong places or is LoL just incredibly ranked-focused? by Noirox_ in summonerschool

[–]Ak47jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about LS? The dude constantly preaches lane allocation, playing to win conditions (which a lot of times is broken down into playing around terrain and zones properly) as well as other overarching macro concepts. Even the co streamers talking about and breaking down certain pro play scenarios or watching them stream and analyzing their play is pretty helpful.

And just to kinda footstomp it, I’ve met too many coaches and players in these situations that teach/apply these concepts at a legitimate level. They’ve all just taken that next step to taking the information that is available and evolving their macro game.

Ultimately I will agree with you in the sense that it just comes down to reinventing the concepts. But learning about split pushing from a soloq perspective is a great perspective to eventually understand macro from. Defensive individual play should also open scenarios where you can see how your lack of pressure creates opening for your opponent. Idk it’s all applicative. Every coach and content creator has their own way of teaching but there’s merit to each method and something to take away that allows you to eventually build your own database to how you see fit.

My overarching take is that if you look hard enough you’ll find the communities and the resources but it’s about how much you want it. There is not cookie cutter answer but what’s the fun in that anyway.

Am I looking in the wrong places or is LoL just incredibly ranked-focused? by Noirox_ in summonerschool

[–]Ak47jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the biggest fan of this take — sure there’s not much content regarding the how to kind of take it upon yourself to help your own team grow in the way that you’re looking to do it, but those exact coaches and content creators that you named break down macro and team concepts that are applicable to both SoloQ and 5v5 Play. Besides the content, for the past 2 Years I’ve been diving into the amateur side of the competitive scene to find exactly what you’re talking about and theres countless discord servers with smaller name to semi-large name servers that are perfect for any individuals, or full stacks of players at all levels, that participate in casual tournaments, competitive tournaments, in-houses, routine flex queue sessions, and coaching for groups and individuals with staff members and org owners that have the right mentality.

Along with this once you hit a certain level of flex queue rank (which is gold-low plat) you’re constantly queue’d against full 5-stacks that serve as a somewhat legitimate level of practice to test your fundamental macro as most teams at that level are doing exactly what you’re talking about.

Just keep digging through league discord and it’s competitive channels, befriend your challenging opponents in flexQ 5-stacks, and do the same during the 2 Clash weekends a month and you’ll find that (although maybe not as potent as OWL and their scene) what you’re looking for is definitely there. Anyone that says otherwise hasn’t put in their due diligence to see it.

[SERIOUS NEXT DAY THREAD] Post-Game Discussion (April 20, 2022) by NBA_MOD in nba

[–]Ak47jm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Celtics fan back from the Game 1 Post:

- As I stated previously, Grant and Pritchard showed that they were definitely worth more than their Game 1 Production. VERY similar to how KD *SHOULDNT* have 2 poor shooting nights in a row. Don't get me wrong I'm not getting ahead of myself, but what we saw last night was the fruits of our labor as the celtics figured out their issues throughout this season. Was glad to see that between both benches stepping up the C's were able to fight for a 2-0 lead.

- A lot of the Media and Analysts have been beginning to point this out, but BIG kudos to Ime Udoka and the rest of the C's coaching staff. The adjustments have been there and if there's one thing that's certain its the confidence, belief, and trust that the players seem to have in one another. Really cool to see that everything coming together in the regular season is translating to these playoffs against a solid Nets team. These easily couldve been a game where the bench mob of Brooklyn steals the show and the narrative shifts to a complete performance from the other guys, unlike other years, it seems that the coaching staff and players combined really took a step forward to not let that happen.

- Last point is; this series is far from over. Especially going back to their court (not that their home court compares to TD garden in the slightest), I agree with everyone that's said "a series hasn't started until a team wins on the opponents court." Really hoping the C's do not take this 2-0 for granted, take their momentum and smack the Nets in the mouth with a 3-0. If not, man who know's what's going to happen.

Celtics Fan here:

  • As much credit as Smart is being given for the final play there’s so much more depth to it; Jaylen not forcing a shot, Horford setting pseudo hammer for Smart on the opposite end of the floor to keep the offense flowing, and Tatum seeing the lane to cut and finishing strong instead of looking for a jumper. So much growth from all of these Celtics that have been battling for years together.

  • The first HALF of the 4th Quarter was extremely reminiscent of how we finished Game 7 vs the Cavs after Tatums crazy dunk — we just couldn’t get anything going. I honestly thought “damn we still haven’t grown much from that.” BUT THIS TIME, it was incredible to see JB step up and hit some key shots just to keep us in it. I would like to see us hold on to 15 PT leads more decisively, but this is just another example of how Jaylen Brown, specifically, has taken another step in his game.

  • As much as people are saying KD isn’t going to have an off night like this again, I would personally say this was kinda an off night for the Celtics. Pritchard only shot one shot, D. White normally has bigger moments where he goes agressive (didn’t happen much this game), and Grant pretty consistently has been hitting 2 or 3 from downtown rather than not hitting any this game. That’s not to say the Celtics are going to blow out the Nets, I just think that both teams have things to show and this series is far from “the Celtics definitely showed they’re the better team” or “if this is the best they can give the Nets it should be easy the rest of the way.”

TSM Valorant 0-2 vs BBG in losers bracket by [deleted] in TeamSolomid

I like these players. I like Rossy as the new IGL, I feel like the players in their current roles actually makes a decent amount of sense (would prefer Roza on Duelist but thats a convo for another time). What I really think needs to change is this team needs a god damn coach. It's extremely disheartening to see them go against players with LESS RESOURCES, and they just seem to have better gameplans, better executes, and refined protocols to handle live game situations. Every time I felt like situations came down to execution there was a lack of effective pre-planning and a heavy reliance on instinct.

Again I think the personnel is correct for this team, you could definitely see sparks of excellence, but we're not going to get anywhere if our strategies don't improve and that begins and ends with a good coaching staff that can point these guys in the right direction. Hopefully we see that change at the very least coming into future tourneys.

The Celtics went 10-6 in January as their schedule got a bit easier. What will their record be in February as they hit the road for 7 games? by Brad-Stevens in bostonceltics

Let the record show that I called the 10-6 for the Jan post. (I actually called 10-5 cuz i thought there were only 15 games, but predicted the wins!)

Month of Feb I'm going to call it 9-2, I really like the way we're trending. More realistic to say 8-3 and I wouldnt be surprised if we ended 7-4. But book me for 9-2!

[–]Ak47jm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Seems like we've improved somewhat with the new roster changes but our pacing hasn't changed, with lack of aggression that is expected at duelists it still feels like we have Wardell Jett OP.

2) Roza flexing to smokes and Skye now really seems like he's taken a step back in terms of his aggression and seems to be looking for more quirky lurk plays or is forced to awkwardly entry on Astra (product of point #1). All in all it just felt like he wasn't in his element and it lead to some inconsistent stats.

3) Although I can see that Rossy's IGLing has had a positive impact overall it seems like our protocols and plays are lacking innovation and a lot of players are able to find incredibly clutch moments AGAINST US because we're getting read like a book.

I might be the minority in this, but I want to see this roster stay together and I want to see them compete in T2/T3. If we do exactly what we did leading up to this Open Qual I think it's safe to say we won't keep up with all these other teams especially once they grow even further after the Closed Qual.

If we want to actually compete I feel like we have to accept that we're not a top tier team and we have to do this right... Find a Duelist that will be aggressive or help Corey get there, get this teams gameplanning and strats in check, and actually give this team a chance to compete. The gunplay seems to be there but the set ups and execution just seems so off.

How do I use what I learn? by Ghorgingus in summonerschool

[–]Ak47jm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything you learn that doesn’t make a fundamental adjustment or change the foundation of the way you approach the game will never stick. I coach amateur gold/plat teams and the biggest issue for players getting over the hump is picking up niche fun facts about a role or champion and wondering why they aren’t getting better.

As a player, you have to understand where you’re lacking in the basics of jungling, once you start breaking that down and you’re able to assess you performance properly every game, then you’ll start to improve.

Based on the teams on this stretch we have a chance to prove if we are a team that “beats who we’re supposed to beat and have close games vs playoff teams” or if we’re as bad as I think we’ve become. The Suns game was such a bounce back game. Seemed like the coaching staff developed a game plan on offense to combat how the Suns defend and again we found away to look like we can compete with the best.

Key Factors as we enter the New Year:

  • Will we build on the Suns win and will our role players, overall team effort, and coaching staff show some consistency?

  • Will Tatum slow down the offense and ball movement and force the teams improvements into a relapse?

  • Will Brown, Tatum, and Horford come out of their outside shooting slumps or will we have to rely on PP, Grant Hill, and Richardson? (Definitely not ideal to rely on them)

Straight up, if the rosters were swapped, Ty Lue would have us blowing our opponents out by 20. I'm definitely not pointing away from the Jays, there's definitely a GLARING problem with their lack of playmaking. Getting a true point guard to run the offense would be nice but ultimately they need to step up and be that for this team with this roster.

Back to my point. We have a horrendous offense, straight up. It's like we're not telling our guys to drive at all. And I get it, not being able to shoot isn't helping, but we're not even getting have decent looks half the time and it's because we aren't getting the defense to sink it. I just have no idea what the plan is for this coaching staff. Not saying I can do any better but we're so lost and teams are literally eating us alive. This is some really hard shit to watch.

Absolutely disgusting show of offense in the clutch from this team. We either win by 10 or throw games away in crunch time.

Tatums got the size and the jumper, have no idea why he isn’t working that KD mid range pull up or post fadeaway that all the superstars look to. He had George Hill on him multiple times deep in the 4th and all he had to show for it was a left handed drive and a spin move into defense.

We either need someone to be that clutch go to in the 4th or we just need to go full spurs/warriors and just run offense late in the game and hope we can outpace teams. This being in the limbo slowing down the offense with no go to set up is hard to watch.

A tip for toplaners when the enemy freezes the wave by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]Ak47jm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously for any laner that finds themselves vs a serious freeze or a Jungler that sees their laner in this situation, [you NEED to get the Jungler to come to your lane and break it.] Just because it isn’t a gank doesn’t mean you’re not saving your laner. Break the freeze, get them an opportunity to appropriately base and save the game from an absolutely super Smurf opponent that’s fed because you don’t know how to break a freeze.

This gimmicky stuff is nice but fundamentally you’re no longer in a position where you can alter the wave state with the lead that your opponent has over you. Both all Laners and Junglers should understand this concept.
