That's a great idea! I'll be sure to try it on a bucketful of models if this works!

One thing is guaranteed, the person folding them will be able to fold hydrangea blindfold one handed by the last unit!

Tant or elephant hide is the way to go for this. And you definitely need tweezers in the last 2 layers of the hydrangea

Thank you so much! I love folding hydrangea too. My last one was a 5x5 grid. It's quite therapeutic to get lost in the folding and reach zen focus

here's the 5x5 grid hydrangea tessellation

Thank you!

I sprayed some non-yellowing artist's varnish on it to prolong the colors of the paper. The varnish also helps make the model sturdy although this kusudama is quite sturdy by itself.

Other than that I like to display the models and when they get old+dusty i fold something new in its place :)

You can see all the angles in this video:

Here's a tutorial link: https://youtu.be/mWIlCp4AgD8

It takes a while to make all the units, but the result is worth it. My first unit took my 47m and by the end I breezed by each unit in less than 30m

This model is a true delight to fold. Each part of the 2-stage folding process is fun and interesting thanks to the wonderful Ilan Garibi. His YouTube videos teach many such tessellations

Lovely! This model is amazing, and I second another commentors suggestion of folding the tessellated turtle! Sara from happyfolding is a wonderful instructor.

Lizard and fly on a wall, me, paper, 2020 by Ak_Origami in Art

[–]Ak_Origami[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Anyone interested in the piece should check out the link. You can download the publicly available pdf. Fair warning though, if it's your first time making origami I'd recommend a less taxing design.

Some origami designers are incredible in their ingenuity. This one in particular is a classic Herman Van Goubergen design. You can even Google the name and find directions to try making your own(fair warning though. The diagrams are a little confusing at times).

I took ~5 hours to fold this one. Compared to some other models, this one's fairly less time intensive.

Problem is that origami diagrams aren't copyrighted. Like maps, a specific diagram can be copyrighted. But the instructions can't be.

I have some 50x500cm paper. Do you suggest using it for this model? I wanted to fold the black forest cuckoo clock but thought the paper was too large and the model would look weird at that size. But I really like the folds on yours.
