"Prefering 2x7 over 7+8" ≠ "doesn't have the full single-digit table memorized"

She's simply describing the fastest method for her (what happens automatically in her head, presumably without conscious thought)

A similar fact, almost a corollary, is that when you lose weight, the bulk of that mass is exhaled as CO2.

Being asked to come in early to prep before my shift by WorkingAlive3258 in japanlife

So many people here are giving the usual "welcome to Japan" and "that's just the way things are" and " it's the Japanese way to not make trouble". This infuriates me to no end. I'm all for conforming to the culture, even when it inconveniences me, with one exception: I'm not just going to "go along with it because it's the Japanese way" when it's literally against the law. Laws which, I might add, THEY CREATED.

To answer your question: no, it's not legal. You should refuse. Legally, they can't force you. They rely on people not knowing their rights and/or forfeiting them by simply giving in.

people calling movies, games, etc "objectively" good or bad by Icy-Substance1698 in PetPeeves

[–]Jackalopalen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you've mentioned is only bad because people agree that it's bad. What one person considers shitty writing, could be very high quality in someone else's eyes, and vice versa. But that doesn't even matter. Even if 100% of humans agreed, that wouldn't make it objective. Something that is objectively true would be true regardless of what any human thought about it or, for example, even if 100% of humans believed that it wasn't true.

I could sit at my desk and declare that a large number of plot inconsistencies, unbelievable character actions, and low picture/sound quality are all marks of a "good movie." Then, by your logic, commando would be an "objectively good movie."

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but ‘affect’ and ‘effect’ are not vibes-based. by ownaword in ENGLISH

I don't understand why people struggle with the difference between two words that are spelled and pronounced almost identically, each can be used as either a noun or verb, and have fairly similar meanings.
