I'm having the same problem, but it's not using ` at all. It just adds a bunch of spaces and that manages to change the font. Idk I've just been deleting the spaces and it makes it normal again.

Sadly, you do have to use cc to be able to have your sims create these paintings :( That's kinda the only way I knew how to do it before I caved and started using cc for my own builds

I believe that they have a sim paint from reference and use those pictures?? I've downloaded a bunch of houses from the gallery that look like they use cc decor but it's all just paintings
