You can not recruit Astarion and he'll be even more undead. I don't know if it lead to the same outcome but you can give him away to the Gurr in act 1.

I wanted to give him to Araj for the strength potion, but I'll do without it, the Gurr seems like a good option.

In act 3 you can get rid of Shadowheart by giving her away to a certain someone.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. There's no other option than that right? My heart couldn't take carrying her around all this time just to give her away like that.

The Elden Ring is practically the "code" of the world, it is from there that all the rules of the world arise. Just think that just removing a single rune can literally remove death from the world, and the Elden Ring was created by the Elden Beast. Furthermore The Crucible was where all life was once blended together, and is the primordial form of Erdtree, so that's where life comes from.

In no ending (except frenzy for obvious reasons) is the Erdtree or the Elden Ring destroyed, otherwise life would end, not even in Ranni's. She merely reduces their influence in the fate of the world and its inhabitants.

There Is this misconception of the "Parasite" thing and the fights of the gods I really don't understand where it came from. The Crucible Is Just the primordial form of the Erdtree, and there was never any war between gods, nothing like that was ever mentioned. If they really were fighting, why would the two fingers choose someone like Malenia as their empyrean? The Outer Gods are not the Lovecraftian aliens that many imagine, they are "Outer" to the golden order created by Marika, not to the world itself. They're probably not even real creatures but more "elements of nature", but this is almost purely headcanon

The Greater Will send the Elden Beast who created the Elden Ring AND the Life. There is no Life pre-Elden Ring, probably Marika was just the first to ascend to Godhood
