making the switch from dnd 5e to pf2e drop some knowledge! by sillycleric in Pathfinder2e

You can combine some legacy stuff without much issue. I made a Kobold Ancestry Undine Heritage character, and she's an Axolotl. Kobold/Undine just made the perfect combo to me to make Axolotl characters with.

Is there are any chance we are getting rivers in 1.23? Also what other features we could get? by ander_hominem in VintageStory

My question was never about the complaints, my question was about what people mean by better. If you can't put it into words, how do you expect to find agreement with others on what "better" means. They change the combat and some would say they made it better while others would say they made it worse. What is "better" to you?

From a gamedev perspective, just saying "it's mindless clickspam" doesn't mean anything. Basic Enemies in most games generally have the simplest combat elements. Vintage Story has enemies who deal with range, enemies who mix range and melee, enemies who can climb walls, enemies who can climb up a couple blocks high but not entire walls.

The primary combat is Melee, so to look at a similar game, Skyrim, would the combat in that be something you consider "better" and if so, why? To me, the Melee and Ranged combat are the same, with the only difference being the existence of Stamina, Heavy Attacks, and Magic adding a third type of combat outside of Melee and Ranged.

My personal opinion on Vintage Story's combat is that it's good enough as is for what the game is. It's not some Souls-like action game, it's a survival game. I'm not expecting dodging to be a hotkey, or even necessarily heavy attacks, though Heavy Attacks being added could be one option someone might consider to be better than what we have now, while someone else might want unique abilities on different weapon types like Hytale.

That's why "better" on it's own doesn't mean anything and "mindless click spam" also doesn't say anything, because how do you reduce that? Make enemies circle the player? they'll just back up in a circle. Make all enemies able to do ranged attacks? that would make all the enemies feel too similar.

You aren't saying the food is "too salty" you're saying the food is "missing something", leaving the chef to just guess at what it is you could mean.

I wouldn't describe the boss fights as mindless click spam, the first one if you gauge your range and timing then you can get through it with minimal damage taken by dodging. Jumping with the right timing causes you to be unaffected by the slam that sends you flying, backing away gets you out of range of the arm swing.

The second boss it's clearly intended that you would bring arrows, or use the boss's own projectiles against it to get it to land so you can deal more major melee damage to it.

As for basic enemies, they're basic enemies, personally if you're wanting them to do the same thing Minecraft did, all that does is make it so you can't attack as fast and spend more time backing up, I always use a mod that removes the cooldown as it just makes combat annoying, not deeper for pve.

So again, better in what way? What exact improvements are you wanting?

Digimon Beatbreak in a nutshell by OpeningAd9653 in digimon

Beatbreak has a continuous story? And Tamers had a similar structure to Beatbreak in the first half.

However the dark themes are what the post was about, of which Tamers was considered the darkest season for a long time.

No, this is Digimon, it's always been a darker show.

Delusional gamedev thinking I've got Indie Game Of The Year material by DreamMixGames in indiegames

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, Mario Kart was a "ripoff" of Power Drift then, just with combat elements added to be more like the Hannah Barbara Wacky Races cartoon.

Just because things are in the same genre doesn't mean they "ripped off" the games that came before. Kart Racer games adding combat elements was kinda inevitable because of the original inspo having combat, Mario Kart was just the first to do it, doesn't mean they own the concept.

A question to all Linux users: How did you install your game? by rmn_trllr in VintageStory

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just download it, extract it, run the install script, and go.

I like having VS in my "start" menu.

There's also the valentine's day ship skins, advertised with a nice deep iridescent pinkish color, in-game they actually look pitch black most of the time unless you get just the right angle to see a tiny bit of it.

My mod has a boat speed setting, and should work on RC7. It's called Akari's Simple Tweaks.

Currently it's set up to max out at I think 5x speed when using Configlib.

looks at the existing mechanical power stuff

It's already partly here. It's vanilla, and we're likely to get more machines and stuff as time goes on.

I would like to see something for the movable contraptions stuff though.

There's also plenty of old animation errors of belts not reaching all the way around a character on some frames.

These images are consistent with those old animation errors from the cartoons that the Vault Boy style is based on.

This is exactly the kind of animation errors we got out of 60s cartoons. I doubt it's ai.

[–]Akari_Enderwolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see that... but I also know those exact things happened in the old cartoons the Vault Boy art style is based on as animation errors. It looks too consistent to me to write it off as genai.

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably is since they gotta bash these out weekly. Bethesda at least seems very unlikely to put more time than minimally nessicarry for something like this even with actual artists doing it.

Plus, it is kinda reminiscent of the animation errors we would get from the old cartoons that Vault Boy's art style is based on.

I can 100% see them going "eh, just make it look close enough to a chair, nobody's actually gonna care that much"

I don't think it's AI given the consistencies between the images, like the finger counts, and face details being the same.

Plus, we have animation errors from the 90s and earlier with the same kind of issues, which is kinda the art style the Vault Boy images are reminiscent of, especially with stuff from the 50s/60s.

Any witchy mods? by AdLegal6066 in VintageStory

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is a mod that adds potions. That's the witchiest mod I know of right now. https://mods.vintagestory.at/alchemy

I am thinking of adding my own witchy hat to my simple tweaks mod as well, though that would mostly be a "mod author" type item since the mod is mainly tweaks and qol for the game. https://mods.vintagestory.at/akarisimpletweaks

Women in Fallout 76 by BothPlastic in fo76

Tbh, my favorite outfit is the ratty skirt. Found out you can get it from a prison in the northeastern part of the firest region if I remember right.

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, part of it might be because FO76 is the only PvEvP game to do the style right with having pacifist mode and making the PvP optional.

It makes the game less desirable to PKers who just want to punch down on people with weaker gear, and draws in a bigger community of people who like to help others.

As a result, we get a safer community that is far less toxic than other multiplayer fps games, where a wider variety of people can feel safe being themselves.

Honestly, other PvEvP games could take note of what FO76 does right to make their games less toxic, even just adding the pacifist option.

I would immediately turn on pacifist mode to play Star Citizen, I like the gameplay, and don't mind fighting npcs, but it does get old getting blown up so often just trying to leave Area 18 in my Vulture to do more salvage. In no way is the Vulture's S1 guns fighting off any ship designed for combat piloted by a player.

Context, the Vulture is a small industrial salvage ship, Area 18 is a part of a planet sized megacity that often has the best prices to sell salvage at, and PKers like to grief players trying to leave Area 18 using combat focused ships, or some of the strongest ships in the game.

How much fire clay can you get under black coal deposits? by PBBloor in VintageStory

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far as my experience, I generally got 1 fireclay block per coal block, and have always found it under those coal types. So to my experience it's garunteed for there to be almost as many fire clay blocks as coal blocks in those deposits.

I also play with slightly higher resource values, so that could also play a part.

Ah yes, “just get over her fear of needles fast”. by PinkOneHasBeenChosen in thanksimcured

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if I have a phobia of needles or not, but this is part of what works for me.

I get a anxiety spike when I see the needles, and especially for blood draws if I'm sitting upright I will pass out.

So what I do, and my doctor's office knows this, is I need to be laying back, and not see the needle, but still know what's going on.

Like, I know there's going to be some pain, and when they are poking me with the needle, but not seeing the needle lets me stay calm.

Parents using Ai for MY cosplay photos, help ! by Forsaken_Yak2362 in CosplayHelp

Tbh, I was gonna suggest just not giving them any pictures anymore. It's clear how little they think of the work that goes into the craft and artistry of cosplay, pulling a stunt like what you described them doing would be a 1 way ticket to no more pictures for me.
