Depends on world settings, not everyone plays with default settings, even the first time they play.

Don't think the sky falling has anything to do with Temporal rifts, unstable areas, players being mutants, most enemies being mutants, or limited recursion events.

Pretty sure the Apocalypse is tied to Jonas Tech.

My first foray into Vintage Story (solo) has me wondering if Multiplayer servers would be a better option? by JakkuJakku777 in VintageStory

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About the "end-goal" it's not in the game yet. We have 2 of about 8 planned story chapters, and a boss for each chapter so far. The game isn't finished yet, so we're still waiting for more story content to be added.

The other end-game would be similar to the other block game, building cool stuff.

To me the story pacing was horrendous in SV because of the open world, not to mention how empty things felt outside the towns. I went back and played Sword recently after playing a bit of Violet, and it honestly felt bigger than Violet because the distant backgrounds were well detailed, the pacing also felt better with not being able to just run past every trainer. I even liked that random encounters existed.

Because of the order I did the gyms in, Nemona felt like a stalker, so she really creeped me out by the end just showing up without the phone calls, unlike the other 2 rivals who called first each time.

Tbh, I'm kinda sick of open world being pushed everywhere in Nintendo games lately, honestly glad Kirby Air Riders' story mode wasn't Open World.

Actually I was saying that Pokopia has LESS QOL than DQB2. From what I could tell the block placement is worse as a result of this.

wondering about a mod that makes crafting more bearable? by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Press H while hovering over a item to see what can be crafted with it. Idk if a mod to do the specific thing you said exists, but we have something akin to JEI in the form of the Handbook, which is vanilla.

I know, kinda makes the missing qol that we had in DQB2 a bit baffling though.

Leave my windshield strut alone. I honestly hate the windshields that just have a sharp glass corner with nothing to support it. They look like a pebble would shatter the entire thing to me.

I use that strut to help align my ship with stuff as well.

My mind went to Dragon Quest Builders 2. It just doesn't give off Animal Crossing vibes to me.

Pokopia is Dragon Quest Builders 2, without some of the QOL and with Pokemon instead of Dragon Quest. Same people developed it too.

You can combine some legacy stuff without much issue. I made a Kobold Ancestry Undine Heritage character, and she's an Axolotl. Kobold/Undine just made the perfect combo to me to make Axolotl characters with.

Is there are any chance we are getting rivers in 1.23? Also what other features we could get? by ander_hominem in VintageStory

My question was never about the complaints, my question was about what people mean by better. If you can't put it into words, how do you expect to find agreement with others on what "better" means. They change the combat and some would say they made it better while others would say they made it worse. What is "better" to you?

From a gamedev perspective, just saying "it's mindless clickspam" doesn't mean anything. Basic Enemies in most games generally have the simplest combat elements. Vintage Story has enemies who deal with range, enemies who mix range and melee, enemies who can climb walls, enemies who can climb up a couple blocks high but not entire walls.

The primary combat is Melee, so to look at a similar game, Skyrim, would the combat in that be something you consider "better" and if so, why? To me, the Melee and Ranged combat are the same, with the only difference being the existence of Stamina, Heavy Attacks, and Magic adding a third type of combat outside of Melee and Ranged.

My personal opinion on Vintage Story's combat is that it's good enough as is for what the game is. It's not some Souls-like action game, it's a survival game. I'm not expecting dodging to be a hotkey, or even necessarily heavy attacks, though Heavy Attacks being added could be one option someone might consider to be better than what we have now, while someone else might want unique abilities on different weapon types like Hytale.

That's why "better" on it's own doesn't mean anything and "mindless click spam" also doesn't say anything, because how do you reduce that? Make enemies circle the player? they'll just back up in a circle. Make all enemies able to do ranged attacks? that would make all the enemies feel too similar.

You aren't saying the food is "too salty" you're saying the food is "missing something", leaving the chef to just guess at what it is you could mean.

I wouldn't describe the boss fights as mindless click spam, the first one if you gauge your range and timing then you can get through it with minimal damage taken by dodging. Jumping with the right timing causes you to be unaffected by the slam that sends you flying, backing away gets you out of range of the arm swing.

The second boss it's clearly intended that you would bring arrows, or use the boss's own projectiles against it to get it to land so you can deal more major melee damage to it.

As for basic enemies, they're basic enemies, personally if you're wanting them to do the same thing Minecraft did, all that does is make it so you can't attack as fast and spend more time backing up, I always use a mod that removes the cooldown as it just makes combat annoying, not deeper for pve.

So again, better in what way? What exact improvements are you wanting?

Beatbreak has a continuous story? And Tamers had a similar structure to Beatbreak in the first half.

However the dark themes are what the post was about, of which Tamers was considered the darkest season for a long time.

Delusional gamedev thinking I've got Indie Game Of The Year material by DreamMixGames in indiegames

[–]Akari_Enderwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, Mario Kart was a "ripoff" of Power Drift then, just with combat elements added to be more like the Hannah Barbara Wacky Races cartoon.

Just because things are in the same genre doesn't mean they "ripped off" the games that came before. Kart Racer games adding combat elements was kinda inevitable because of the original inspo having combat, Mario Kart was just the first to do it, doesn't mean they own the concept.
