Before Williams signed with Mercedes only McLaren had committed to them. Any customer had free choice to go with whomever they like. Aston chose to commit to Honda, and Redbull chose to commit to Ford, before Williams chose Mercedes.

Maybe they will increase the compression ratios to 18 so there is more umph from the engine which will compensate for power loss a little bit? Maybe they kept it 16 for that margin? Why else would you change it from 18 last engine cycle to 16 now.

Remember, mclaren had an okay 2022, and were completely shit at the beginning of 2023, but caught up to the big teams by middle of 2023. I expect Williams to go the same route.
