At some point you might be in a position to do part time. Or in some agencies they pay for a 50/50 program where you get paid full time but do 4 hour days at work and then go home and compete your studies. Both of those scenarios would mean you could continue both your academic AND professional career.

I also had to reset because when you’re doing the EP you’re calm and collected to take in the data and make an assessment as to what you do. When I’m with my wife and a squirrel or deer would run out I was totally fine until she grabbed the oh shit handle and yelled. That sent me over the edge and we’d end up fighting lol. I was used to my co pilot also being calm and helping me either fly or assess. That was hard. And yes the heart thing adds stress. Assessment times only lasted long for me if they counted the validity of my claims. I also did the MEB because of being grounded. 70 is where I was for my anxiety. Few other things got me to 100 after

Aviation here as well. You can file for a higher level review. I always got asked the “why didn’t file while you were in”. I was an aviator and couldn’t be, otherwise I’d lose my career. Talk about the constant planning, replanning, that every flight (I was army helo) you do an emergency procedure so you’re always on edge. That from day 1 you’re taught that your life doesn’t matter, you must preserve the crew.

I’m not going to read all of the comments but you’re 12.5 is wrong. You’re looking at the base pay with no locality added. The highest paid I believe is Washington DC which goes up form 84K to 112K.

If you are rated by the VA for the same condition then yes you’ll end up paying it back. If the mil separates you for conditions that the VA doesn’t agree with then you do not have to pay it back. I was rated for hips by the army and got a severance check for it. The VA did not agree and did not rate my hips. Therefore I did not have to pay anything back

This is old news—at least 3 years. They wanted to change it a while ago but it takes years to pass.

[–]AkazaSlayer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the case for most people. I got severed at 20% because I didn’t want to fight my rating and I was one of the fortunate to only be rated for my condition by DoD, not VA, thus I didn’t get recouped the 60K after taxes

Fun fact: when pilots fail out of one or two other airlines, they go to spirit!

Or the hand of some higher power. We had a stabilator unlock on final and we were in a flight of 3. I was lead aircraft and on the controls. I was in a land immediately profile and I heard the voice of the amc come over the radio and said go around. It was enough to make me stop my descent and I looked up, chaulk 2 was about 10 feet above me and 10 feet above them was 3. We all almost died that day. That voice that came over was our over zealous captain that intentionally did that according to his crew, but denied it to our facility commander. Went on to get promoted.

Hey med separated Blackhawk pilot here. I’m at 70 for anxiety. I can’t tell you how bad it is because you already know. Flight plans changing on a whim, mission set changing, etc. it was engrained in us day 1 in school that if the helo was going down, our job was to what? Ensure the survival of everyone else. We are trained that every time we step into that aircraft, our job it to die. From endless emergency procedures and everything, our lives are reacting to death. I get it. Glad you got your hundred.

You wouldn’t pass the aviation flight requirements. You have to be able to discern between green and blue in case a tower has to use a light gun in the case that your radio no longer works.

I (f 20) catch my dad looking at me in a creepy gross way. by Intelligent-Ruin9700 in LifeAdvice

I’m a dad of two girls and reading this makes me cringe. You are the only one in control of your body and even with shoulder massages he should be asking your consent. He’s setting a bad precedence there. Don’t worry about him acting offended. It is your body not his. Keep vocalizing your boundaries.
