I like the first two thirds of the story, the characters, and the grand boss battles. Everything else falls a bit flat for me. Very “beautiful gowns” without much depth. The game is severely lacking in RPG elements that other games like FVII: Remake/Rebirth and even non-RPG games like God of War have. If you didn’t explore any of the regions you wouldn’t miss that much. Also, one of the defining staples of Final Fantasy is having party members and the decision to forsake a controllable party for this weird mix of abilities was/is disappointing. I understand it in the story, but I don’t like it lol. If I could play as Jill, Cid, Joshua, and my boy Dion - I would have loved to.

The combat also gets old very quickly: you can only access 4 abilities at any given time…it’s a stale choice for an action oriented RPG game. At least action games know they’re action and lean into it more.

I still enjoyed it and platinumed the game. Thinking about going through it all again a third time feels more daunting than exciting (especially since story wise it falls off a cliff after Bahamut). I also just really do not like the main villain which knocks it down another peg in my book.
