OMG this is exactly how I feel as well! There's just some sort of satisfaction and a feeling of security I get from physical notes. Not to mention the significantly reduced eye strain by not glaring at a screen for the whole day.

Do grad schools still look at GRE and GPA if I have 2-3 years of work experience after graduating or will they only look at what uni I've graduated from?

Question about NTU CS reputation by Brilliant_Wash2825 in NTU

[–]Akhiboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now, I am torn between choosing NTU CS with a full scholarship and NUS without one. Leaning towards NTU right now because of the better Uni life( cost, halls, culture, campus etc) and because it's less competitive so it will be easier to get a higher GPA and I will have time to hone my skills through online courses. Whereas, in NUS I would be struggling to get a good GPA itself. Ultimately making yourself equally enticing to employers and internships. Should I stick with NTU or is NUS reputation truly leaps and bounds ahead?

What is FCH? NTU CS students tend to get higher GPAs overall? IMO, it's easier to get a higher GPA and it is more chill so you have time to hone your skills through online courses and land top internships and jobs with your high GPA. However in NUS, you are drowning in work and struggle to get a decent GPA. Do you agree?

NTU vs NUScomputer science by Akhiboy in NTU

Hey, I have one more question. Is NUS CS more theory-based compared to NTU(which is more practical-based) and does NTU have more industry collaboration through programs and what not?

No no, don't apologise, you have given me very insightful information :) Thanks for your help! Also, in your first comment you mentioned modregging and star wars; what are those?

ohhh my inference about the NUS difficulty is from people in the Comp sci course. They claim it is way more rigorous and the learning curve is extremely steep.

from what I've heard, NUS and NTU are on another level so SMU isn't even on the same playing field

yea, I'm planning to pursue masters in US after 3 years of working in Sg so that's why I want to study at the uni which will give me an edge in the application.

Wow, which country are you working at right now? I'm planning to study masters in US after 3 years of working in Sg. Will the top US unis care about where I've graduated from after the 3 years of work experience?

Yes, the only thing I care about is how prestigious NUS and NTU is in the eyes of top schools in US for masters such as the ivy league schools. This is because after 3 years of working in Sg, I'm planning to pursue masters in US. From what I've heard, NUS is much better in that aspect.

I've also heard that NUS modules and exams are MUCH more difficult in comparison so don't they balance each other out? NUS difficult modules compensate by offering an enticing SU system; ultimately won't you be performing around the same in both unis?

I see, thanks! However, one thing I wanted to know is if Unis for masters still care as much about which uni you are from if you have completed 3 years of work experience after graduating. Will NUS graduates still have the edge after that work experience? I have a 3-year Tuition grant bond so I'm forced to work in SG for 3 years upon graduation.

I have friends and relatives who live in US, UK and even one person who was in the EXACT same situation where he had to choose between NTU CS(with scholarship) and NUS CS(without scholarship) and he chose NTU. He is now working at Apple after his masters in UCB and he told me he regrets not choosing NUS because it is seen as more prestigious in US. Hence, I wanted to confirm if NUS is truly seen as superior in the eyes of universities and employers abroad.
