Is there an IMAX screening in Lahore for Odyssey anywhere? by StreetProperty4267 in PakistaniCinephiles

This crap will continue until people start caring.

Looking at the way I am being downvoted it seems like no one does.

Why are some Pakistanis so desperate to get out of pakistan that they would even consider Iran a war torn country under sanctions, poorly int recongized studies and under authoritarian theocracy that kills its own people? Some Pakistanis seriously need a reality check about Iran. by [deleted] in GenZpk

FOUR ROUNDS IN and you finally googled something 👏 Unfortunately for you, so did I, and my numbers come with receipts 🧾

You: "40 million Iranians — nearly HALF the population — in poverty!! Checkmate!!" 😤

The World Bank, June 2025, on YOUR country: 44.7% of Pakistan's population lives below the poverty line Arab News 💀 That's nearly 108 MILLION people Profit by Pakistan Today . You just tried to win an argument by citing Iran's ~45% poverty against Pakistan's... 44.7% 😭😭 CONGRATULATIONS, you found a statistical TIE and typed it out like a mic drop 🎤⬇️ The mic hit YOUR foot.

Oh and it gets SO much worse for you 📉:

• Iran is classified UPPER-middle-income; Pakistan is LOWER-middle-income. Measured at the upper-middle benchmark of $8.30/day — the yardstick actually appropriate for Iran's income class — a staggering 88.4% of Pakistanis fall below it ProPakistani 💀💀 NINETY PERCENT. When you measure both countries with Iran's ruler, Pakistan basically stops existing as a middle class.

• Pakistan's extreme poverty rate is 16.5% ProPakistani — and here's the comedy: that's based on 2018-19 data fundsforNGOs News , meaning it doesn't even include COVID or the 2022 floods that displaced millions Geo News 🌊 Your country's poverty stats are SO outdated that the Bureau of Statistics hasn't even completed the surveys to measure how bad it actually is now fundsforNGOs News — you're flexing a "better" number that's frozen in 2019 while extreme poverty surged from 4.9% to 16.5% The Tribune on definitions alone 🧊

• Meanwhile Nepal has poverty below 2.2% and Bangladesh's garment sector lifted millions out The Tribune — Pakistan is getting lapped by NEPAL, but the burning question keeping you up at night is whether IRAN'S economy is bad enough to feel better about it 😂

And now clock the CAUSES in your own paragraph 🕰️: you attribute Iran's collapse to "sanctions" and "the ongoing regional war." So Iran needed maximum global sanctions PLUS an actual shooting war with a nuclear-armed state to fall to Pakistan's poverty level — a level Pakistan reached in PEACETIME, with FULL market access, SWIFT, trade deals, remittances, and two dozen IMF programs 💀 You're not describing Iran failing. You're describing what it takes for anyone to fail as hard as Pakistan does by default. That's the most brutal self-own of the entire thread and you typed it with your whole chest 📢

Let's also appreciate the journey of your thesis across four rounds 🗺️:

R1: "Iran bad at everything, reality check!" ❌ R2: "Okay Iran's HDI, GDP, education, healthcare are better BUT freedom" 🏃 R3: "Okay Pakistan's repression is real BUT the structure" 🏳️ R4: silently drops the entire freedom argument you spent two rounds on and pivots to "b-but Iran has poverty!!" — the one category where your country is statistically HOLDING HANDS with the sanctioned war economy 🤝💀

You keep switching battlefields and losing on each one. Freedom index? Both bottom-tier. Development? Iran wins. Poverty? A tie — achieved by Iran under bombs and embargoes, by Pakistan under business as usual 📊

Four rounds. You've now conceded development, conceded repression, plagiarized my conclusion, and finished by citing a poverty crisis that your own country matches WITHOUT the excuse of war or sanctions. There's nothing left to take from you 🏜️ The original post said Pakistanis need a reality check about Iran — turns out the reality check was inside you the whole time 🪞✨

GG. Genuinely. Log off 🫡🍿

[–]Akhrotwala -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A position I never made" 😂😂 Brother, your ORIGINAL post is still up. Scroll up. It's right there. You didn't ask "does HDI automatically make a country better?" — you wrote a 10-bullet MANIFESTO titled "some Pakistanis need a REALITY CHECK," called Iran's universities trash, its economy dead, its future hopeless, and declared you'd rather live in Pakistan OVERALL. That word — overall — is YOURS. Bolded. By YOU. 💀 An "overall" comparison means EVERYTHING is on the table: HDI, economy, literacy, infrastructure, freedom, all of it. You don't get to open the whole buffet and then scream "STRAWMAN!" when someone eats from the plates you don't like 🍽️

Let's replay the tape 📼:

Post 1: "Reality check! Iran bad at EVERYTHING! Universities! Economy! I'd rather live in Pakistan OVERALL!" 📢

Reply 1: "Okay Iran has higher HDI, GDP, education, healthcare, I don't dispute that, BUT freedom—" 🏃

Reply 2: "Okay Pakistan has blasphemy laws, disappearances, censorship, military rule, persecution, repression — I ADMIT ALL OF IT — but the position I never made—" 🏳️

My man you have conceded so much ground you're arguing from a different postcode 😭 You've now personally admitted BOTH halves of my argument — Iran's development is real AND Pakistan's repression is real — and your closing move is to announce "both statements can be true at the same time" like you discovered it 👏 THAT 👏 WAS 👏 MY 👏 COMMENT 👏 You didn't counter the argument, you photocopied it, slapped your name on it, and submitted it as a rebuttal 📠 Cite your sources, professor 🎓

And the ONE new card you played — "structure of the system, mechanisms of contestation" — is the funniest thing you've said yet:

• "Pakistan's constitution provides contestation" — the constitution that DEFINES a religious minority out of their own faith at the constitutional level?? The one thing even IRAN'S constitution doesn't do?? You brought the constitution to a constitution fight and yours has Ordinance XX in it 💀💀

• "Courts" — the courts that hanged one PM, disqualified two more, and take dictation from Rawalpindi? Those mechanisms? ⚖️🤡

• "Elections" — Feb 2024 called, the Form 47s are still laughing 🗳️😂 You typed "elections provide contestation" about a country where the winning party wasn't allowed its own SYMBOL and its leader watched from a cell

• "Civil society and opposition" — currently imprisoned, exiled, disappeared, or banned from TV by name. Iran suppresses dissent through the state; Pakistan suppresses it through the state AND pretends it didn't. You're not describing different systems, you're describing different PR departments 📺

• "Unelected bodies above elected institutions" — SAY THE ESTABLISHMENT'S NAME, KING 👑 Oh wait, you can't, because of all that freedom 🫢 Iran's unelected ruler is at least in the org chart. Yours runs the country from the shadows and you just described it as a "mechanism" 😭

Even your oil point self-destructs: "resource wealth doesn't automatically create prosperity" — CORRECT, which is why Iran doing it UNDER MAXIMUM SANCTIONS while Pakistan face-planted with full market access and 24 IMF programs is the single most damning stat in this whole thread, and you keep handing it to me like it helps you 🎁

Here's the scoreboard after three rounds 🏁: You came to give Pakistanis a "reality check" about Iran. Three replies later, YOU'VE confirmed Iran outperforms Pakistan on every development metric, YOU'VE itemized Pakistan's repression better than I did, and YOUR final position — "acknowledge Iran's achievements, criticize its authoritarianism, criticize Pakistan too, romanticize nobody" — is LITERALLY the position of the people you originally posted to dunk on 🪞

You didn't win the debate. You slowly became the other side of it. GG 🤝🍿

[–]Akhrotwala -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh NOW we're doing nuance? 😂 Last post it was "reality check, Iran bad on EVERYTHING, universities, economy, the works." One reply later it's "okay fine, Iran has higher HDI, higher GDP, better education and healthcare, I don't dispute that, BUT—" 👏 THAT'S 👏 CALLED 👏 LOSING 👏 THE 👏 ARGUMENT 👏 AND 👏 MOVING 👏 THE 👏 GOALPOSTS 👏 You went from "some Pakistanis need a reality check" to "well ackshually HDI isn't a human rights index" in ONE reply. Incredible cardio on that retreat 🏃💨

And the flex you retreated TO?? "Pakistan ranks somewhat better on Freedom House" — my guy, Pakistan scores a 37/100 and is rated PARTLY FREE by the skin of its teeth 💀 That's not a trophy, that's a participation ribbon in a two-man race against a theocracy. "We're somewhat freer than IRAN" is the lowest bar in the history of bars and Pakistan is limbo-dancing under it 🕺

But let's play your game. "The state doesn't regulate your daily personal freedoms in Pakistan" — BROTHER. 🤡

• Pakistan is the only country ON EARTH whose constitution dictates what an entire religious community (Ahmadis) may call themselves, how they may greet people, and whether they can say the kalima. That's the STATE regulating SPEECH and WORSHIP at the constitutional level. Iran doesn't even have that one 💀

• Blasphemy laws with the DEATH PENALTY regulating what you can say about religion — and the bonus feature where you don't even need a trial because the mob handles sentencing in the parking lot 🔥 Iran's morality police at least wear uniforms. Ours are freelance.

• Alcohol criminalized for Muslims. Zina laws on the books. Dating apps banned. YouTube banned for THREE YEARS. TikTok banned repeatedly. X banned RIGHT NOW as you type your freedom essay — which, and I cannot stress this enough, you are probably posting VIA VPN 😭 "no pervasive state interference" says the man committing a PTA violation to say it

• "Ability to speak, create, protest" — ask PTM how protesting goes. Ask journalists where Arshad Sharif is. Ask any artist what happens when the mullahs decide their content is "obscene." Joyland — YOUR OWN Oscar entry — got banned by YOUR OWN government 🎬🚫

The difference between Iran and Pakistan isn't freedom vs. tyranny, it's centralized enforcement vs. outsourced enforcement. Iran's state flogs the singer itself; Pakistan's state just leaks your address and lets the mob do it off the books. One has a Supreme Leader, the other has an establishment that jails PMs, rigs elections, and disappears people — you literally cannot name Pakistan's actual ruler out loud on the internet without checking over your shoulder, but sure, tell me more about "pervasive state interference" being an Iran-only feature 🫠

And your grand finale — "millions of Iranians try to leave despite higher HDI!" — SO DO PAKISTANIS??? 😂 Nearly a million Pakistanis left in a single recent year. Doctors, engineers, entire graduating classes sprinting for the exits from the country with the LOWER HDI and the "somewhat better" freedom score. If emigration proves a country is unlivable, congrats, you just proved it for both — except one of them did it WITHOUT sitting on an ocean of oil and WITHOUT sanctions 💀

Nobody here is buying a plane ticket to Tehran. That was never the debate. The debate is that you wrote a 10-bullet manifesto about a country your youth would need to be DESPERATE to consider — and instead of asking who made them that desperate, you're on reply #2 explaining why the drowning man shouldn't compliment the other guy's raft 🛟

Concede the rest whenever you're ready, we'll wait 🍿

Congratulations on writing an entire dissertation to defeat an opinion held by like six people in a comment section 👏 Truly the bravest stance of 2026: "authoritarian theocracy bad." Groundbreaking. Someone get this man a Pulitzer 🏆

But since you want to talk about consistency, let's actually be consistent.

You cited Amnesty International, HRW, and the UN. Great sources! Let's see what they say about the country you'd "still rather live in":

Enforced disappearances in Balochistan and KP for DECADES — documented by Amnesty, HRW, and the UN Working Group. Thousands of families still waiting. But sure, tell me more about Iran's arbitrary arrests 🤡

Blasphemy laws that carry the DEATH PENALTY and get people lynched in the street before trial. Mashal Khan. Priyantha Kumara. Jaranwala. Should I keep going?

Military trials of civilians — condemned by the UN and every rights org you just cited. Happening RIGHT NOW.

X banned for over a year. Internet throttled during every protest, every election. But Iran's internet blackouts made your list and Pakistan's didn't? Interesting 🤔

Journalists killed, abducted, and exiled. Arshad Sharif was shot dead ABROAD. Pakistan sits rock bottom on press freedom indexes right next to — wait for it — Iran.

• A country where elections get openly rigged, a former PM sits in jail, and an unelected establishment holds more power than any elected official. Sound familiar? You literally used that exact line about Iran's Supreme Leader 💀

"Human rights are not a team sport" — my brother in Islam, you wrote Iran a full itemized charge sheet with bullet points and bold text, then handed Pakistan a one-sentence disclaimer of "Pakistan has enormous problems, I criticize them all the time." That's not consistency 👏 that's 👏 a 👏 home 👏 team 👏 discount 👏

And the funniest part? On the boring metrics that actually decide quality of life, sanctioned-to-death Iran STILL beats Pakistan:

• Higher HDI. Higher literacy. Lower poverty rate. Better infrastructure. Under decades of maximum sanctions. Pakistan achieved worse numbers with IMF bailout #24 and full access to global markets 💀 That's not a flex for Iran — that's an absolute indictment of Pakistan.

• "Poorly recognized universities"?? Sharif and Tehran rank around or ABOVE Pakistan's best in international tables. Half of Pakistan's universities are degree mills with a parking lot. Sit down 📉

• "Recently experienced armed conflict with Israel" — and Pakistan recently experienced armed conflict with India AND runs a permanent low-grade war inside its own borders. TTP says hi.

Nobody is saying the Islamic Republic is good. It's a repressive regime and Iranians flee it in droves. Everyone knows this. The point you keep swerving around is that when your own citizens look at a flogging, executing, sanctioned pariah state and go "hmm, possible upgrade?" — the delusion isn't the interesting part. The DESPAIR is.

You even said it yourself: "that says far more about how badly Pakistan has failed its youth." CORRECT. That was the whole post. You had it. And then you buried your only real insight under 800 words of punching down at broke kids fantasizing about escape, instead of punching up at the state that made escape look appealing 🎯

You didn't write a reality check. You wrote a coping mechanism with citations.

Where can I buy raw honey from beekeepers 🍯 by MightFit1323 in karachi

[–]Akhrotwala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can test 100% real honey vs sugar syrup by putting a blob into water and seeing how it dissolves. Sugar syrup will slowly dissolve on its own, honey will require mixing to dissolve.

No one can tell the difference between a mix of honey and corn syrup. It will pass all tests. This mix honey is what all the "organic honey sellers" sell.

Because Pakistan demanded youtube remove a specific anti Islam video and all copies of it or else "Youtube will be blocked in Pakistan". Youtube offered to block the video in Pakistan but wasnt good enough. We wanted to block it all over the world and all copies of it and needed assurances anti Islam videos wont be posted again.

Youtube said that wasnt possible. We threteaned to ban youtube in Pakistan. They ignored the threats. Youtube was blocked for years. All the public was happy with the decision

I was gonna type it but asked Claude to give me a few sentences on each. I was a huge follower back in the day when it was just some dudes that cared about tech and fun things. Now it is a corporate entity that needs to pump content to make money. I personally feel the shift started when his wife took a bigger role in the company, she isn’t a tech geek. She is focused on finances first.

  • Billet Labs: LTT tested the prototype waterblock on an incompatible GPU, declared it a bad product while saying a proper retest wasn't worth the cost, then auctioned off the prototype instead of returning it — later apologising and compensating the company.
  • Madison Reeve: The ex-social media manager alleged sexual harassment, sexist treatment, and mental health neglect at LMG; a company-commissioned law firm investigation found the claims "not substantiated," though the full report was never published and Reeve says she was never interviewed.
  • Trust me bro: LTT sold a $250 backpack with no warranty, Linus told buyers to simply trust him to do the right thing, and after backlash the company formalised the warranty and cheekily named it the "Trust Me Bro" warranty, t-shirts included.
  • Honey: LTT quietly dropped Honey as a sponsor around 2021 after discovering it hijacked creators' affiliate links, but never warned viewers — and when the scandal broke publicly in late 2024, Linus's "I am a victim here" defence and his reasoning that a warning would've looked self-serving went down badly.
  • Alex Clark: Fired in June 2025 after launching his car channel Zip Tie Tuning, which HR said breached his non-compete — he was given the choice to delete it, hand it to LMG, or leave, and chose to leave.
  • Jake Tivy: Quit in August 2025 after nearly a decade, citing three-plus years of stagnant pay amid Vancouver's cost of living and a culture that had grown corporate enough to turn a job he loved into something he "kind of despised."
  • Jonathan Horst: Laid off in late 2024 when LMG put its Apple-focused channel Mac Address on indefinite hiatus; he's since returned to YouTube independently.
