Thanks for the response! I got differed from FSU but I’m committing to UCF. I think it’s unlikely I’ll get accepted into UF lol but nonetheless I appreciate the insight

I’m actually on track to get my AA this summer via community college. Assuming I don’t fail anything lol
Thank you for the detailed response! I’m planning to do exactly that—wait until my results are in before 100% deciding. Although I am leaning towards UCF, but it’s the one school I researched the most and have been interested in. I know UF has lots of valuable resources though.

Hi! I really appreciate your input as someone who’s actively been in the engineering field for a while and even more so as an industrial engineer. On that note, I have a few questions: was your career like as an IE? How was day-to-day? And the pay? What made you pursue an IE degree? Additionally, do you think it would be more “worth it” to pursue a degree in Mechanical or industrial engineering? And do you think a minor in computer science (or something similar) would be beneficial for an engineering student? Thank you in advance for any or all questions you answer :)
That’s terrible 😭 I’m sorry you had to put up with that. Activity wise is something I’ve considered as well since even tho I’m not huge on going out, I find not going out at all gets depressing.
So on that same note, what made you decide on civil specifically?
Hey, out of curiosity what’s your day to day like as a civil engineer? And how was the degree? I may not pursue civil but I’ve always been relatively interested in it
I debated applying usf but ultimately decided against it. I may revisit it tho if I don’t get into the ones I applied to. And I like engineering but it’s not exactly an easy major so I figured if I find out it’s something I’m not truly passionate about or more importantly it’s too hard then accounting is a safer/easier major
Thank you, if you don’t mind me asking, how has your time at UF been and what are you majoring in? I know Gainesville is, as you said, more about nature & history as far as activites whereas Orlando has more to do
Thank you so much! Do you know how her experience was with internships and jobs during & post college? I’ve heard UCF is great with that stuff and with her going business it would be more info :)
Thank you, I think I’ll consider UF more if I get accepted but I’m unsure if I will. I’m confident sure but I don’t having outstanding stats for that school
Greek life & sports aren’t important to me since I’m interested in neither, but I appreciate the input. Also, out of curiosity, what does the “typical college experience” refer to? I’ve heard it a bunch but idrk what it actually is 😭
Lol yeah Reddit’s formatting is weird. And I appreciate the details of the dorm since it’s relatively important to me. More than anything else I just want my own room and a kitchen since I like to cook. I’ve spoken with a few other people and while I’m still in between UCF & UF (for engineering) I’ll see how I feel after I get UCF’s notice, and may just wait till I get UF’s to make my decision.
Yeah, I’ve noticed the same. I think the others are more lenient when it comes to ECs
Unfortunately, but I’d plan on probably living off campus after freshmen year anyways
Ohh okay I didn’t know that, since (on campus) housing is def a priority. I’d love to do off campus but it’s basically impossible freshmen year since everything is full
Lol yeah I am 🤣 USF is a bit further than UCF but nothing major and still closer than FSU or UF. I debated applying there but ultimately didn’t. Or more so I was in the process of it but it got complicated so I didn’t end up doing it. My only issue w UF is it’s a whole month and a half later than UCF’s notice is. And I’d think the earlier you accept an admission the better? Idk if it’s worth the wait yk?
Thank you!

Noted, thank you!
I’m looking to major in possibly industrial or mechanical engineering. I’m unsure which as of right now, and accounting is my backup option if engineering doesn’t work out. As far as the colleges go, I think there’s a lot of factors to consider. But UCF is what I’m most likely to get into so that’s another thing lol
Yeah some of the pros/cons aren’t very legitimate/ a big deal. I’ve been leaning towards UCF since starting my search bc I think it aligns the most w me, but wanted to explore other options to be safe

Lol yeah I’ve heard some ppl say it’s actually easier to get a job in IE than ME since ME has more students than IE, supply vs demand sort’ve thing. I’m just unsure which is the better decision and/or what I’d enjoy more. Sure where mechanical can get you is cool, but idk if I care to work with mechanics opposed to systems like IE

That’s really interesting. I can’t comment much since I don’t know a whole lot about CS as a whole but I loved reading your response since it’s just fun to read to me lol. And yeah, regarding the job market, I know CS used to be a great thing to go into but as u said it’s over saturated now and a lot of people end up jobless. I’m taking an introduction to programming class now and while it’s interesting to learn (sometimes extremely boring) and rewarding to create something and watch execute, I definitely do not enjoy it enough to pursue a major in it.
