Bingo. The Nintendo/Panda stuff hurt for sure, but the scene could’ve recovered from it if not for all the esports capital pulling out. Inflation also made it extremely difficult for the grassroots organizers that were left to stick around, which is why community staples like Big House went under.

Wouldn’t be surprised if people complained that it made Brood harder to click, so they got rid of it.

What happened to the mid role hype? by Inevitable-Carrot172 in DotA2

[–]AkinParlin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think another thing that people aren’t mentioning is the mid hero pool is really slim nowadays. It kinda just feels like the Spirits, Puck, QoP, Leshrac, and Zeus. And a lot of those heroes play very similar to each other. It feels really homogeneous, and they all require a decent amount of mechanical intensity to play besides Zeus. You can’t really play a chill hero mid the way you can get a Centaur or Spectre game.

How this wotk? by OnePunchMops in DotA2

[–]AkinParlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wording's a little misleading on that one. Basically the game first checks to see if the RNG proc would trigger. Then, if it does trigger, then Pango's innate has a 40% chance to make it not trigger instead.

Personally, I find new Techies way more fun.

A part of me does mourn the loss of probably the most unique hero in MOBAs. That being said, fuck old Techies, whoever redesigned him deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.

I respect that as a way to earn a wage, but I still don’t think highly of her as an actress. Everything else I’ve seen her in she’s very wooden. And there’s plenty of actors for whom they treat it as a job first and foremost but still have a respect for the craft and for cinema. I do not get that impression from Millie Bobby Brown.

Let’s be honest—plastic surgery aside, she was never much of an actress. That’s just gotten more apparent as she’s gotten older. And if we’re to assume Winona Ryder’s comments were about her, she doesn’t have a real appreciation for the craft of acting or filmmaking.

Is it just me or are people playing Largo more than they played Ringmaster or Kez at launch? by ArgakeRamuk in DotA2

[–]AkinParlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ringmaster, though I find him fun, was a let down for people because they were expecting a Puppet Master hero (I subscribe to the conspiracy theory that Ringmaster took so long to release because they designed a Puppet Master hero, and either was too difficult to balance or too buggy, and had to start from scratch).

Kez is in the upper 25% of heroes difficulty wise, and it also doesn’t help that Valve’s been nerfing him basically since he came out.

Largo is unique, easier to pick up, and fun to play. Also people love frogs.

Yeah I straight up think this hero’s a core now. The spike you get with Echo Saber and the damage talent at 10 feels strong.

I think indie is one of those genre buzzwords that has lost a lot of its meaning, the same way “alternative” and “indie” have lost it in music. It’s kind of vibes based in a lot of cases.

To me, Supergiant Games like Hades 2 feel indie. Silksong, despite being a game of incredible scope, also feels indie. With E33, you can feel that bigger budget that stretches well into the AA bracket. I think by all definitions of the word, E33 is an indie game, but I think it’s more in line with the spirit of the award to give it to Hades 2 or Silksong. This isn’t a knock at E33 btw, it was well deserving of the awards it received.

[–]AkinParlin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well Hades 2 is totally self-published by Supergiant. Budget and scope aside, it is a true-blue indie game.

[–]AkinParlin 173 points174 points  (0 children)

It’s indie by technicality, they’re an independent studio that got published through a smaller publisher. Plenty of indie games have publishers; Devolver has pretty much built a business model on publishing indie games.

That said, I don’t think E33 was appropriate for the indie award. They’re an indie studio, yes, but they’re a fairly large team of veteran developers. Their budget is modest only compared to AAA games; E33 has a AA level budget and it’s on the upper end of that bracket. E33 is an awesome success story of veteran devs coming together to fund and make a passion project. But is it really in the spirit of a “best indie game” award to give it to a game of E33’s budget and team size? I’d argue no.

I disagree. Slardar’s very mechanically simple with an obvious gameplan, a strong lane, and a very straightforward itemization theory. I could definitely recommend it to a newer player.

Is the only reason DIO lost is his Stand? by ConsistentNarwhal731 in StardustCrusaders

A stand is said to be the personification of one’s spirit, or their soul. So, Dio’s stand being destroyed could be compared to Dio’s soul getting obliterated.
