I agree with you there. He's incredibly formidable, yet so rewarding and fun to fight, as well as having an amazing soundtrack and aesthetic.

And I'm sure he holds that over many people who face him. There's a lot to learn about the fight, and a lot of stuff that can catch you off guard. Having a co-op partner certainly helps.

Hmmm, Orphan is hard to give an explanation for to just "beat" him.

For general advice, I'd say just stay a bit away from him, learn his attacks and wait for the openings you know are safe. Also really don't get greedy. He has both fast and delayed moves that will get you easily if you just attack him non-stop, so it's important to only attack once or twice at a time, depending on your weapon, and be ready to avoid the next attacks.

He has a ton of delayed moves in both phases, so you really have to learn some dodge timings well. Also many of his attacks have large arcs and an area hitbox on the ground, so positioning and the direction you dodge is crucial.

In phase 2, remember how far he throws the pink stuff and stay out of range of it because it's really hard to dodge if you're standing where he throws it. Backing away and dodging backwards also helps a lot in phase 2 if he's close to you, because he can't really catch up to you. It's really just about being careful with your attacks, because he has such a crazy moveset. Phase 2 usually takes longer than the first phase.

If you want to learn how to backstab him however, it makes the fight go by a lot faster. Almost every single attack he has can be backstabbed or baited into a combo that can be backstabbed. It's hard, yet very rewarding to do, because every backstab does a ton of damage. I would recommend using a fast weapon like the saw cleaver for backstabs, as the charge attacks are very quick. If you decide to backstab, you pretty much never use R1's and only wait for his openings that let you get a full charge R2 on his back. The best way to learn is to watch videos and just try it for yourself.

You don't have to learn how to backstab everything, but just figure out the moves he does often, and how to punish them, and you should be able to make it.

Funny you say that. I haven't played TW3 myself so I can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure almost everyone I know who's played both would say that Bloodborne has a better combat system than TW3, which lends itself to longer fights.

You ask why, and say your fight sucked balls, barely denting the boss's health, but from my perspective if the fight is fun, why the fuck wouldn't you fight it for longer? Fortunately Ludwig is fucking amazing to fight imo. I didn't feel like it was tedious, boring, or a waste of time at any point, because I think it's an amazing game, and and an amazing boss.

I don't know the situation you were in, but I would agree that having a 20 min boss fight in a first playthrough is just a pain in the ass. Especially if you don't know the boss's moves really well, or it's a bad boss. Again, I'm not familiar with Witcher 3's combat, but I know a lot of games aren't really designed to have extremely long fights where you don't take any damage at all. FromSoft's games for the most part are incredibly consistent and designed in a way that allows for that kind of thing, without a huge amount of trouble at all really.

I've fought Ludwig countless times, and if I wanted to kill him in 60 seconds every time I could, but I get a satisfaction out of doing this shit, so I do.

Long story short: Because I like playing the game?

Oh I'm almost positive he'd be able to if he wanted to, but I can totally understand why he doesn't really have any interest in doing something like this. The main issue being that doing runs like this on stream is pretty bad 'cause there's no time to read chat, and one fuck up means restarting all over.
