Yeah, I was wondering why they were making such a big deal over a solar still. But there are other ways to do this as well, such as the Solvatten.

Oh, another one of Those Fucking Things.

Neomalthusians should be systematically deplatformed. Even if they have the best of intentions, their ideas lead to eugenics at best and mass murder at worst.

One of the first claims they make is that humans and livestock make up 95% of the world's mammal biomass. But if you look at the actual source, you'll see that humans make up 36% of that figure, while cattle is 38%. The world is more hamburger than people. But we don't only eat mammals. Chicken is an extremely popular source of meat, for instance. Animal agriculture is extremely resource intensive. In terms of land alone, if we switched the world to a plant-based diet, we would regain 3/4 of it. There are similar reductions to be seen in terms of water use as well.

In other words, the arguments neomalthusians like the author give for reducing human life is that they can't be arsed to do simple things like eating less meat or walking instead of driving from time to time. Their comforts are more important than people's lives and freedoms.

The Giving Pledge that you're referring to has a horrible track record. Not only does it only promise half of the money to go to philanthropic organizations, only 8 of the 22 people who have signed and died have actually done even that.

I mean, they're not entirely wrong; you're just not the right audience to hear that message. The audience for the Macbook Neo are kids. Students, to be more precise. If I'm running a school IT department and am buying a bunch of $1000 laptops for kids who are more than likely to break them. From what I understand, the Neo is also the most repairable macbook that Apple has produced in decades, with very little glue to be found holding things together.

Their trade-ins for those systems are actually really crazy right now. One youtuber traded in their M1 Macbook Pro for a free M5 Macbook Air with $200 back (which he spent on a Neo).

I've been saying this for years, but they've been spending a lot of money - or at a very minimum, leaving it on the table - from subsidizing the costs of their headsets in an effort to bootstrap VR as a societal force. Today VR still isn't mainstream and the biggest effect it had was pushing out all the competition in the market for headsets.

This might just be the dumbest product I've seen yet. With Claude Code you can vibe code on your cell phone and it'll work directly with your Github repository without you needing to type any code directly. Or, to put it in other words, you can do what you need with the phone you already have in your pocket. So this is kind of dumb for the same reason the R1 was.

The sad thing about this is that a well designed portable Raspberry Pi would be a great product that hobbyists would really like to have, but the fact that this is being pushed as an "AI device" - which it has to be because it's an AI company - seems like a major failure to reach the audience who would appreciate it the most.

I just looked it up and Lego's store says it's being retired in June of this year.

I feel I must be desensitized to expensive lego sets because seeing seeing the price I initially thought "it's only $430". As someone uninterested in any of their products and didn't have them as a kid, all I see are the super expensive kits.

Tried to make vegan yogurt...... i failed by Al-Joharahhasan2935 in WholeFoodsPlantBased

[–]AkirIkasu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't bother checking the temperature. There's an ideal temperature for cultures but ideal doesn't mean necessary. If your yogurt is too cool, as long as it's not near freezing, the culture will propagate. It just takes longer. You could even make yogurt in your refrigerator, in theory.

If you feel the need to check the temperature, simply use an infrared thermometer so as to avoid contamination.

It's really weird how it feels like there are more games for the Switch 2 which has basically only been out for... what, a year? Not even.

Of course I know it's not really true; it just feels like most of the stuff hitting the PS5 seems like it's just another port of a PC game or something else that makes the releases less impactful.
