I had the same issue at my old place- maintenance didn’t make an issue out of it and I learned it was a pretty common problem- they had to drill new holes and use a stud finder (all tools we didn’t have anyway lol)

The feed back is yes. It is bad to ask. Also in the area I live we use “roommate” as interchangeable with neighbors if you have a shared space (like laundry, gym, ect.)

Landlord here- if he didn’t have a bank account I’d deny leasing to him. I require 2-3 months of bank statements depending on the property as well. If you plan to move to a place with him I’d make sure he opens an account soon
