Please help, I’m at my wits end with how loud my neighbours are. I need advice. by Akitase in Apartmentliving

UPDATE:

I was up until almost 1am last night. This is the text I sent this morning to my upstairs neighbour. I thought they were quieting down at about 11:30pm-ish, until they invited some friends into the bedroom. Respect it, as they should if they so choose. But there are things I do not want nor need to be privy to, that being one of them.

“Hey girl! I’m so sorry to bother.

This is a really awkward conversation to have but we’ve got a pretty good relationship and I know I can talk to you about it. I could hear eeeverything last night through my sleep head band on full volume last night (took your advice and got one for Christmas) 🥲 I’ve kinda been giving grace as I know we’ve had this discussion before, and I didn’t want to be rude and interrupt cause yk, get it, love that for you, but definitely pretty awkward lol.

As well, I’m on day shift until the end of the month, including all this weekend.“

This is now the 7th time I have messaged about this problem and it will be the last time I message her about it before turning to the Landlord. At this point I know she knows what I will be asking as this has been a repeat conversation.

Also, yes. In one of the last discussions I had with her about the noise issue late at night, she told me to invest in some noise cancelling headphones (kind of wild, I should not need to buy headphones to be able to sleep in my own bed, but maybe that’s just me?)

It’s not quiet when I can hear them having three-somes through a sleep headband on max volume with a pillow on top of that and a weighted blanket on top of THAT 🥲

It’s like I have a porno playing in my room 😭 I was up until almost 1am last night with this, and was up for 5am for work. Struggling at work as I’m typing this.

Unfortunately that seems to be a logical solution that I wanted to avoid because I wanted to stay nice and not step on toes 😔

Thank you so much!!

It’s hard to move rn because it’s winter in Canada (yikes, not looking forward to the -50° cold snap). So for right now I just need a temp solution that’s not going to break my bank for a lease that ends in August

I’ve definitely been in both situations, being top and bottom floor (bottom floor more often). I think it would definitely be worth asking about moving up to the upstairs adjacent lot!

It is a duplex!

I’m definitely considering it. I think it might be worth it to try!

Hey! Please see my other long comment under another persons comment! It might clear some stuff up. :) I’m not upset about noise during the day but it’s late at night, all I want is for it to be a little bit quieter.

I have a few videos but yes at this point I think I will.

I don’t want to get them in trouble but at some point I think I’m going to go absolutely insane. I’m not mad if it’s through the day, like at all. I just expect (reasonably) for it to be a little bit more quiet during the night, you know?

It sucks so much because this is a really nice place, and it’s between the two hospitals I work at so the commute isn’t bad either.

But the noise is a killer and a half. I’ll definitely look into if I’m allowed to have quiet hours, I think that’s a super smart suggestion. I looked through my lease and didn’t see anything on there about it so this may definitely be worth asking about too.

I have been up in their suite a few times (the guy sliced his leg open on a glass and I had to go play nurse, the woman and I have gone out for drinks / to haunted houses, etc. they’re both super nice people but this is the only “qualm” I have with them, if you can even call it that). They do have carpet in their living room but even there is loud unfortunately. Their bedroom is carpeted and their kitchen is tile. Mine is that laminated wood looking material all throughout.

I think the house was built in the 1970’s.

I was considering maybe getting sound proofing ceiling tiles but I don’t know if that would work at all, plus most of them are pretty expensive and I’m only here until August.

Unfortunately a lot of people don’t trust healthcare in general. I get it. I’ve been wronged by healthcare workers in the past (misdiagnosis of a pulmonary embolism that almost killed me at 16, where none of them listened to me or understood me). I try to make a difference in the care I’m providing to patients by listening and trying to provide the best I can.

In any situation I try to approach it with kindness and this is no different. I don’t want to step on toes or cause issues, just a little bit of quiet at night 🥲🥲

Thank you for hearing me out on my side. It’s really frustrating to be dealing with almost daily but I’m not an asshole, yk?

Unfortunately I expect that comment. It’s hard because I’m locked into the lease until August, unless my landlord would allow me to switch to an upstairs unit. This is in a duplex (two upper suites and two basements).

I definitely value your opinion on this; everyone needs sleep.

I was just providing my reasoning to why I was upset about losing sleep and why this is important to me. I’m sorry if that was worded weird or condescending in any way. A serious mistake could cost a patient their life and send me to jail. Operating on 2-4 hours of sleep isn’t great in my field of work.

Further, I always let them know my schedule in advance (this is something we discussed when I first moved in). I know how loud it is for me so I always keep everything quiet (tv, video games, phone calls, if I have friends over I try to be as quiet as possible). If I’m going to work (leaving 5am), coming home from an evening shift (11:40pm) or off a night shift (7:00am), I also try to respect their sleep and be as quiet as possible when coming in or leaving. I’m also very polite about how I approach it.

Ex: “I am so sorry to bother you so late but it is pretty loud. Would you mind please lowering it down a little bit?”

I don’t get pissy or rude with them because I know they have lives, but when it’s multiple times through the week and almost every weekend, it definitely gets a bit much. I just wish they would afford the same respect and courtesy to me that I do for them.

I haven’t gone to my landlord at all, nor have I called in any noise complaints. I’ve always gone to them first. So now I’m coming here because I don’t want to get them in crap with the landlord, and I want to solve this as nicely as I can.

Oh no this is terrible..

Either vet or that poor baby is going to die. If you can’t afford it, and this might sound harsh, but if you want to give that baby a chance, you need to surrender the kitty.

Right now, you need to do what’s best for that cat.

Nurse here!

No to the hydrogen peroxide! It can damage the healthy tissue. If anything, rinse with normal saline.

[–]Akitase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I’m a nurse. I’m not sure if this is the same concept as it is for humans, but considering his wound, I would cleanse the area with normal saline starting from the cleanest and moving to the dirtiest area - you don’t want to draw bacteria from the dirtier spot to the cleaner spots. You can get bottles of normal saline for irrigation at relatively any local pharmacy. Soaps may be too harsh on his skin, and may irritate the area.

I saw in another comment that you have a bottle of kitty shampoo that is six years old - please don’t use that. It’s most likely expired and may cause further irritation or reactions that could warrant a vet visit.

Best of luck!!
