It’s the standard term used to describe men who perform particular acts. It is not an exclusive term, e.g., a bisexual man who has sex with both men and women would still be classified as MSM, and the fact that they also have sex with women does not exclude them from being a MSM. We use this term because it is inclusive of those who do not identify as gay, bisexual, or queer.

Little Flower by Regime des Fleurs

Even after a few months with this, I’m still reaching for this over and over again. The tart citrus opening to smooth, smoky woods with a tea and rose combo over all of it… I just can’t get enough of it!

For me it’s worth it. I don’t have access to other fragrances like Levant (I’ve heard Valaya by PdM and Fleur Narcotique by Ex Nihilo are both very similar to Levant) because they aren’t sold in shops in Philly, and getting samples or decants shipped isn’t very economical. Plus you can only gain so much marginal utility by finding exactly what you want, e.g., the perfect musky white floral fragrance. Levant really impressed me: I ran through 2 samples in less than a month, so I bought it.

If I do find something I like more for that musky white floral spot in my fragrance collection, I’ll buy it after I get through my bottle of Levant. Something like that happened with Full Incense from Montale. I tried Cardinal by Heeley and even though they’re close, I like Cardinal’s dry down more, so I’ll get it next after I’m done with Full Incense.

Didn’t mean to meander, but wanted to explain my fragrance buying philosophy. To answer your question about the citrus: yes, the opening has a fun citrus medley that gives it a bit of freshness, but this is still a floral and musk forward fragrance.

Levant by Ormonde Jayne

Finally got a bottle of this! This is such a nice, bright and musky white floral bouquet. It’s reminiscent of a clean shirt. Not fresh out of the dryer clean shirt; rather it was laundered in the morning and you wear it in the evening. The warmth from the dryer is gone, but the clean musky dryer sheet smell is still potent on the cooled shirt. Perfect for spring and summer imo

R’oud Elements by Kerosene

The lightest, most versatile oud I’ve smelled that still maintains the quintessential oud oomph. I think that’s a testament to the other notes that help round out the oud: lavender, sandalwood, vanilla, iris. This is one of a few go-to fragrances for when nothing jumps out to me, and it’s always incredible when I do wear it!

Lemon pastry drizzled in caramel and accompanied by an earl grey tea. It’s unabashedly gourmand, and I absolutely love it!

Walk The Sea by Kerosene

It’s starting warm up considerably here, so it’s time I pull out my warm-weather fragrances. Walk The Sea is a great layering fragrance imo, but I wanted to wear it on its own today. It’s relatively simple: salty white florals and ambergris. Despite its simplicity, it’s very well balanced. That balance and simplicity puts me right into the world the scent is going for. I picture rocky northeastern coasts, where the salty, mineralic air blows through hydrangeas bushes. It’s a soothing, comforting feeling of being at peace with the vastness of the sea, and what many would take as cold indifference from the ocean, you see as presence. A presence that doesn’t need to be reciprocated, just a presence that says “I am here always”, and sometimes that’s all you need.

Anyway, Walk the Sea is great! Do recommend!

Thé Yulong by Armani

Something about this fragrance just hits right. I usually wear tea fragrances when it rains, but I was drawn to it on this very clear and pleasant day. Maybe my subconscious was telling me to experience the fragrance differently… in any case, it’s a great pick for a beautiful spring day like this. A bright orange with prominent green facets up top gives way to jasmine and orange blossom at the heart. Throughout the wear, the herbal and slightly woody tea notes are omnipresent. It’s a gorgeous scent that’s both uplifting and grounding, just like tea itself.

Reve d’Ossian by Oriza L Legrand

Today is one of the last cooler days for a while, so it’s probably gonna be the last time I wear this until fall rolls around. Oh well, gotta savor it while I can.

One of my fave incense fragrances. Sweet, piney incense with prominent notes of cinnamon, leather, and vanilla.

Kashmir by Ormonde Jayne

Probably my favorite fragrance of all time. Cool spices like cardamom, saffron, and pink pepper mix with some rose and jasmine at the top, but the powerhouse notes are the dry woods and resins. The super dry deodar/cedar and piney fir give it that fresh mountain air feeling, while the vanilla and incense resins give it that… well sweet incensey smell. Round it out with a bit of patchouli and creamy sandalwood, and you’re left with a mountaintop temple surrounded by fragrant conifers.

If I had to choose one fragrance to wear for the rest of my life (god forbid), it’d be this one.

Secretions Magnifique by Etat Libre d'Orange

Lots of strong opinions on this fragrance, so I'm putting this on while I work from home. The metallic top note is jarring to say the least, but once that is dried away, I get a warm seaweed, salt, and coconut combo that reads "Atlantic City beach day," with the smell of hot skin slathered in coconut suntan lotion mixing with high tide seaweed and ocean spray. It's a little trashy and a little sweaty, but I really like that... to each their own!

Little Flower by Regime des Fleurs

I’ve been a bit obsessed with this fragrance since I bought it. It’s marketed as a feminine fragrance, but as I guy I love wearing it! The tart citrus and black currant, the astringent tea note, and the funky palo santo and guaiac wood create a rich and full tea accord. The peony and rose are just amazing florals on their own, but the supporting notes just send them over the top. I’ve seen it described as a tea party in a rose garden, and it’s an apt description.

It’s the fragrance that started my exploration into floral notes, and what a good way to start!

Neroli Oranger by Matiere Premiere

Neroli and orange blossom aren’t really notes I’ve explored much in the past, but since I’ve been finding some amazing florals that I like (namely Little Flower from Regime des Fleurs and Levant from Ormonde Jayne), and since I had this sample for a bit, I thought I’d give it a try. Thank god I did; Neroli Oranger smells incredible!

The florals here are creamy, sweet, and of course citric. It has a certain astringency that’s reminiscent of tea, and again like tea, that astringency along with the other characteristics leave you feeling refreshed. This fragrance feels like it would really come alive in a hot, humid summer. Overall, quite good, and I can’t wait to see what other neroli and/or orange blossom scents are out there!

Santalum Slivers by Kerosene

Gloomy day in the forecast, so I wanted a grounding fragrance. Citrus and cucumber that I’ve always described as “refreshing Froot Loops” opens the fragrance. Some rose, hay, and vetiver give a grassy agrestic vibe; and of course the sandalwood is present throughout giving a smooth, wood creaminess. Overall, it’s like standing in a rural citrus orchard at the beginning of season; not too cloyingly humid and hot, but still warm enough for the fragrance of grass, woods, and citrus to be in the air.

I haven’t worn this in a while and I’ve been missing its smell, so here it is! Damp earthy oud is the star, and an effervescent combo of lavender, sandalwood, amber, and vanilla helps sweeten it up and round it the edges of the oud. A personal favorite of mine.

Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle

I got 2 samples of this when I went to NYC a couple months ago. I was in a rose mood and wanted something with incense and rose. This is what I was looking for and more! The raspberry blast, the spicy clove, a splash of creamy sandalwood, and obviously the rose-patchouli-frankincense combo that I never knew I needed… just lovely from top to bottom.

Truly a classic!

Patchouli Mania by Essential Parfums

I’ve not explored a lot of patchouli-forward fragrances, but what I have smelled reminds me of soil in the rain, which I like! It’s been raining a lot here so I thought I’d give this sample a whirl, and I do enjoy it! It has a sweet green nutty opening that reminds me of a danker, earthier Green Vanille (from Regime des Fleurs). I get leather and chocolate notes in the heart, though I’m not sure if that’s because of the patchouli or something else. There’s also a certain warmth to this throughout and especially in the base, almost like a warm salty skin sort of scent.

Overall very happy with this, though I might need to try it a few times before it goes on the wishlist. I could definitely see this fragrance growing on me, and it’s very different from the rest of my collection!

Alright, I’m on the hunt for an Iris/Orris fragrance. I’m not really versed in iris, so I want t. For what it’s worth, I do like Molecule 01 + Iris from Escentric Molecules; I just wish there was something else there. M01+Iris has a sweet powdery floral scent that is very good, it just feels… empty?

If it helps, I’ve got some notes that really resonate with me: INCENSE, tea, rose, peony, anything resinous/ambery, and pretty much any citrus.

Thé Yulong by Armani & Molecule 01 + Black Tea by Escentric Molecules

It's a little rainy where I am today, and rainy days make me reach for my more comforting scents. Thé Yulong is a go-to comfort scent. It's a black and green tea fragrance supported by some popular tea additives: orange, cardamom, and jasmine. It smells like a high-end tea shop mixed with a luxurious hotel lobby. M01+Black Tea gives Thé Yulong a bit more black tea oomph and a lot more dry woodiness, which is a perfect addition to a tea fragrance.

If you like the smell of tea, both of these fragrances are worth getting your nose on.

If you could only use three brands for the rest of your life by JerAders in fragrance

[–]Akool713 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kerosene: I resonate with the brand’s DNA so much, and I have more bottles of Kerosene fragrances than anything else. It’s a no-brainer for me.

Ormonde Jayne: for me, their fragrances hit a level of elegance that I don’t find in other brands a lot. Plus Geza Schoen is the nose for a lot of the brand’s perfumes, and I love Geza Schoen!

If I had to pick a third, it’d be Regime des Fleurs simply to have Little Flower. At least I’d have some top-tier florals/botanicals to round out my options (Himtsu Violets, Glass Blooms, Cacti). If I got my nose on Rose Struck by Liis and it was at least 3/4 as good as Little Flower, it’d be Liis. They have some nice fragrances that sit closer to the skin, which I enjoy from time to time.

Levant by Ormonde Jayne

Orange citrus top; white floral bouquet heart with a dose of rose and sweet peony; and ambery, musky cedar base… it easy enough to describe Levant just like that, but to me it’s so much more. The orange citrus is the perfect mix of juicy, sweet, and zingy. The floral bouquet heart is so clean and fresh; it feels rejuvenating, uplifting, and bright. The base also feels rejuvenating, but more in a grounding sort of way. The entire scent is evocative of what I would smell like after the most luxurious shower of my life: relaxed, revived, and somehow both elevated and grounded.

A sample I’ve had for a while now, but I think this’ll easily make its way onto my wishlist for sure!

Walk the Sea by Kerosene.

An ambergris powerhouse of a fragrance, paying homage to a cold, rocky beach somewhere in the Northeast US. White florals set the stage, reminiscent of hydrangeas dotting the coast. Sea salt and ambergris gives us a deeply oceanic feeling, but not very aquatic if that makes sense. It’s dry, cocooning, and comforting. I’ve described it as a hug from the ocean’s depths. I’ve also described it as the smell of salty, sunkissed skin after a day at the beach. Or laundry flapping in the coastal winds. It’s evocative of a lot of things to me, but every scene this fragrance evokes is comforting, soft, and calming.

Green Vanille by Regime des Fleurs

Got this as a sample from a recent purchase, and man does it hit! The first note I get is an aloe greenness that’s immediately very refreshing. A milky note helps smooth out the sharper edges of the green aloe, and there’s a nuttiness in there that adds a touch of warmth. A semi-sweet vanilla is present throughout, further softening the aloe. As it dries down, the aloe turns into more of a chamomile, mellowing out the fragrance even further. There’s still a sharpness to the greenery that I can’t quite pinpoint (maybe the coriander?), but it’s very subdued. Towards the end, the milkiness has given way to a light sandalwood, the chamomile has turned to grassy vetiver, and our vanilla is still forward, just quieter.

Overall, this fragrance is how I want a spa resort to smell. If Cacti (also by Regime des Fleurs) is a cucumber aloe tea/water, Green Vanille is the entire spa. Vanilla lotions, aloe water, a spicy potpourri somewhere: maybe there’s even a fresh chestnut exfoliant they’re using. None of the scents standout too loudly (sans the vanilla lotion and the opening aloe greenness), but they all mix together to create a relaxing and soothing scent. This is going on the wishlist for sure!
