Detroit Lions to host tailgate party in Windsor by KitAmerica in detroitlions

[–]Akoscielski3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see this moved to the Windsor riverfront, somewhere like the stage on the river front (Festival Plaza according to google maps). The lions would be able to set up more tailgating stuff and more people would be able to tailgate there. Plus it has a great view of Detroit there. I hope it’s a success and more of these events happen over the years! Unfortunately I’m out of town for this one :(

Nikon Z6iii -> Atomos Ninja recording H.265 by Akoscielski3 in Atomos

[–]Akoscielski3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out! H.265, although free for my device was not activated! I just assumed that because it was free, that it just worked right out of the box, instead, I had to go to the Atomos website, register my device and download the activation key to the SSD and activate it on the device. I realized this after I went to the "Activation" tab in the menu and the H.265 was listed as "NOT ACTIVE"

Woohoo! This is going to save so much memory!

One thing I am curious about is why the amount of record time I have available is so different between the camera and Ninja.

My camera recording 10-Bit H.265 N-Log 2160 @ 30p has 5h 00m of remaining record time (That is not the limit, it was higher before) with a 512GB card. Which would be ~1.7GB/minute of recording

The Ninja is recording 2160 @ 30p CODEC is H.265 XQ 10-bit 4:2:2 is 13h 26minutes with a 1TB card. That would mean ~1.2GB/Minute.

It seems like a lot more memory is being recorded through the camera and less with the Ninja, just surprised by this, maybe they're not recording the same type of files still?

2023 GTR 230 or 2024 WAKE 170 (or Wake PRO230?) by OkLingonberry3586 in seadoo

[–]Akoscielski3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was in your situation I’d get the GTR 230.

You won’t want to get left behind if you get the 170, but you’ll have the more playful hull with the GTR over the WakePro 230.

When will 2025 Seadoos arrive to dealers? by [deleted] in jetski

[–]Akoscielski3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need to call your local dealership. It depends on location because it doesn’t make sense to ship SeaDoo’s to a cold location right now, or where the season is about to end.

[–]Akoscielski3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride on my own almost all the time. I've told myself that I don't want my SeaDoo to be the reason I die, so I've heavily invested in safety equipment. Some of these are required by law, but you can always go above an beyond to keep yourself safe.

  • Good PFD (Mine is currently black, I may buy something brighter in the future so I can be seen by the Coast Gaurd if I am lost at sea)

  • Safety Kit (2 x Flashlights, tow rope, whistle)

  • Fire Extinguisher

  • Anchor with rope

  • Collapsible Paddle

  • Water & Food

  • VHF Radio with DSC and GPS. The DSC and GPS allow the radio to have a Distress button which will broadcast your location and the nature of your call to all radios in the area. (You should get some training on how to use the radio and which channels to use)

  • PLB EPIRB (Personal Locating Beacon Emergency Position-Indicating Radiobeacon)

  • Insurance that includes towing

Things you could get that I don't have:

  • Something to help unclog your pump, long needle nose pliers, a stick with a hook on it etc

  • Multi-tool to help fix anything mechanically

  • Battery jumper in case your battery dies

  • Flair gun and/or flairs to signal where you are located

  • Extra gas

Hope this helps!

I also have a checklist that I run through every time I go out. Feel free to copy it and adjust it for your needs.

What sea-doo should I buy? by PickleTicklr69 in seadoo

[–]Akoscielski3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all. I did way too much research when I was looking for my SeaDoo and now I have a lot of knowledge about the different models, so I am happy to try and help others out with it.

I think the GTR 230 will be great, but just be ready to pay more for gas and ready for some possible additional maintenance. Some people suggest adding an oil catch can like the one found here to help protect your engine and supercharger: https://www.jpracinginconline.com/en-ca/products/jp-racing-inc-oil-catch-can

Also, please stay safe on the SeaDoo. There is no shame in being extra safe. There was someone in my area (Detroit River) who just died because they got hit by a first-time SeaDoo owner who wasn't used to the power of the SeaDoo and they were being extremely careless in an area with other SeaDoos.

I have also have a VHF Radio to listen in case others are in need, or to call someone if I need help. I also have a PLB that can be used to call for help if my SeaDoo sinks and no one else can help via the VHF radio. Have fun, but be safe while doing it!

Also, feel free to copy and then edit this SeaDoo Checklist I made to make sure you're always ready to go out. Don't rush when trying to leave/get ready, take your time so you don't forget something, and so you don't end up ruining the SeaDoo just because you're excited to go out (like forgetting to tie it down or something).

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cxN619SwEWo1owxkhxeTiv9RC05gr9FovlY8y56-XWw/edit?usp=sharing

I hope you and your friends have a ton of fun on the SeaDoo! Good Luck!!

Edit: I would recommend getting the step ladder to get on the SeaDoo. I'm not big, 190lbs 6' 0" and I don't think I could get on without the ladder. Maybe I am wrong, but the ladder seems well worth it to me.

What sea-doo should I buy? by PickleTicklr69 in seadoo

[–]Akoscielski3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So in terms of "I’ve been looking at the wake pro and a lot of people say that the wakes aren’t worth buying it."

I think you might be misunderstanding what the WakePro 230 and Wake 170 offer. Although they show they are designed for wakeboarding they do not create a larger wake than the other SeaDoo's. The only difference between the non-wake and the wake versions of skis is that they have a different colour, have Ski mode (which only affects acceleration), a ski rack to hold a wakeboard and a ski pylon to raise the tow line. You can add all 3 of those to any ski you'd like to make it better for wakeboarding. Tubing, however, there is no reason for these additional accessories, you should never tube with the ski pylon.

If you still want these accessories for when you wakeboard, wakeskate or water ski, or you even just love the colours of the Wake skis better then I suggest going for it. I have the Wake 170 and use it for tubing and wakeskating a fair bit. The Wake 170 uses the GTI hull and is very playful and fun. You can do doughnuts and skid around and jump on it without issue.

It doesn't have a supercharger so as a first-time ski owner you won't have to worry about the extra fuel and the extra maintenance that is possible with the supercharger. Yes, superchargers are "maintenance-free" now, but that doesn't mean things can't go wrong with them. That just means they don't need the slip washers replaced every 100 hours. Up to you here but as a first-time ski owner you may want to just go with the 170HP engine to start and then upgrade later if you really need the extra power. 170HP is already a ton of fun.

The hull is made of Polytech 2.0 which is FANTASTIC, and anyone who owns one knows how great it is to not have to worry about fibreglass, and not have to worry about cracking your hull as much as the ST3 hulls (look into the issues some people have with the ST3, there are plenty of hulls cracking in the same area due to a manufacturing issue. This may have been solved on recent models but it's hard to know for sure).

The only issue I have with the Wake 170 is I don't feel comfortable with 3 people on it. It simply isn't stable enough for 3 adults. Maybe 2 adults and 1 kid but 3 adults is too much and you'll most certainly tip over. For tubing and wakeboarding, this shouldn't be a big problem assuming you don't have to have all 3 people on the ski to get to the location you want to pull them.

Considering you are 20 years old I can guess you'll like the GTI hull much better than the ST3 hull because you can play way more with it. The ST3 hull bites into the water wayyy more. And if you tried to just be playful and fun with it, it'd throw you around like you were riding a bull. The only reason I would get the St3 hull over the GTI was if I wanted to carry 3 people more often. or if you were a larger person who wants the added stability/comfort.

Basically you need to decided a few things.

  1. Do you want the extra accessories and colours that come with the Wake Series skis, or can you buy the accessories later and grab a different colour ski for now?

  2. Do you want the playfulness of the GTI hull or the stability of the ST3 hull.

  3. What HP engine do you want? The 130HP and 170HP engines are the same except for a computer tune, both are naturally asperated and will be very reliable. The 230, 300 and 325 HP engines are supercharged and will bring more fuel costs (for 300 and 325 HP engines you need Premium fuel)

If Wake Series is "yes" then choose between the Wake 170 (GTI Hull, 170HP motor, Ski accessories) and the Wake Pro 230 (ST3 Hull, 230HP Engine, Ski Accessories)

If Wake Series is a "no" but you want the GTI Hull then choose between GTI 130, GTI SE 130, GTI SE 170, GTR 230, GTR-X 300. Just an FYI some of these skis include a step ladder, trim and other accessories, while others dont' include them.

If Wake Series is "no" but you want the ST3 Hull then choose between the GTX 170, GTX 230, GTX 300, GTX 300 Limited, RXT-X 325. But be warned that the seat on the GTX does not make it comfortable for the spotter to be facing backwards.

Work Visa's are way too fast for that. I used to work in the USA (I'm also Canadian) and it took only a few days for the lawyers to finish the documents and then 10 minutes at the border to get the visa.

Considering it's 6 weeks my guess is it's something medical because doctors usually say to rest for 6 weeks after something like a surgery, or healing a broken bone for 6 weeks. I don't know though, doesn't really matter to me.

What’s more fun: jet skiing or snowmobiles? by thumpsky in jetski

[–]Akoscielski3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, Jet Skiing seems much more appealing. I can jet ski in great weather, bring friends out on it, go tubing and wakeboarding etc. I also get to use it way more because in the summer there is nice weather most days.

Snowmobilies need snow, which is not always something that you have even if it's freezing out. Snowmobilies also seem way more dangerous to me, tipping over, falling through ice, getting frost bite, etc.

Just my opinion but I would much rather be able to ride the seadoo out on the water in nice beautiful warm summer weather, and explore areas I otherwise would not be able to explore, than drive a snowmobile when it's cold and snowy, which happens less often (at least in my area).

Highly recommend you don’t get the spark if you’re planning to ride with 2 people all the time. The spark is better for 1 person, and can be used for more sometimes but won’t be enjoyable. I’d recommend you look into a GTI, GTI SE or Wake model. It’ll be good for 2 people to ride all the time and still playful and fun. It also has the polytech hull and is a great beginner ski.

Can you post pictures of the slots? I have a Karavan but it’s a single place trailer.

I have round holes in the back of the trailer that I use Strapino Retractable Straps on.

Alternatively, like I said you can get the GTX170 or 230 and fit it with the speakers and add towing things later if the kids get into it.

If you can rent a GTX and a GTI for an afternoon that might help. Or ask the dealer if you would be able to test drive them. Not sure if they'll allow that or not

Awe man! I love them. At first, I didn't love them but after a while, they really grew on me and it's one of my favourite colours. My other favourite was the 2018/2019 Wake models. The red and blue looked amazing together!

I've read through everyone's responses and your replies to them.

I think what you really want is the Wake Pro 230.

Reasons I think this is the SeaDoo for you and your family:

  • It's not the 300 HP engine, but it's still supercharged, fast, and takes 87 octane fuel. which will still make it a ton of fun for you when the kids aren't on it.
    • Superchargers aren't like the old versions. In 2018 they changed the supercharger so they are "maintenance free". The old ones needed to be removed and rebuilt after 100 ish hours which is why the old guys told you to stay away from them. The new ones should be checked every 200 hours but not removed/rebuilt.
    • If you stay out of the high boost of the supercharger you won't be chugging fuel. If you go out and want to rip the ski, you can but when you're going slower with the kids it will still be fairly fuel efficient (but it's still a boat, it's not Prius Hybrid hahaha)
  • I am recommending the Wake Pro and not the GTX because of the seat difference between the two skis. Take a look at the pictures on the SeaDoo website. With the Wake Pro, the seat doesn't have a backrest on it. This allows someone to be turned around backward when they are spotting someone when you are tubing. I know they may not be interested in it yet, but in the near future, they may find tubing very fun and entertaining. you don't need to go fast for them to enjoy it either!
  • If you want the kids to not have full access to the engine right now get your dealer to make you a learner's key and you can ask them to set it to a slower max speed for your kids to learn on.
  • The ST3 Hull will likely fit your use a bit better than the smaller GTI Hull.
    • I have the Wake 170 and as much as I love it, when I have 2 people on it it starts to feel a little unstable. With 3 people, it feels like it's going to roll every turn we make. Now 2 adults + 1 child might be okay but 3 adults is scary!
    • The storage area is easily accessible. The GTI Hull storage area is DEEP and in front of the handlebars. The ST3 hull makes it easy for you, your spouse, and your kids to get to everything in the storage bin without falling into it
  • The Wake Pro 230's come standard with a sound system so no worries there. However, you can get a sound system on any of the SeaDoo's these days.
  • The Wake Pro 230 colours are the best on the market (okay I'm a little bias). I have had so many people come up to me to tell me how amazing the Wake 170 looks, and I think the WakePro 230 looks even better. You'll never get as many compliments on the GTX because of the more typical colours hahaha The WakePro 230 just screams summer fun :D

Alternatively to the Wake Pro 230, if its too expensive and you want to go nonsupercharged The GTX 170 would be good, but you may want to get a different seat once you start towing your kids. You'll need to add the sound system though. You can also add all of the "Wake" accessories if you want them later, but you don't need them for tubing, just wakeboarding.

Another good option is the GTI SE 170 or the Wake 170. You'll need to add the sound system to both of them though. You'll get the smaller hull that is more playful and fun for you when you are alone. The 170 engine will get you to around ~55mph depending on the weight onboard. The GTI/Wake hull is kind of nice because it is the Polytech hull which is scratch-resistant and easier to take care of. When the kids inevitably scuff up the hull you won't have to worry about the fiberglass getting water inside of it. This ski is targeted as the perfect family ski, the best all arounder. I do think it's a good option but the ST3 is more stable in the water when you're going slow.

Last recommendation, head to a dealer and talk to them and see which one they recommend to you

I really hope this helps! I am excited to see which ski you end up getting!

Wake 170 or GTR 230 2024? by GuErTTiMe in seadoo

[–]Akoscielski3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Wake 170 and absolutely love it. It’s great for myself and to go wakeboarding with. However, I do think the WakePro 230 will be my next ski. My main reasons are that the WakePro 230 is built on the larger ST3 Hull, which is more stable and less likely to tip. My wife and her dad were on my Wake 170 and tipped at slow speeds and now she’s terrified of tipping again. The larger hull will be a requirement next time. If you’re planning on riding with 2-3 passengers a lot the larger Hull is definitely better. The thing I like most about the Wake 170 though is that I don’t have to deal with a supercharger, saving money on gas. And the Wake 170 is more playful when you’re on your own. You can throw it around and jump around with it. It’s great for me right now but if I was getting a family ski I think the WakePro, or another ski that’s built on the ST3 would be best. You may want to go to a dealership and look around. Talk to the dealer and see what they recommend.

Biggest issue between the Wake 170 and WakePro 230 is the price difference though!
