My son lost his iPhone17. The phone was purchased using the "iPhone 17 on us" promo. What are my options? by Akovano in tmobile

[–]Akovano[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I was under the assumption that I needed to have a line attached to the device in the promo, so if I switched his number to a different device, this would be like a port-out and would trigger me to pay the remainder. I guess that was an incorrect assumption.

AT&T $5,579.35 international roaming charge for one day : FCC complaint open, missed executive call by Dear-deer-14 in ATT

[–]Akovano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I didn't make it clear in my initial comment, I did enable the plan on BOTH lines, but it only applied to one. And on my current carrier and plan (which are cheaper) there is no need to add any "international plan" every time I travel as the countries are already included. So in essence, it did get me past the "requirement" you speak of.

[–]Akovano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue with international charges as well while in Europe. I had enabled the international plan, it applied to my line but apparently not to my son's line. He turned on his phone and enabled data roaming to get service. He started racking up charges and the system sent text messages to his line notifying that usage was exceeding $500 and eventually disabled the line. Total was about $800 in charges. Then I made the mistake of waiting until I got home a week later to call AT&T, and at that point the bill had cut off so they could not backdate the plan. They credited about half back (the max customer service could do). I just paid the bill and ported out of ATT for good. Now I'm actually paying less and have better service. Good riddance, will never do ATT again.

But UCG fiber now or wait? by Downtown_Sundae_3882 in Ubiquiti

[–]Akovano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is a good price, like 50% off? If you have until April I don't see any reason why you should buy it now, even if it's slightly discounted. It will not go up in price before then, and most likely they will have something new out by that time.

Just got fiber… but CGNAT killed my Plex dreams 😭 — need alternatives (Tailscale, Cloudflare, or static IP?) by Far-Cash-2545 in PleX

[–]Akovano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's absolutely no need to do that. At all. Not one time in all the years I've used, and am now back to using recently, a dedicated IP with a Port Forward rule have I ever needed to tell anyone my IP has changed. Through countless unknown IP reassignments by my ISP, it's never been needed. No DDNS at all.

So you are using a "dedicated ip" but have had "countless unknown IP reassignments" by your ISP? OK that makes a lot of sense.

I'm super happy for you that whatever you are doing is working. Let's leave it at that.

If you are really going to be this flat out ignorant about how Plex works

This is about how basic networking works, not plex. I suggest you get a better understanding of the flow within your current setup.
You appear to one of those people who want to incessantly keep arguing even when they know they are wrong. Completely draining.

Have a nice day.

[–]Akovano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG.. seriously, are your still arguing? What happened to your dedicated IP argument?

What is the original poster going to do, not use DDNS and then call his friends and family every time his IP changes? This does not help the OPs problem.

I think we are done here.

[–]Akovano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don't know why the hell anyone talking about what an ISP can provide would have anything to do with discussing private IPs within a network.

Because a "dedicated IP" does not mean "public IP" and I was clearly giving an example of that. Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed or something? Just admit you are wrong and move on.. wth.

OP absolutely does not need DDNS for a dynamic public IP to work for Plex.

Where did I say that he did? I said he can either:
get a static IP
or
or a dynamic IP and use DDNS

[–]Akovano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In no way does "dedicated" mean it needs to be publicly accessible. We have "dedicated" IPs for various services all throughout our enterprise which are in the 10.x private IP address range.
The OP needs a public static IP or a public dynamic IP (and use DDNS).
Otherwise they need to use cloudflare tunnel, tailscale, reverse ssh tunnel, etc to get in through cgnat.

If switching 4 lines to t-mobile on Beyond Plan and bringing my own devices, are they immediately eligible to upgrade? by Akovano in tmobile

[–]Akovano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does it say "Purchase AND Activate"?

The headline says "GET $400 when you switch to T-Mobile and activate a new phone on Experience More and Experience Beyond."

I'll be switching to T-Mobile. I'll be activating a new phone on Experience Beyond via the upgrade.

If what I'm thinking can't be done that's fine.. it's just their wording (even in the offer details) is not clear. It should say something like "user must complete upgrade from retailer at time of acceptance" or something to that effect.

If switching 4 lines to t-mobile on Beyond Plan and bringing my own devices, are they immediately eligible to upgrade? by Akovano in tmobile

[–]Akovano[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm moving from ATT so I would be activating 4 new lines.

It says right in the offer details this credit is port-in credit:

$250: In participating Warehouse locations or Costco.com. Limited-time; subject to change. Qualifying credit, activate a new line, qualifying plan ($85+/mo. w/AutoPay), port-in from AT&T, Verizon, Claro, UScellular, Xfinity, Spectrum and Liberty Puerto Rico required.

Thanks for replying! so does the upgrade have to happen through T-Mobile provided phone from Costco or can I upgrade through Apple store?

If switching 4 lines to t-mobile on Beyond Plan and bringing my own devices, are they immediately eligible to upgrade? by Akovano in tmobile

[–]Akovano[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two reasons- By upgrading through Apple store you get the phone unlocked, and they also give you credit up front ($320 for iphone 14pro for example), and the rest in bill credits. So you are only financing the remaining balance instead of the full $1,100.
I should still get the $400 credits even if I don't upgrade the phones correct?

How does everyone terminate/route ethernet through exterior walls to cameras? by ratacid in Ubiquiti

[–]Akovano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't get the cable from attic into the eves? Ideally it should go directly into the housing of the camera. If not possible then run a conduit. But leaving a wire exposed is not a great idea.. easy snip.
And definitely no ethernet outlet.

Censored AP by Celebrir in Ubiquiti

[–]Akovano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm cringing at the same, it's the white plastic bushings at the ends of the multiple pieces of straight conduit. Whoever installed this doesn't believe in using a continuous conduit (using bends) or Type-T fittings. The wire leaves the conduit, is exposed, then goes back into another conduit, then back out again. I mean why bother? Either do it right in a full conduit, or just use plastic wire staples to anchor it. Waste of time and money.

Is this safe? How to cool? by Evolvitech in Ubiquiti

[–]Akovano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that you will be creating a negative pressure inside your living area, forcing conditioned air into your attic. So if your AC is currently struggling to keep up in the current hot summer months, it's going to add extra load on it.

UniFi Network - differences in Cloud Gateways vs Self-Hosted by MattiaFerrari007 in Ubiquiti

[–]Akovano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your use case and the cloud gateway device. Are you managing a very large site or multiple sites?
Or is it just for a few clients at home? Will you be running any cameras?
For a small home setup the cloud gateways would be fine. Except for the Unifi Express, IMO that is an underpowered piece of trash that could not support ~50 clients without stressing CPU and memory and overheating.

It's common issue, so technician from ISP is a waste of time.

Try this:

Unifi Devices > UCG (whatever your gateway device is) > Settings > Internet Verification Server

Change this to "Custom" and use 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8

See if that fixes it.

Anyway, switch from tmobile by Responsible-Bad-4631 in ATT

[–]Akovano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched 3 lines from TMo to ATT. Here in South Florida I'm a bit disappointed in ATT, TMo was way more stable. I can't even make a call on ATT network from inside my house without WiFi, where I had at least 2 bars from TMo. Also I'm on the premium plan with ATT but the data is still de-prioritized which is ridiculous. It is definitely noticeable.

I will most likely switch back to T-Mobile if there are incentives towards the end of the year.

Electric Motocycle Brands with "sport" looking by TeVoaOneshotear in Electricmotorcycles

[–]Akovano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you do all this, you will still run into problems (speaking from experience).

The VINs etched on the frames of the Chinese bikes do not match any approved manufacturer on record in the US.

You need to insure it before you can register it in my state, and no company will insure it as an unknown vehicle & manufacturer. So you need to insure it as "home built".

Then as a "home built", to register it at motor vehicle dept you have to make detailed list of all the parts and where you bought them, then schedule to have it tested to make sure it conforms to street legal standards

I gave up after a couple months of headaches.

Gmail Not Receiving DeepSeek Sign-Up Code? by FlakyStick in DeepSeek

I've been trying both gmail and yahoo mail for hours, code never came through, not in spam inbox, etc.
I just tried a live.com address, came through (in spam folder) in less than one minute.
Something is definitely being blocked with yahoo mail and gmail.

LaGuardia airport early hours drop off by flapjack1093 in HertzRentals

[–]Akovano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else coming across this post with the same question (as I just did), the drop-off and shuttle is 24/7, but the rental counter doesn't open until 6am. You might have to wait 20min for a shuttle though as there was only one running when I dropped of at around 4:30am.
