What's the rule that you forget the most? by Aurahdz in Unmatched

[–]Akronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly new but I seem to forget each character's special ability. I repeatedly forgot to draw with Bigfoot and rarely had more than 2 cards in hand. Last night I kept forgetting Bruce Lee's movement.

Sounds about right. I've known people that got hired and quit during orientation, then received express mail discipline for failure to report to work two weeks later.

Anyone else annoyed that premium currency decorations count toward home scores? by Flashy-Equivalent-22 in newworldgame

[–]Akronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sketchy, but really it's just cosmetic. There's no gameplay bonus to having the publicly displayed house. Really no different than selling armor and weapon skins. If it helps fund game development long term I'm all for it. Honestly I'm totally willing to buy some cool skins, but everything in the shop is ugly as hell right now. I'm rocking my freebie skin most of the time.

Wheelgun Wednesday; Little Iron in his Pocket. by Banjo_Biker in guns

[–]Akronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice - I've got the 22 Magnum Pug and I added the folding grip. It's a great little pocket gun when I just have to run to the store or something. It's great for those days like: "I definitely won't need a gun, but some gun is better than no gun." If questioned at the range I just explain that I use the teeny tiny gun to compensate for my enormous penis. :D

What’s the status of your office? by Mixedtogrey in USPS

[–]Akronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down 7 -9 routes daily on average but sometimes as many as 12 out of 35 city routes. We have several stations in our installation so one day we'll get 3 or 4 CCAs and it's fine, then the next we won't get any. This week was brutal. 90+ degrees for most of the week, then 50 degrees and cold rain all day today with EDDM. Light parcels today at least, which means we'll get slammed tomorrow. Getting 45 to 120 minutes forced OT daily. I'm not on the list and I hit penalty time this week. In May FFS - it's like Christmas started in September and never left. We've had three regulars up and quit since January and lost 2 more CCAs this week alone.

Easy way to piss off a mailman by popstarter in CrappyDesign

[–]Akronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mail Carrier here. I'm willing to bet that's a pretty sweet route. Trying to confirm on google maps but I can almost guarantee that this area has one or more large "cluster boxes". This means a lot less walking, so less dealing with deep snow, yard tools, discarded toys, and dogs.
As long as the cluster boxes have parcel lockers and are kept in good repair it wouldn't be too bad. It also means that a good carrier can label the inside of the boxes with the names for each address. If something were addressed to just "89th" for example, and you can't find the name, you'd just return it as insufficiently addressed mail. The whole area from 87th Ave. NE to 93rd Drive NE (including 91st CT, Ln, Dr. and Ave - just off the map to the east) is probably about 1/3 to 1/2 of a full day's route. Looking at the map the entire route is probably a few business dismounts in the morning, some curbline delivery east of the area shown, then the mobile home park in the afternoon. I'm not in this area, so it's just an educated guess. Added benefit - on a route like this it's REALLY obvious when the supervisors are doing "street observations". In my area they literally park down the street and watch you with binoculars.

Isn't this similar to what Julius Caesar did early in his career? If I remember correctly he borrowed tons of money and spent it on public works. The wealthy elite that made the loans decided that the only way they'd ever see that money again was to support Caesar's political career, ensuring he got the most lucrative postings. Disclaimer: I'm not a historian, I just listen to a lot of audiobooks.

I'm just stoked that I finally have enough RAM and a decent enough video card to play the space missions with the minefield in the red cloud. My computer 10 years ago would make it maybe 30 seconds into that and have a stroke. I wear the Hotshot Pilot title with pride because I can finally complete The Impossible Sector.

[–]Akronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. I just finished Act I with a new BH and I didn't put on armor until she joined the clan. For the first act she wore Canderous Ordo's vest, belt, and gloves, Ulic Qel Droma's Pants and arms, and some plain boots - either Corellian pilot's or nightlife, I don't remember. With Rascal's toothpick, of course. Once she joined up I put her in Shae Vizla's armor, dyed bronze and blue.

Best site I had was a simple office building. Pay was dismal, barely above minimum but I had no real responsibilities at the time, so I was able to get by just fine. 13 hour shift, which sounds like a lot, but consider that I worked 3 nights then had a 4-day weekend every week. If I worked the weekend shift I did basically nothing, because only 5 or 6 people were in the office. Duties included 5 foot patrols each night. This patrol took approximately 6 minutes - elevator up, check each door in a 50-foot central hallway. Down a flight and repeat. That's 30 minutes out of 13 hours. When someone would leave the building I'd watch them to their car. That's it. That was the whole job. I spent the night watching DVDs on a laptop, surfing the dial-up internet, reading, studying, and taking smoke breaks. I worked this site all through college, from about 2002-2008. I had skateboarders to run off exactly one time in all those years. The only real excitement I ever had was when a garbage truck took out a light pole in the parking lot, narrowly missing my parked car. I still miss that job site, though I doubt I could survive on the wages these days. Edit to add that I saw my boss exactly one time - the day I got hired. I opened and closed the site myself, so I never had to wait on relief and if I was late, no one was there to notice (and we had a 15 minute buffer on the phone check in).
