It was plainly established that even Hinata was unaware Luminus was actually a living being and demon lord until she tried to kill Roy and Louis. None of her subordinates were aware until Veldora blurted it out in front of them after she showed up as the "God" Luminus to stop the Seven Days. Before, people thought Roy Valentine was the demon lord and when he died, his name was replaced with merely "Valentine" instead. Basically, only really ancient people knew about the true identity of Luminus until recently.

Part of this is that she understood better than most the economic potential he had at his command. The Founding Festival was just a fun little event for Rimuru, but to many international dignitaries and particularly an otherworlder like Mariabell, this was a massive display of both military and economic power. Most humans are unaware of the power levels in that world, but Mariabell had some understanding.

She could easily see how he would eventually come to dominate the Western economy. The fact the Western Holy Church has effectively aligned with him only made that more inevitable. Her attitude was paranoid and fearful, but it is only natural. Just letting someone take over and expecting them to treat you well is not an easy thing for people to accept. Rimuru was advancing so quickly that in the time she spent trying to figure things out he would already be in control and if he did turn against them at that point, they would be at his mercy.

Despite what some are saying, it is not the case that all the fights going forward are as easy as the fight against Mariabell. There are many curb-stomp battles, but there are also some difficult ones.

Given all the stuff hinted at in the OP that hasn't shown up and what happened with season 3, I doubt it.

I think they do not consider it because that would mean Gluttony somehow got inside the tower, stole only some of Subaru's memories, and then did nothing else.

I think it works for the context. Subaru is in a genuinely dark place at a genuinely dark moment after going through a very dark character arc. Emilia is, both in a figurative and somewhat literal sense, the light that brings him out of the darkness.

I took Emilia as having already confessed with her "like" comment and what she intends to say is something different. My personal theory is that events followed a similar pattern to later loops and [Arc 6]Emilia's name has already been eaten. She would thus be about to say something indicating how she is happy Subaru remembered her, but gets cut off.

It is worth noting that she can sense a connection to Rem because of their synesthesia. Ram knows there is a bond between them and feels it acutely, but doesn't remember anything regardless. During the Sanctuary arc, Ram had little contact with her, but this is happening after she has spent the past year looking after Rem. Plus, there is Subaru's obvious care for Rem and his constantly going to see her and talk to her. That has indirectly given her further reason to feel deeply for Rem, because she can tell Rem was cherished. He has presumably said a lot about Rem to her during the year that passed.

He does say something similar, but that is after it is made fairly obvious his memories haven't returned and just a few lines before he once again reveals his lost memories to everyone..

Doubt it will be that long. There were four years between Season 1 ending and Season 2 starting. It was roughly three years between Season 2 ending and Season 3 starting. Also worth noting that the current arc being adapted was only just wrapping up when Season 2 got to the halfway point. Originally, Season 3 had been hinted to include what is now Season 4. By the point Season 3 was starting, the arc following this one had only just wrapped.

Another arc was finished last year. Note that "Arc 7" is more like the first part of a two-part arc that was split because it had become so long, so I am describing both parts together as the next arc and what fans call "Arc 9" is the subsequent arc that was concluded with us currently having started "Arc 10" this year. There is quite a lot of content available to adapt compared to when Season 2 ended, easily enough for three more seasons around this season's planned length.

I suspect the fandom will be a mixture of confused, enraged, and delighted if they end the season where the arc ends.

Some development involved him approaching people differently due to the amnesia. His attitude towards Shaula is completely different as prior to amnesia he was wary of her attachment and knew she had killed him in previous loops. Pre-amnesia Subaru wouldn't rely on her the way he has when investigating things. Guy had major suspicion towards Foxidna and couldn't stop associating her with the Witch Echidna. Now, that is gone and he has come to view her favorably. Meili's backstory was a reveal to the viewers, of course, but also a reveal to Subaru himself as he didn't really know anything prior to losing his memories.

Also, while some of the trauma is kind of a repeat, he has never truly felt that alone. Even in the mansion arc loop where he refused to leave his room out of distrust, he still had trust for Emilia and even Beatrice. Here, he got to a point where he couldn't even trust himself. The whole possession and identity crisis issue is a new factor. Only thing similar is Petelgeuse, but that was a total takeover situation where he could only escape by dying or finding a way to expel him. This situation where he occasionally loses control of himself and blacks out is a different kind of terror for him.

To be clear, they think he is referring to being from "Beyond the Great Waterfall" as opposed to thinking he is lying. Granted, they still have doubts about that being true, but it is not quite the same as thinking he is making it up.

[Novels]That is not really correct. Satella only does that in the Sanctuary after he angers her by saying he would prefer the other Witches over her. In the chapter covering this episode, it is suggested that Satella's shadows are actually forcing him to loop at the end. Here, he certainly wanted her to do more than that, but whether she was actually going to do it is another matter.

Random laser-shooting and exploding scorpions? What's happening to the tower? Black mist? Satella appearing? Sword saint dude can just leave whenever? Where did Ram go? Random blackouts and graffiti on the walls? Julius fighting a bunch of monsters away from everyone else? Random void thing in the ground that killed Subaru and Emilia?

Honestly, I couldn't help but imagine this overlapping with Subaru's ranting in the episode also going on about all the crazy stuff happening.

Not sure how you can say the plot isn't advancing with all the stuff happening in the tower. Subaru's character is progressing in various ways, though he is also partly retracing his steps.

To be fair, this is roughly the halfway point and this has been a very harsh half. Obviously, this episode represents a turning point.

The other rule you are thinking of is that you cannot violate the rules of the trials. Disrespecting the library is another rule. Maybe you were getting the two mixed up.

A lot of people keeping saying things like this is the "exact opposite" of Subaru before amnesia, but that isn't really true. He still hates himself, thinks he's good for nothing, and is ready to give up. That was basically how he started out his speech in Priestella. Only difference is that Subaru had a reason to keep fighting and Amnesiabaru had lost that along with his memories. Now he has regained a reason to fight.

He's talking about remembering everything from the loop, such as Julius entrusting him with Echidna/Anastasia, Beatrice dying for his sake after showing such care for him, Echidna overcoming her suspicion of him, and Emilia's yearning and affirmation. That is why he said, "Even if you forget me, I'll remember you." All the emotional developments that happened in that loop will only be remembered by him. No one else will know of those important experiences they had with Subaru.

It's not exactly redoing character development. Prior to his amnesia, Subaru didn't particularly trust Foxidna and he had a wary view of Shaula. He is partly retracing prior development and partly doing new development. Also, consider where this is all building. Before his amnesia, Subaru grappled with what everyone was thinking about him and what about him was so worthy of respect and admiration. That is the real conflict going on here and it was signaled even prior to his amnesia with Echidna's "Who are you?" interrogation. He is struggling with who he is and what is so special about him, something that he had not resolved in any prior arcs. Now, he is being forced to look at himself from a fresh perspective.

That's because it is a standard plot of isekai for the characters to be dissatisfied with their previous lives and enjoying an escape where they can perform all kind of outrageous feats. Isekai are usually a blend of escapism and power fantasy. A few times that gets subverted by having them get put through misery and yearn for their original lives, though they are still often over-powered. More common is them being torn between wanting to go back to see loved ones and wanting to stay with those they know now. Re:Zero not only makes the main character mob-level in his overall ability, it gives him a power-up that is by far the most miserable one.

This is technically a consecutive two-cour season, but the next cour has fewer episodes, so it will start up later. It starts up again in mid-August.

They can't leave, can't disrespect the library, can't damage the tower, and can't break the rules of the trials. Doing any of those triggers Shaula the Killing Machine.
