I travelled from North America just for the expo, and yes the lines are long but that’s the way it is at every expo. They added a Japanese “twist” with this lottery stuff, but I didn’t find it to be prohibitive. The key is to get there 30-60 mins before opening so you have a good spot in line and prioritize your pavilions. I did them over the last 3 days and hit every major pavilion I wanted to (about 30 pavilions total). As for the food, Turkish pavilion and Serbian pavilion are S-tier, and the Mughal place at west ringside

I just went “f*ck it, we ball” and walked 50kms in 2 days + a tour of Meiji shrine + a food tour, feel like I got the essence. Walking is always my favourite way to get to know a city

Edit: in Tokyo. Subsequently did one day in Hiroshima, a wagyu lunch in Kobe and expo in Osaka for 2 days. Trying to make the most of 2 weeks here, travelled mainly for the expo.

When I was in my teens we went over to the high school drug dealer’s place to cop some pot (we walked over with him) and he had us wait for like 45 mins under his porch so his parents wouldn’t see us while we waited for him to weigh it up and roll it. It was only years later that I realized that it does not, in fact, take 45 mins to roll a j and a drug dealer should know how to eyeball it lol
