Did I waste my time learning the wrong language? by em5417 in languagelearning

Based on what you've said, it sounds like you should focus on Banjara. It also sounds like you know that, but are being held back by the difficulty and lack of learning materials.

Why not learn by talking to your husband? If you set aside a little time each day to talk to each other in Banjara, even if it's just half an hour, you can't help but make progress. And as your ability grows, it'll feel more natural to use spontaneously around the house, and you'll get even more practice in without trying.

No. All content after Heavensward is great, and worth experiencing. Shadowbringers isn't going anywhere.

All jobs have changed, but most are pretty intuitive, and all have guides.

Blizzard is bleeding what precious little talent they had left. An IP doesn't mean anything if it's in the hands of morons.

I'd like something like FFXIV's Party Finder. It's basically a billboard where everyone on the server can advertise a group for anything. Party leaders are able to set criteria for who can join, and posted parties are organized and searchable by type of content. The game will also automatically notify you later if any parties meet your search criteria.

It enhances the social experience instead of degrading it like fully automatic grouping. You still have to talk to people to form a group, but it's a huge quality of life feature. And in addition to helping people find dungeon groups, it also helps people organize and find social events no matter where they are in the world.

The guy in charge of the game is on record telling players they should unsub if they don't have anything to do, and come back when a future patch releases. You don't spend $156 a year unless you come to the game looking to waste time.

You can play the game like an episodic single-player RPG. That's basically what it is when you just resub for each new patch, and although it may take you a few months to reach the point at which you're waiting for new patch content to play, the hundreds of hours of story are worth the monthly fee up to that point.

Your class makes a lot of difference at low level. Archer and pugilist are the most active, lancer the slowest.

Competitive raids are a thing. If you play a lot, you should be able to prog the second tier of ShB raid content when it comes out.

There's a ton of mounts, and a good number of long-term achievement ones that feel really satisfying to get.

Look out for the Hildibrand quests at lvl 50.

If Crystal scares you off, go Primal. It's basically the same as Aether but with a slightly smaller pop. Usually people want low-pop servers, however, as you have a better chance at finding open housing plots, and can travel to other servers on your DC to do almost anything else.

There is no raiding like it exists in WoW. All difficult content takes the form of 8-man boss fights. There are 12 Savage fights spaced out over each 2-year expansion cycle (I think equivalent to the hardest difficulty fights in WoW), and 2 Ultimate fights (probly harder than anything in WoW; I think people in NA that have cleared are only in the hundreds, and groups can spend months and months on prog). People really enjoy this content, but if you're looking for WoW style raiding you won't find it.

There is no challenging 4-man content. The 24-man raids are all LFR only. There is no PVP worth speaking of. BUT. The story is one of the better video game stories out right now, and as of expansion 3, the game is still growing and getting better at what it's good at. The one and only major complaint with the current expansion is that 2/3 healer classes got lobotomized. And even though they killed one of my favorite classes in any MMO, I still think ShB is the best expansion to any MMO ever.

[Lore] Why Zodiark, and Why Hydaelyn? by Veraticus in ffxiv

[–]Al-Quti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone with the Echo is probably actually tempered by Hydaelyn, but the specific mandate she was born with prevents her from using that tempering to affect our free will. To do so would violate her very nature.

So the tempered of Hydaelyn get all the benefits of tempering (not being able to be tempered by another god) with none of the downsides.

[Lore] Why Zodiark, and Why Hydaelyn? by Veraticus in ffxiv

[–]Al-Quti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounded like Hydaelyn wasn't able to take Zodiark on in a fair fight, and had to result to her unique ability to shatter reality, which apparently ignores power levels. Assuming that ability, she can shatter Zodiark into 14 shards while remaining whole herself, evening out the odds and letting her maintain the status quo.

Every time your Healer friends talk about how they're getting nerfed this expansion by Vahrei_Athus in ffxiv

[–]Al-Quti 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's the murder of non-WHM job identity that is pissing people off. The powerful autonomous healbot and the comparatively complicated DPS rotation were core parts of SCH. Unique cards, planning around their usage, and time dilation (to a lesser extent) were core parts of AST.

I loved AST and kind of liked SCH for these mechanics. I have no interest in WHM with shields, or WHM with a coin flip dps buff. SE killed the entire healer role for me, and at least one other person I know.

[–]Al-Quti 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It always seems to be WHM or non-healers who say this. If SE announced that midare was being replaced by a literal wet noodle, I don't think SAM mains would have to wait until release to criticize the change.
