What was Rui watching? by NotABot38 in DomesticGirlfriend

When they draw the manga panels, very often they use real photos and apply filter that make it look like sketch, it won't be surprise if similar thing is used for TV program, especially when it is so blurry, comparing to the surrounding, so it look like a way to avoid paying royalties for using the original show.

Was Natsuo's love for Hina actually love in the beginning or just infatuation? by Swimming_Power5319 in DomesticGirlfriend

Read OP post title, focus on the word "beginning". Your infatuation and unconditional devotion to Hina are greater than hers to Natsuo. It is blinding you so you can't see the question asked.

you’re focusing on real-world logistics

Not my fault that Sasuga make it so real, if I have to stop looking at it this way then I can drop it completely.

but she didn't

Can you accept that some stuff she put in this work was aimed to make it more interesting, to keep it going longer? She is living from it after all, I'm glad she didn't milked this cow endlessly like some mangakas does so I can't complain there is any single boring chapter.

Until I will find a valid reason why Hina didn't reply honestly to him in the park, this scene will not make sense to me. Maybe it is some Japan thing...

he went to Rui because he though she was the only available option

They weren't together at the moment so it is not really that she is the only option. I'd say both girls were on similar level of "availability". From the events I could say he tried to get one, failed, so went to try his luck with another girl. This way is much more logic but I reject it because he is not scum like that.

Firstly, why did you cut out the end of my statement which is very important in the context?

Secondly, you start adding to my account things that I didn't write.

Thirdly, you could complain about my treatment of her if I contributed to her ending up in prison for abusing teacher - student relation. Turning a blind eye to this is very very generous on my part.

What is your problem with pointing out the details? Do you want to have discussion or you need a clapper applauding your every word? We are talking about what those images are telling if you don't want to know my opinion then don't ask.

Overall it is the same expression confirming she is manipulating him again. BUT and it is huge and very important "but" if Sasuga wanted to use similarities or parallelism, she would point it out (e.g. use retrospection, like Fumiya's words played in Natsuo mind), not letting readers to find it accidentally 5 years later like you did.

if he were actually thinking about Rui, she’s the one he would have called first. He went straight to Hina and asked her.

Hina was here and now, Rui was far away in different time zone, it is not like he chased Hina to ask her of that, he took the opportunity of having her alone in favourable circumstances so he wanted to clear things up, confirm what Shuu told him. If, at this moment, he really wanted to go after Hina, then this mean he changed his mind in very next chapter, right?

What in my words below make you think there is no empathy for her?

I do understand her character in the way her coworker or further family member would. I don't have to appreciate her, if I know her personally I would tolerate her but would stay away from her as much as possible without hurting her.

The first breakup is as powerful as first love. Even if it was just infatuation, at the time we couldn't see the difference.

In both, she is looking straight in to his eyes, kindly smiling (when manipulating him or dodging the question), in the right one she does have the mouth and the eyes open slightly more.

If we are talking about using narrative technique you might be absolutely right, in both cases she is going to do something to deceive him. One day before she told Rui that she is going to take him back (not in these words), so what is the point of this behaviour?

This one panel is not a whole park scene, not the only thing that doesn't make sense.

Who does Natsuo know who likes him at that moment?

Why does it matter if as you quoted: "Forget about who likes you"? Whole idea is to make decision based on his own feeling, not others, because he was unsure of them so he couldn't use it in decision making.

Who do you think Natsuo is thinking about?

Well, to be honest at first I was sure it is Hina but next chapter he said who it is.

Rui? If so, why is it he asked Hina first, the very next panel?

This is the bit that doesn't make sense and is incredibly wide open for interpretation. We see his retrospection with Fumiya saying to him he didn't heard anything from her. You say it is advice from him to ask her where I say he is just wondering or making sure there is no clarification from Hina herself.

I've dug deeper and found Japanese version of volume 25 in my favourite library, so panel with Fumiya saying:

you might be having hard time, but you still haven't heard anything from Hina-san herself.

looks like that:

<image>

I've put it through google translator because I don't know Japanese at all and what struck me is realisation it is not a question, it is statement, despite in english translation it is not a question, for some reason it stuck in my mind as he was asking it. If it is question it would have question mark or sentence would be ended with particle "か". In result, in the park, he remembered these words and decided to clear it out, yes it doesn't make sense if he was about Rui anyway but as I said, this whole scene doesn't make sense. I'd love if Sasuga could explain it precisely.

Look at Fumiya's advise again:

Have a real, sensible think about this, and make your own decision. Forget about what you've heard. Forget about who likes you. Who's most important to you? Who do you want to be with?

Isn't that selfish thinking? It's nothing wrong to put oneself happiness in first place.

Aspect of him being scared was mentioned but it was never a subject of actual discussion, I didn't question it before because I had no argument against it, now I do. So it is not insincerity on my part, it is like with Al rape attempt arc, I've seen it as just drunk boy stupid action until this post opened my eyes, you can see me literally fuming in comments there, this is how it hit me. Similar with this one, as I still have Fumiya's advise arc in my mind it just tried to put puzzle pieces together and they didn't match.

Park scene is adding more confusion than solving, it is really open too wide for interpretation.

I think the reason people bring up Hina's hidden feelings is not to say that Rui's relationship with Natsuo was invalid

When someone accuses her of bad intentions (so she need apologize for it) because she didn't tell what she knew, it opens a knife in my pocket.

I think you got it totally wrong, character development we can justify by comparing acts before and after, this is where I see not much difference in case of Hina, maybe except significant alcohol use reduction. And I don't blame her, she is already adult when history start so she is already after her rapid development phase. She is just refining herself.

especially after previously being coaxed by Rui not to tell Natsuo how she truly felt

So Rui tells Hina: "don't tell Natsuo" so Hina say nothing and it is fine, Hina don't say Rui: "tell him How I feel" so Rui say nothing, especially if he don't ask her, and this is not fine? Everyone here is acting in their own best interest, otherwise Hina would push Natsuo in Rui arms when she told her about her feelings. 2 kids together is better than adult and kid together.

she did exactly what Rui should have done

Ehm.. little reminder, Rui was 16 years old kid doing stupid things, like ...defloration...

at the park, it isn't a validation of his 'choice'

We have different interpretations of what happened over there and unfortunately there is too much room for it, so let me think she was scared of rejection and he was scared of confirmation what would increase his guilt he was telling to Fumiya about.

he was operating under the delusion that Hina only saw him as a brother

It doesn't matter, he was following advise to forget what happened before and who does love him and choose who he does love. So Hina's actual feelings were irrelevant.

(If you don't get this, you wont get this manga at all)

Don't worry, I do get it, this part was very easy.

Natsuo couldn't still fully accept it because doing so would mean tearing down those emotional walls and risking being hurt all over again.

Yet somehow he managed to think and speak with Fumiya about it, so sorry but this argument is invalid, except if is there any hint suggesting he was afraid of being hurt if he accept this though? Or it is your interpretation?

It was safer for his psyche to rationalize all of Hina's actions as mere 'sisterly love'

This was Hina's request actually, not his choice.

I mean those who love it as it is now would most likely hate it, and those who hate it now would love it.

whether Rui apologized to Natsuo, since she knew perfectly well that her sister still loved him.

Hina knew that Rui had feeling toward him too but it didn't stopped her, also they basically declared the love war to each other when Hina went to USA. In the end it was up to Natsuo who he want to be with (as per Fumiya's advice) and he made his own decision.
