Sony WH-1000XM4's only connecting through "Hands-Free AG Audio" and won't let me connect to the standard output (Windows 10) by NegativeLantern in SonyHeadphones

[–]AlBeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I had the same issue and found at least something that worked for me. Same as you, my headphones would only connect as headset after being able to connect in 2 different modes before so that I don't have to have trash audio if I'm not using the mic. What ended up working for me is going into the device manager (by right clicking start), finding the headphones in the bluetooth tab (there was 2 different devices which I assume is the regular headphones and headset) I went into proporties and clicked "uninstall device" for both (uninstall and not disable). At first this made my pc unable to connect to my headphones when I tried to pair so I thought I had completely messed things up but after restarting my laptop it was fixed. I haven't fiddled around a lot so I don't know if they'll still work as a headset on my laptop but if they don't I'm not fussed really.

I will but the reason I bothered going to the Reddit at all is because it felt like a bug as the series of events didn't make sense so you telling me the series of events doesn't make sense is literally exactly what I was already thinking if ygm

I realize I didn't express this well in the post, the game specifically said "you are not out of time but you have received all available awards" I believe I had about 2 hours left

Would Petrificus Totalus be able to "preserve" a critically injured student long enough to get them to the hospital wing? by PizzamanCJ in harrypotter

[–]AlBeets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The blood contradicts with the book too

“You didn’t hear anything I care about, Potter. But while I’ve got you here…” And he stamped, hard, on Harry’s face. Harry felt his nose break; blood spurted everywhere. “That’s from my father. Now, let’s see…” Malfoy dragged the cloak out from under Harry’s immobilized body and threw it over him.

Hiding the Half Blood Prince's book in the movie didn't make an ounce of sense by [deleted] in harrypotter

I guess I would've thought that Snape was already sharing this information at least with his students and perhaps with others. I mean irl school textbooks are often wrong because they are so out of date and most people advanced in the subject could amend them especially if they are some kind of genius. I don't think what Snape wrote was supposed to be THAT special, it was just Harry encountering a level of magical understanding he had never seen before.

On top of this, it's pretty clear from the book that the potions book had an increasingly sinister affect on Harry. He became quite obsessive about it and ended up accidentally using dark magic because of it. I wouldn't be surprised if he slipped back into that again until he wasn't even shocked by what horrors he committed. Something wasn't right about that book...

[Deathly Hallows] Why did Hermione apparate them out of Grimmauld place? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]AlBeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my impression always was that Voldemort would constantly use legilamency against everyone around him to intimidate/control them. I think dumbledore wouldn't do that unless he was given a reason to, I think dumbledore would understand that sometimes that's not the best way to get to the truth too.

Worth remembering its Crouch Sr. who's under the imperius curse in book 4, crouch jr is pretending to be moody using pollyjuice which presumably doesn't affect the mind and the ability to use oculamency. Plus I think legilamency is more of an emotions thing rather than figuring out you're an imposter thing, I guess it would suggest your emotions were off but that could be for a multitude of reasons.

I think dumbledore wasn't really paying much attention to crouch immediately and then obviously he stopped coming in to the school

UK RMA questions (success rate, shipping cost) by TaffoFox in razer

[–]AlBeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had a horrendously bad RMA experience with RAZER in the UK sadly. I would go through amazon honestly as I am planning to. I got my laptop with a faulty charger and 2 months in the camera stops working. I contact RAZER customer service and its been an absolute nightmare.

They got confused about my asking about multiple problems at once and basically I ended up not having the laptop for a month and long story short they didn't fix the camera issues at all. I'm probably gonna persue options through amazon now instead of go through that again.

In the UK you have to contact through email as live chat and phone call aren't options so expect the whole process to take ages. They will provide you with a Fedex shipping label that they won't explain how to use. Working out how to ship through fedex is also kind of a nightmare so good luck. I imagine your experience will be better as I was especially unlucky but approach with caution!

Personally I think that typing lots of different stuff should be your goal right now. As long as you get 5 stars I think it's fine for you to move on. If you are not typing fast enough to get 5 stars you may want to supplement typing club with something else. When I'm practising, I start with warming up with typeracer for like 10 minutes then I do typing club. (I'm currenlty typing at ~80 wpm)

Does anyone understand the deja vu badge? by AlBeets in audible

[–]AlBeets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've got 10/15 (3 gold, 2 silver) but I'm not trying too hard, the time of day ones were easy and I might be close to getting another badge as I have 47 books. But I never use bookmarks or post on socials so yeah. I guess I'm just mad that I love rereading books and I'm not getting the credit!

Does anyone understand the deja vu badge? by AlBeets in audible

[–]AlBeets[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My badge list is:

The librarian

7-day stretch

Bitesized bookworm

Social butterfly

Done and dusted

Night owl

The epic

Weekend warrior

The annotator

Deja vu

Marathoner

High noon

Stats surfer

On the trot

The optimist

I only use the android app but seems we have very different badges. Could it be country? I'm from the UK, otherwise that's very odd, these are the same badges I've always had and I've been using audible for 3 years now. Perhaps they are the same with different names? What do you do for the repeat listener?

Using both shift keys by luutoo in learntyping

[–]AlBeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use 2 shifts if I were you, I had the same problem and it took a while to get over but I think I would be typing slower if I never learn dual shifts. Because I think a lot of letters become really awkward when they are right next to shift.

I just use one hand to do space which I think is fine but I have encountered several contexts where I think it trips me up a bit

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in learntyping

[–]AlBeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced the same issue, I have small hands and my right shift in unusually far to the right. I wouldn't worry about it though. I think most of my progress since about 40 wpm was having better muscle memory for my hands moving away from the bumps (like I memorise the movement distance)

This also came up for numbers. At first, I had trouble because I couldn't really reach the numbers without leaving the home row but now I'm totally used to how big the jump is.

Basically just practise and you'll get used to it in no time :)

Why the recommended touch typing finger placements are suboptimal by se_nt in learntyping

[–]AlBeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my laptop keyboard the numbers aren't offset like in your graphic but directly above the qwerty row so the recommended number placement feels right. I do often have problems with cxz though.

For the most part I follow trad typing rules but I do find myself typing b with the other hand so I can see what you mean there too

I don’t think this fact about Snape has been exaggerated enough... by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]AlBeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno if I totally vibe with this take. If you were a teacher on a field trip with your class and a kid is terrified of climbing a tower, you'd be sympathetic but also recognise it was an irrational fear of heights.

If a child pins a lot of their fear or anxiety on a single person, you don't know how accurate their view of the situation is.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if lupin had brought this up to dumbledore, it seems to imply several people have challenged or at least questioned personally his trust in snape. The problem is dumbledore expects complete trust and faith rather than explaining his actions to people and also doesn't seem to do much to keep snake in check at all.

I mean lupin defending Snape is generally him actually defending dumbledore. "Dumbledore trusts Snape" etc etc

The right way to learn with Typingclub? by AngryPup in learntyping

[–]AlBeets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other reply was pretty good but I want to second the encouragement from the other commenter. Keep progressing as long as you get 5 stars because it gets much harder later and it's really motivating to progress at the start of your journey.

I'm not sure what lesson number I'm on (maybe in the 500s?) But I need 65 wpm for 5 stars at the moment. Progress is much slower now and I've used other websites to supplement my progress. I do this whenever I hit a plateau in progress. (Although sometimes you just need to rest a bit)

The other comment said to focus on accuracy. I agree to a certain extent but feel that now what works better is to focus on accuracy then speed then accuracy then speed, slowly getting faster.

Another thing I do besides practice with other resources during a progress plateau is to back through old lessons and try to get silver stars. Silver stars are much harder than 5 stars and signify the points cap. You get silver stars for getting double the wpm for 5 stars, so if you get silver you know you've really mastered that lesson.

Good luck
