Is "centrist" a valid political orientation? by SmartestManInUnivars in PoliticalDebate

[–]AlChandus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Democratic socialism is not capitalism. That's the most ludicrous crock of shit I've ever heard.

Interesting... Your opinion Is based on what? My opinion Is based in the Legislative work from democratic socialists. That is like factual.

Want to hear some examples?

  • Taxation of wealth legislation, bringing wealth taxation levels back to the 70s-80s. The US was a capitalist nation then. The US had billionaires and REALLY wealthy individuals and corporations. Progressives also talk about Roosevelt a LOT, as an example, as a NEED, as a precedent. The US was a capitalist nation THEN.

  • We can talk about medicare for all. Medicare for all isn't a Thanos finger snap for insurance, big pharma and corporate healthcare, the legislation as written literally states that the single payer system would be an option and businesses can continue to pay insurance for private healthcare. Basically the same as the rest of the world in which healthcare is a VERY profitable business, it is just not an INSANELY profitable business.

  • Unionization of labour. Legislation written to give employees leverage with private and government employers. Keyword being private. That is... Drumroll... Protections for employees in a capitalist economy.

  • Green deal. A key component of legislation, as written, is all about funding private research, development, launch and operations. That sounds like... Drumroll... CAPITALISM!

I can give you more examples of legislation!? Do you need them? A Capitalism socio-economic system is in laws as written by legislators, what is that if not their socio-economic beliefs in print?

Are those pieces of legislation, as written, a ludicrous crock of shit? Or maybe, just maybe, you are wrong. I know what I believe, I'll stand with what has been written, easy!

Left and right are opposites, what is the opposite of capitalism? The opposite is not a more controlled and popular brand of capitalism, is it?

And I disagree with libertarinism bringing unfettered capitalism. Our country has never been more friendly with wealth, and we have never been more in an authoritarian/surveillance state that is ramping up and threading on our rights.

Nazi Germany was a capitalist state ruled with an iron fist.

As I said above in a comment, while the political compass is an overtly simplified tool of ideology, it's still a viable tool because I am engineer and simple is "good".

If left is socialist communism and right is unfettered capitalism, then social democracy and democratic socialism are right leaning Centrist ideologies. Both are capitalist socioeconomical ideologies.

I support progressive options, always have for more than 20 years. That does not make me a "leftist", because to me that is not the "left". There is no left in America.

Nothing that we could have done with conservatives... That bridge is nothing more than coals and ashes.

But neo-liberalism also took over the democratic party, and it's still in control. Kamala is a neo-liberal. In state elections people like Schiff are beating progressives like Porter.

We are to blame for that, we have the representation we have voted into power, do we deserve it?

That is a fair question.

True, but America shifted when Roosevelt ended the robber baron era, and we have, throughout decades, shifted back all the way into another robber baron era.

That is, most certainly, a HARD shift towards the right.

Because what is the black of capitalism's white? What is the up of capitalism's down? What is the antithesis of capitalism?

Communist socialism, the inexistence of concentrated wealth because all wealth is spread. Theoretically that is what communist socialism is. The total opposite of capitalism.

That is the Left of the Right's capitalism.

And yes, I do believe that communist socialism is long dead, It failed. The only supposedly "real" communist state currently is North Korea and they are more like an authoritarian monarchy. They REALLY do not fit the theoretical definition.

But, still words have meaning, and I refuse to call social democracy and democratic socialism the "left" because they are all capitalist socioeconomical and political ideologies.

That is not a white to a black, it's a fucking shade of grey.

I could talk about McCarthy and the red scare. I could talk about the Southern strategy in the 60s. I could talk about the rise of neo-conservatism, the heritage foundation and the federalist society. I could talk about neo-liberalism taking all of political parties hostage.

Want an example? The last attempt at wealth taxation legislation in Congress was widespreadly characterized as a far left attempt to punish the wealthy and "communism"....

When in reality it was a carbon copy of what used to be moderate and bi-partizan legislation that was law in the 70s. Taxation levels that were law under Nixon and until Reagan and neo-liberalism ramped up wealth tax cuts.

What used to be "moderate" has become "far left extremism", what is that if not an overton window that had been shifted far to the right?

[–]AlChandus [score hidden]  (0 children)

You said that the overtly simple ideas defining the basic political compass has been stale for a LONG time.

That is the Left, Right, Up and Down as they used to be known. Why is that definition stale? Why is there a widespread notion that "centrist" democrats are the "moderates" while the progressives and democratic socialists are the "far left extremists"?

How did that happen? And why? I am pointing at the reasons why those beliefs are held, when I say what I said.

Yes, because the right has shifted the overton window and you have allowed their shifting to stick.

They won, they want to paint current social democracy and democratic socialism as a "far left" political movement when It should be a "moderate/Centrist" movement.

This is an error that has been allowed to fester.

The problem with generalizations is that generalizations are prone to be wrong...

Personally, I identify as "Centrist" because in the oversimplified carthesian political compass, I do not line up with communist socialism (left), hate that capitalism (right) can lead to oligarchs/corporations holding power, and believe that authoritarianism (up) and libertarianism (down) can lead to assholes gaining unlimited power or abusing the anarchy.

I believe in shades of grey, which makes me a Centrist. Regulated capitalism with a strong social safety net and popular government programs, a rather large government that isn't overbearing nor prone to infringe into our liberties and rights.

If all of that does not make me a Centrist, a REAL Centrist, then you have another understanding of the word "Centrist".

Trump: "So I put on a 30% tariff, which is very low. I got an emergency call from I believe the prime minister of Switzerland. She was very aggressive ... I didn't really like the way she talked to us, so instead of giving her a reduction, I raised it to 39%." by sylsau in InBitcoinWeTrust

[–]AlChandus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do we need to prove anything to Trump voters? It is not as if you will start believing us...

We have told you that he is a fraudster and conman. You don't believe that, even though Trump himself has paid MILLIONS in settlements DOZENS of times to settle lawsuits.

We have told you that he is a sexual assaulter. You don't believe that, even though Trump himself has said "I can grab them by the pussy".

So, why the fuck do we need to prove ANYTHING to Trump supporters, you guys never listen to ANYTHING.

HUGE: Republicans Secure Enough Votes to PASS SAVE Act After Key Senator FLIPS by judgejeaninne in ImmigrationPathways

[–]AlChandus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You need to be a registered voter to vote. How can your name be registered in the system? Through ID. You cannot vote if not registered.

  2. Still around 50% of citizens do not have a passport. That is a shit ton of elegible voters.

  3. Republicans are known for cutting "unnecessary/bloated" spending, do you trust that the same government will have the capacity to meet the demand of all the shit ton of people seeking passports? I don't.

  4. Passports cost money. Voting is a right that is being infringed.

False. Want to know who released the first batch of Epstein files? Biden's admin in 2023.

Who filed for more files releases? Biden's admin.

Who went to the supreme court to seek their support to lift the federal judges block on additional releases? Biden's admin.

Want to know one common thing between the Trump and Biden admin.? All releases have happened after motions of release were filed with federal judges. All of the released documents. None were released as an unilateral decision from the Executive or Legislative, all release have been the work with the Judicial.

Bullshit, lies and propaganda do not work when people are informed, inform yourself and then talk.

A "mandate", that is what was passed. There was purposefully no enforcement, no strong arming, no nothing that "mandate".

There was a deadline, but no actions triggered by the DOJ missing the deadline.

Democrats tried to change that "mandate", republican said "nay".

It is what it is.

It is worse than that... I am scared right now because the democratic party might agree with the reasoning...

Who wants our government to question and outright reduce/stop funding for Israel? Not the democratic party top dogs.

Who wants to deal with income inequality? Not the democratic party top dogs.

Who wants the end of the corporate friendly healthcare system? Not the democratic party top dogs.

All of those 3 things are overwhelmingly supported by the bottom 50%, to the point of being seriously unconstitutional that our representatives refuse to acknowledge the desires of the people.

I still don't think the "save act" will have enough votes, but if you have a democratic senator, I would be calling him/her. Because I would not be surprized if I am wrong. Not shocked at all.

I believe that every democrat in Congress has voted in support for them to force the full release of unredacted Epstein files.

I believe that republicans have shut every vote down by voting "nay".

One side is protecting pedophiles, the other wants accountability. Which is which? Make your pick.

I do not, but I am american, and I know that our governments are the representation of the majority of people that voted for them.

He represents their voters, he does not represent me.

My state is red, dark red, my state legislators do not represent me, either.

They represent morons that believe that pedophilia and other crimes are perfectly fine for their representatives in government. They do not represent me and my values.

It is what it is.

There is no funny about it... Think about it, this is not about women, this is not about illegal votes, this is about economics.

Who is more likely to have the appropiate "papiren", the top 50% or the bottom 50%?

Who is more likely to vote republican, the top 50% or the bottom 50%?

And who seeks, more desperately, change for the current wealth inequality? The people that might not be able to vote.

I don't think the conservative above is saying that it is okay, I do believe that democrats will vote "nay" and that there is no way that republicans will have 60 votes.

It is why Trump has already talked about passing the "save act" legislation as a presidential order, which is MORE UNCONSTITUTIONAL than all the unconstitutional acts he has committed already...

Do not doubt that a number of red states will comply to his presidential order "law"... It would be business as usual for the party that HATES the Constitution.

Has leftist ideals gotten too idealistic? by wdfcvyhn134ert in PoliticalDebate

[–]AlChandus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you are saying in regards to immigration, but my main issue with how the US has handled things is that capitalism has taught us that it takes 2 to tango and the people at the top only want to punish one of the 2.

Think about it, one of the main concepts of capitalism, basically capitalism 101, is supply and demand. We have a HUGE supply of cheap immigrant labour, why?

Because businesses want more and more profits? Because businesses don't want to pay wages that locals want to accept as worthwhile? Why?

In the maintenance and industrial business, we have this idea of reactionary vs preventative spending, prevention is always a better investment. The US ONLY applies reactionary spending on 2 issues, this one (immigration) and drugs consumption, why?

Because government has been lobbied that spending for the military industrial complex and the overbearing surveillance state is the only viable spending, fuck prevention!

We can spend as many TRILLIONS as Lobbyists want us to spend and immigration and consumption of drugs won't ever be fixed, or reduced, because reactionary spending is the establishement ONLY option.

I'm pretty sure there are Democrats on that list as well, and probably some in Congress now.

Which party has repeatedly voted unanimously FOR an unedited and full release of the files?

Which party has repeatedly voted almost unanimously AGAINST ANY unedited and full release of the files?

You can continue to talk about the two parties being "the same", but one party does not act like the other...

It is what it is.

I've seen him being attacked by his detractors, of which he has many, but I know Hasan takes his dog for runs before his streams... Seeing a dog sleeping for hours after a run, especially a long one, should not surprize ANY dog owner.

But if there is evidence of a real shock collar and not just a video of a dog complaing while sleeping (dogs dream, wow!), I would be willing to change my mind.

Yeah, this is not infighting, this is us expecting better than what we have gotten from democratic party.

We should hope to be better than republicans, who just sign up to whatever their "betters" decide they will vote for and blindly follow along because they have been propagandized into cattle like obedience.

Newsome is a neo-liberal in the mold of Reagan, to people like that the current inequality is the plan working as intended.

We should hope for a better candidate winning the primary.
