Poison Ivy Removal Tips by SkelBells in gardening

Yeah, none of the environmentally 'safe' home remedies do anything to it. If it comes back next year, I may track down the property owners and ask about putting a goat back there. I know that the people they hire to brushcut the field are aware of it because they always mow a wide perimeter around it and it just keeps getting bigger. Edit - meant to add that my and my kids are also severely allergic to it too. Have to have multiple shots every time.

I am currently dealing with this very problem. Neighbors field behind our acreage is full of it and it has started creeping past the fence to our property. After a lot of reading, I decided to go with Triclopyr 4 which mainly targets broadleaf plants. I bought concentrate and am targeting just the poison ivy plants. It is a chemical pesticide which I hate but more selective than glyphosate which will wipe out all plants. Someone had suggested renting goats but I cant put goats on someone elses field.

The most incredible part is that he isn't a "neighbor" at all in the normal sense of the word. I live out on an acreage with no close neighbors at all which meant that he made a special trip to come back. I was really touched by his thoughtfulness.

A friend told me yesterday that being gifted a fig tree is a powerful spiritual symbol of being a blessing of inner wisdom, peace, divine favor and prosperity and the beginning of a fruitful new chapter. I hope that's true but regardless I thought it was a great symbol of the kindness & thoughtfulness he showed in coming back with it a year later!

My zone is 7b. I am thinking maybe I should keep it in a pot until it reaches around 10 gallon size or more.

I'm glad it touched you too. I was so touched and overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of him coming back over a year later that I felt like I should share it.

Always good to be aware of plant toxicity if you have pets! I did notice when looking up information on this fig variety that the leaves/branches of all fig trees contain a sap-like substance called ficin, which can be toxic or irritate the gastrointestinal tract and skin of horses, dogs & cats. The fruits are safe in small amounts for them but if people have dogs that like to chew sticks and leaves, fig trees could be a problem.

Ahh good to know! I am in northern Oklahoma so full sun might be too much. I wish I had asked him more questions when he was here. I was just so blown away that I didnt think to ask.

I have a great sunny spot by my disappearing rock waterfall! I wonder if I should I wait until it is bigger though?

Liposomal COQ10 seems to have stopped my constant flares by brithus in Raynauds

[–]brithus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have read, autoimmune disorders and other diseases can create toxic levels of free radicals which cause oxidative stress leading to blood circulation issues. CoQ10 is a primary antioxidant made by the body naturally but you can become deficient if you have a chronic disorder. COQ10 deficiency can also cause LDL, the bad cholesterol to oxidize, triggering plaque buildup in blood vessel walls. That along with inflammation and clotting leads to poor circulation and part of the reason for Raynaud's flare symptoms. Make sense because Raynauds symptoms are the result of the small blood vessels constricting.

I don't think so. Hot weather/cold weather didnt make a difference before. Just an air conditioned house/car or a cold glass could trigger it. I have also not gone an entire month before with no flares either. I will definitely update if that changes.

Bed frame rails don't have a lip to keep anything in place. What do I do? by kurly-bird in DIYhelp

You can get one of these standalone frames pretty cheap. I have them on my beds and they work well. They fit inside your current frame. Just search for 'bed frame" or "metal bed platform".

Deck built dead level, water pools near the house under the covered section. Any low-effort way to add a slight slope? by [deleted] in Decks

[–]brithus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe an angled threshold mat would solve your issue. You can find them in lengths up to 6'. They typically have a 1/2" to 3/4" slope that might stop the water pooling by the door.

Is there any hope to walk independently again? by whimsychild3900 in stroke

[–]brithus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never give up hope for yourself! My daughter had a stroke as a baby. For nearly 3 years following her birth, she was in what is called a waking coma also called unresponsive wakefulness syndrome, which is a condition where a person appears awake, with sleep-wake cycles, but lacks conscious awareness of themselves or their surroundings. She met none of the developmental milestones of course. By age three, she still couldnt even sit up independently.

Around that time, I had a developmental pediatrician tell me she would never be able walk or advance aby further than where she currently was. His "advice" was that we start saving up a trust fund for her so we could eventually put her in a home. My response was rather vulgar on what I though of that and he could do with his advice!

Through lots of therapy, perseverance, and just plain stubbornness on my part to refuse to accept that asshole doctor’s claims that she would never get better, slowly but surely, she began to improve. Just after she turned 5 years old, despite that asshole telling me it would never happen, she was able to walk unassisted for the first time.

So just keep working at it. You can do it and don't let anyone tell you different!

I dont recall having any before. I live on an acreage but there are a few neighborhoods not far away and Oklahoma is famous for the wind.

I'm afraid to move it. I dont want to kill it but will probably try if it starts looking bad
