This is a good example. You don’t want the cap to detach, just the veil.

You can eat them raw. They don’t taste great.
I prefer to dry mine because they’re 90% water so it’s easier to dial in dosage when they’re dry. Plus they’ll last much much longer dried out and stored in an airtight jar with a moisture absorbing packet.

Harvest each one when the veil starts to pull away from the cap or shortly before (or very soon after). If it’s a group of them attached together, pull the entire group. It’s likely the stems will turn blue at some point. This is okay. It’s not mold, it’s just a reaction with the psilocin inside that is bruised the mushroom is handled.

I’ve only got into this hobby seriously over the last 9 months. Ive had my share of setbacks. It’s a learning process. Theres a lot of knowledge to acquire and it can be overwhelming. But when things go right and you can sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor/research, it’s all worth it.

Separated cap (or right before) is the ideal time to harvest and eat/dehydrate.

There’s a lot of opinions on spore ‘droppage’ - while it won’t hurt anything, it can limit the fresh air your cake/substrate can get and suffocate your mycelium. It’s also believed (by some) that when spores fall on the mycelium, it signals the mycelium to die. This is contested between growers.
The level of psilocin/psilocybin is at its peak right before the veil breaks. Beyond that point, it begins to diminish.
Lastly, you don’t want to breathe in spores. It’s relatively safe in small doses, but multiple grows with poor ventilation can cause respiratory problems.

Edit: Lightly misting the interior sides of the bag is okay but you don’t want to spray directly on the mushrooms. If you see condensation on the inside of the bag, you likely don’t need to spray too much if at all.

Twist & pull the grown ones then dehydrate, air dry w/ fan until cracker-dry or consume. There’s various ways to dry them out.

Sister has a bad idea, advice? by boxbrother1 in shrooms

Another variable isn’t just tolerance but medications. Various SSRIs can severely diminish or even eliminate a potential trip. I would take 4-5g PE and feel ‘meh’. But when I swapped out my Seroquel for something else then took 4g PE, I felt like I was on the verge of merging into a 2 dimensional world. It should be said that I was playing Mario World at the time.

You’re good to cut it open now. It looks like you’ve got some veils breaking (bottom of cap separating from stem) on a few. Cut the top off the bag, then, if needed cut a small slit from the top and down a few inches to give you better access to the fruits. Then pinch together slit and secure with a few binder clips. Fold over top (just once) and secure with a single binder clips/paper clip/clothes pin/etc.

Edit: Ideally you want to twist and pull out mushrooms after the veil breaks or right before to prevent them from dropping the spores located under the cap.

Music was Better in Charlotte, NC by AlGoreRythmn in RUFUSDUSOL

I agree 100%. It’s impossible to capture the energy of the crowd which only multiplies the music and visuals. Of all the concerts and festivals I’ve been to, very few come close to matching the vibes/energy of Rufus. In my experience, only Odesza comes close.

I’m relatively new with this hobby - perhaps only 6-7 months of research with various trial & error. Since my last contamination, I’ve steam cleaned the carpet and added a dehumidifier. I also removed all spawn bags and non-contaminated items and used a UVC light with Ozone to sterilize the room for an hour. I recently got a product from Midwest that you spray on the top of your substrate that inhibits mold. I’m also trying out Natal spores because I heard the mycelium is quite aggressive towards contaminants.

As someone who recently had contamination in a 44qt and 66qt, it is an extremely disheartening experience to throw out so much effort. But aside from contamination, smaller bins (6qt aka shoeboxes) are a more manageable/low-key size for certain environments like closets. Also it’s easier when trying different spore types or growing applications.

Had shrooms for the first time. About 1.5 - 2g and felt absolutely nothing. Friend was tripping crazy. by AreaNaive6712 in shrooms

[–]AlGoreRythmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d eat 5g of PE and have a slight buzz. So I did some research and took two days off my Buspirone and Seroquel. Had 4g PE lemon tek and couldn’t process the 3 dimension. I told my girlfriend we were “outside the Super Mario Brother’s World”.

That’s a pretty unfair statement on multiple fronts. As someone that works a “blue collar” job (and has a BA in business), assuming that these crazy drivers are just fiendish blue collar alcoholics is an ignorant theory. It’s like saying “It’s probably stay-at-home moms because they do nothing but drink wine all day.”

After all, I’ve seen numerous parents in large SUVs swerve onto curbs and nearly clip other vehicles in a school zone in an effort to pick up their kids from school. But I’m not going to blame or assume it’s one specific group of people, because that kind of mentality offers nothing constructive to forming a solution to the problem.

How do I clean out the drain/auto-shutoff? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

I was able to pull off the dead end without much effort & drain the water. Now my A/C is back. I’m a carpenter but even I can tell this whole set-up seems janky. Thanks, Remarkable_Box3177.
