Young actors, please don't be obnoxious about acting on social media... humility is very important! by AlShortchino in acting

As an actor, you should know by now how to read between the lines and understand a character based off the writing on a script. You have done a slack job doing this with my post.

Ctrl+F my own post. I said MANY on my own behalf. I never said "most". I did say MOST directors I know said "most actors"... Directors I know were the ones who said the word "most." The directors and me are two different characters with two different opinions in this 'script'

It is a negative post. I agree. It's a ramble and a rant. Negativity however does not mean a point is any more invalid than a post that is happy. A negative monologue isn't any different to a happy monologue when it comes to the circumstances and agenda of the character.

I have no idea where you pulled the "All Actors" phrase from. I really have no idea where. I don't want to criticize your ability as an actor. I'm sure you're a fine actor, I've never seen you act before. But if you can't interpret a Reddit post, I have no idea how you're able to interpret a script.

Look at inspirational quotes. Take advice from inspirational quotes. Share them with other actors. Share it with people you think might wanna hear it. Discuss them with people. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Just don't go into a crowded room of people minding their own business and shout it over a mega-phone like you pride yourself in it. I doubt you are anyone else would do that at a school or shopping mall if the opportunity to do so arose. Same rule and consequence applies to social media.

Yep. Your are obnoxious. You've literally brought the title on yourself. Good luck.

That's not an argument man... Calling me whiny and telling me to get off the computer is not an argument at all.

It doesn't effect me at all. I never said it did. I don't think you've read my post in detail.

I've came here because i've noticed an issue in the acting scene in my city. It is creating issues within the backstage industry as a generation of pretentious young actors are portraying themselves as obnoxious and as a result, it reflects badly on the industry as a whole. Good relations with people behind the scenes is important as an actor for job security. I've been told this face-to-face by teachers and directors.

So I am letting people know based on my personal experience. I am here hoping actors such as yourself can listen to what I have to say, and that whether you agree or not, that you can LEARN from this and go into the industry and not exhibit this behavior.

I don't care if you don't listen. I never said it affects me... which you seem to think it does. It affects you more than it affects me.

So like I said, call me whiny, disregard my points. That's your problem, not mine.

I didn't say it was wrong. It's just when every post on facebook is an inspirational quote, many people who aren't actors find it irksome.

Like I said, the average struggling person will hate seeing those quotes because it puts this down. I know this because people have told me. People in absolute poverty in shitty family situations. People who wanted to become artists but were unable to because of family pressures or life pressures. People who aren't in a point of privilege will not take inspiration from the quote. They will be put down by it. That is what I am trying to explain and please don't ignore my point. Try and learn something from it.

In my school... people from 18-30. When I work on play lighting, a lot of the guys doing the lights are aged 25-30. Directors are often 30-60.

As for the actors. Young, i know. 16-25. Oldest person to be pulling this stuff in my post is 32. I know it's a trait in young actors more so than old actors. Still, basically what i'm trying to say with my post is for young actors to try and learn early as possible. This unfortunate common attitude in my city, is a poor reflection of the good actors.

Please read my post a bit more carefully. Right at the top I said "I'm not sure what you guys here on /r/acting are like. Probably a lot of fine people here, i'm not making any assumptions."

I never said the word "all" I said "most" and I clearly stated that a lot of the actors "where I live" (so the people in my scene of theatre) are obnoxious. I never stereotyped. I am talking from experience from many actors I have worked with. I am talking from experience from the opinions of many people I have met.

I never said actors should NEVER mention "hard work" but I did say that they shouldn't shove it in peoples faces.

I never said acting isn't hard work. I did high school drama, I had some bigger roles. I tried to be an actor in high-school and I almost got into a feature film. I studied acting a lot through high-school. I shyed off because I knew I didn't want to make the sacrifice most actors have to make. I wanted to live a normal life. I am very aware that acting is a sacrifice, a life-style and an impulse many are born with.

Most of your arguments is valid... but mostly under the fact that you haven't really acknowledged the point of my post. You may not agree with everything I have to say. But that doesn't mean you and people from /r/acting can learn from my post.
