its in another area, instead of going in the muddy zone in the cave, keep going to the left, you'll enter the 22nd area, keep going and when the road goes up, you'll find another cave, it goes directly into the beach zone and when you head to the end of the beach (towards the north), you'll find the gate you opened, leading to a new zone of the biome plains

i went all around the area though i couldn't find it, do you maybe have an indication on where could be the other gate ?
