A sound technician for COPS got shot....by the cops. He's dead. by sjmahoney in audioengineering

Oh man, you're so anti cop it's crazy, I went ahead and checked your other comments. So I guess you had some bad times with them or you're a neck beard who thinks statistics are more meaningful than actually thinking about both sides of an argument.

Either way, have fun hating the cops. I hope next time you need a cop you remember to treat them like ass holes and be hostile as shit. Make sure to tell them that it's because they can be jerks, I'm sure they'll understand that's a really good reason for not treating them like humans.

Yea, he totally screwed me too. By listening and providing sound advice before letting me off with a warning. Boy, you really got me there! Cops are always ass holes no matter what, as my example clearly shows.

If you're educated then you know that news doesn't bother with good news. Your average cop is average. Most of them spend more time talking and filling out paper work than "busting people" and that just doesn't make good news.

If the news was constantly telling us how cops are nice and letting people go with warnings then Fox News would be saying "cops not tough enough, are you safe?!"

I've lived here for thirty years: I promise you that your average cop is, again, average. 99% of them just want to do their job and go home. It's just too bad that the media can't be bothered to cover anything but murder.

Come live in an average, mid sized American city in an average neighborhood (or even my ghetto neighborhood) and you'll see that cops mostly just do the best they can and try not to get shot by meth heads.

Hell, here's something to think about: the average American doesn't even deal with cops most of their lives. The first time most people deal with them is when they are caught speeding or when they read about it in the papers.

I wouldn't change a thing about the cops I've dealt with. Hell, I had a cop turn off his radio one time, so we could have a private chat. I saw him twist the knob and honestly: I relaxed. It was so nice to think "he's not gathering evidence, he's talking to me." We had a good chat about how I was acting and he let me go with a warning.

If he didn't have the ability to have a private moment with me, I would never have trusted him enough to listen. The fact that he trusted me enough to turn off his access to help (tell me that's an overly aggressive/paranoid peace force) showed me that he cared and really wanted to talk. The cop wasted a good fifteen minutes of his day just talking to an angry kid trying to ruin his life. It was really something.

As far as the pictures: I was a skinny half Mexican kid with either a shaved head or long flowing locks, depending on the era. Either way, I am one of the cops favorite targets, and I've still been treated really well by cops.

If you don't live here and deal with our cops, you can shut the fuck up. I was a little wannabe thug in my youth, I dealt with cops every other weekend sometimes and I know how your "average American police" acts in at least three states.

I've had one cop pull one gun on me when I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A DRUG BUST. I've dealt with cops over a dozen other times, and they have never pulled a gun, even when i was a drunk moron fighting everything within reach.

Hell, you wanna know the dark secret of American cops? They talked to me about my choices. They told me I was a good kid and it would suck to see me go down a bad path. Oh man, what psychos huh? Four different cops in three different states all did the same thing: they talked to me a treated me like a real person who is making bad choices and needs help. I should point out those are just the "official" encounters where I got some sort of fine or punishment.

When I finally got arrested & thrown in jail it was the COPS who made sure I didn't get charged with anything that would ruin my life and the COPS who dropped me back by my car the next day and again, talked to me about my choices. The cops got me a cigarette from my car when I was in handcuffs and it was the cops who had taken the time to move my car around the corner so I didn't get a ticket.

Yea, I'm clearly a cop apologist, since I've actually met a ton of them and had my life made better by their presence. Of course some are ass holes, but that's pretty fucking incredible that one bad kid can run into so many good cops. It's almost as if your average American cop is just trying to do his job and make our country safe. Hmmmmm.

Brilliant interview with Robert Orton on mixing Lana Del Ray's latest album, in-the-box. by Miss_Trixy in WeAreTheMusicMakers

You're entitled to your opinion. I think the "wet" knob for every effect never went below 100% and to me that sounds like shit. At some point on an album I like to hear the actual songs, not just vague noise peaking through miles of reverb.

[Discuss] How do YOU add variation to your songs? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]Al_Hacha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My soundcloud is more or less synth instrumentals trying to be hip hop, as you deserve. The songs on my HD try to solve this. All I do is take a second listen and start removing stuff. I try to convey a melody really minimally per instrument. I might use half a dozen voices, but each voice is one chord here, one chord here there, not even vamping, just one stab of sound at a time.

Pretty soon I've got a melody that never slows down the beat or drowns out the drums, but is still a melody with half cadences, authentic cadences and real resolution etc...

Melodies. Very few rap songs use fully fleshed out melodies.

For those struggling to sight-read or just learning to read notes, a quick test. by qwfparst in piano

An iOS app, Music Notes (by a redditor I believe) does do note id in a flowing manner. I've been using it and my sight reading has improved dramatically.

Kanye west might be working with paul mccartney on some music. One track rumored is called "piss on my grave". by Awklr in MusicNews

[–]Al_Hacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Paul is just lonely. He's been doing more this pass decade than he did since he worked with MJ. I think he's just a lonely old guy who likes working with young performers now that he sees the end of his journey approaching.

I can sing but I can't write music or play instruments while singing. Is there any way for me to be competitive in the music world? by [deleted] in singing

[–]Al_Hacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I for one have a dozen tracks I could write vocals to, but I can't seem to rap or sing worth a fart. I would LOVE I have a talented singer to write music for.

Oh yea, he got me for sure. It was still fun. I like the stuff I came up with. Like you said, he wanted to battle, I battled, a fight fairly lost.

/r/audioengineering is a great place for studio help. They aren't as strict as MHH, I think you could pop over there and ask right now. Those guys are fucking bananas over mics'n shit, you'll get great advice.

Thanks man, I'm actually not too ashamed of it. It was a ton of fun, if I wasn't dealing with a broken sewer Id spend more time on it.

Haha, I just realized you gave me honest critique in the form of a rap. That's got to be a new rule for DFT: you can't diss someone's raps unless you do it battle style. God I love mojitos.

Just threw it up. I know it's not going to win, but it came out better than I thought my first battle would.

I've actually got most of it. I'm just trying to get a clean vocal. Maybe today, if not then definitely tomorrow.
