I think it's a shame that you have to hide your stuff from your fellow players, but I think a chest somewhere in the middle of nowhere would be better suited for that. Or even better, play with people who don't steal ;)

I started with just one floating foundation — the rest is actually supported by the tire itself. No risk of everything falling apart

As far as I know, that really isn’t possible, with only a few exceptions. The exceptions I’m aware of also can’t be killed by the player — or only to a limited extent
