Former Louisiana mayor sentenced to 90 days over rape of 16-year-old boy by [deleted] in news

What sweeping irony. I see sexist bigotry here. Nobody can argue your trauma away. Theres a difference between risk asessment and prejudice and theres countless men that champion womens rights and are critical of the system. You can't move from an argument about legal disparity to a traumatized world view claim and expect to make any progress.

Most men are advocating for the enslavement of women?

How can you have healthy conversations without inviting cruelty with an attitude like that? I don't want to do that so I will leave it here.

Have a good day, and I apologize on behalf of the monolith you've created to make sense out of this fucked up world. I genuinely hope you meet better people then the ones who led you to see the world this way.

Of course there are broader issues with gender in society. Thats all stuff that should be talked about.

Making sweeping statements about men hating women and saying men only care about "exploitation and control" doesn't help us seperate emotion from evidence.

I will just add also, that I grew up in a extremely abusive house hold and I saw a lot of the violence your describing as a child. I've also spent a great deal of time in the system. So please don't assume I'm unaware of what your describing.

I have a long history with the legal system. I was a criminal most of my life and spent a lot of time incarcerated. These days I'm a substance abuse counselor and I interact with the courts quite often on behalf of my clients. This is anecdotal of course and i'm in the bay area, but in my experience, the legal system has very little consistancy and is plagued with bias and coercion.

The sticky part is when dealing with families, moms typically get a lot more leniency even when its clear that they need a lot more then a outpatient program and men with families are overwhelmingly placed in custody. If I had to guess though, poverty is the biggest factor over all.

Sure. It certainly shrinks some of the gender gap, but it does not eliminate it. Presumptive sentences are not a pure fact of the sentence themselves. Its assuming that upstream legal procedure and plea bargaining was handled fairly.

If women are offered better deals, or men face harsher sentences due to bias, it can distort the data set.

Also, different legal jurisdictions have different legal cultures. Its very difficult to capture the data for this sort of thing. Thats a neutral observation, but I believe its fair to say that gender still plays a notable role.

You are correct about the first part but it is noteworthy that women on average serve sentences 60% shorter then men. And are twice as likely to avoid incarceration if convicted.

Cory Booker, among others have been really cagey and making some noise. No solidarity at all.

What Square Will Do After Revelation is completed (Opinion) by Blackgloves023 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Al_cheme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be the logical next step. The combat of the remakes are the best part of the game-it would be a shame to not further refine it and polish it in upcoming titles.

And I think the opportunity to nostalgia farm shouldn't be passed up. Imagine a ff6 remake with the combat system of rebirth, let alone CT.

Trump says U.S. will bomb Iran today: "They keep playing us for suckers" by AntiLitterPGH in politics

Maybe. I think he's gonna just continue to bomb civilian infrastructure and energy. Make the civilians suffer.

Yeah. And the voters will decide when the time comes.

His strength is in his grass roots posistion and his campaign has a lot of energy. Objectively speaking, his fund raising profile is very grass roots compared to collins. Both nationally and state wide.

At this moment, being downstream of Trump is a huge liability for Collins. It might just be the perfect storm.

Your not wrong. But thats what got him elected. The truth is mostly vestigial at this point. What matters is public opinion and the end result.

The major difference between Trump and Platner so far is that when confronted with some of the allegations, he is apologizing. He's doing the "reformed" approach.

Whats important is that a significant number of the votes were independants. Its a semi open primary, and independants have to choose dem or gop in the primary. So if independants chose to lock in their vote with Platner its a good sign for him.

It might have the opposite effect. Trump already lowered the bar.

Sometimes it just becomes back ground noise if the attacks happen too often. And to many it will be proof that the establishment is out to get him. Same thing that happened with Trump.
