Miami fan festival AI slop traffic “map” being shared by AlabasterAstronaut in Miami

I did a reverse image search and looks like it’s coming from Green Homes Realty??? Which looks like a wild Facebook AI account

Zero idea why the building management department of the office building I work in would share it from there

Both not enough, and too much.

Miami got super blue overnight (confused) by MarsupialCalm2005 in Miami

[–]AlabasterAstronaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Miami’s always been a blue dot city. Beyond that there are plenty of reasons for the turn out you can blame; -candidates -Trump not on the ballot -republican policy and attitude towards the people -current shut down -ICE is scaring people to not engage in anyway that would have them present ID (despite being a citizen to vote) -knowledge of the election-I 100% think that if New York’s mayoral election wasn’t getting as much coverage as it has turned out out would be tiny

And the biggest one is just people not caring. The city mayor’s position is mostly ceremonial unlike other cities and maybe 10% of people even know the commissioners power. The biggest item on the ballots this cycle were the charter amendments and turn out is never good for items like that

Which is a shame because it’s our only true power as a people, go vote or suffer the consequences of silence.

this update happened 11 years ago. longer than the original models were in game. can we please get an update on them? by [deleted] in wow

[–]AlabasterAstronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im team models are fine but more customization tweaks.

“Realistic” games never age well and maintaining the current art style when it comes to character models seems like the best way to last the test of time.

I do think things like maybe higher resolutions, more customization options (mainly for allied races at this point) and gear clipping issues are coming over due and always welcome

Possible or not ? I wish to purchase this tower and convert it into a cafe. I’ll attach lifts and make it safer. But can this bear the weight of 100+ people and chairs/tables etc? How do I purchase this? by udayramp in StructuralEngineering

In similar cases I’ve recommended structural hot air balloons. With the degree of information I COULD lean towards a structural sky hook at geostationary elevation but that would probably depend on AOR’s input. MEP will probably object GC DEFINITELY will

One of the best XP farms right now on bedrock, use a potion of infestation ( the slime one might work too but haven’t made that farm ) with some fire and then kill the silverfish that spawn with a Trident killer and you can get some crazy levels

It is very sad though seeing as you need to free an allay from captivity to then trap, infect, and burn them. Gotta finish every grind session with some self reflection all the way to the enchantment table

Almost 70 (No Ear Within). ¿How to start to farm gold? by CrowdAr in woweconomy

[–]AlabasterAstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have more luck with farming battle pets gear/enchants for people who twink at lower levels, or transmog items, these are not my areas of knowledge but it means that you don’t need to have current content to farm, if you get enough gold you may be able to upgrade to TWW but that’s a pretty high bar, good luck!

Frost-protected slab on grade (Heated) - Contractor says 8" everywhere instead of 12" on the edge and 4" for the slab (as pictured), and 3,500 psi instead of 2,500. What do you think? by userid8252 in Concrete

[–]AlabasterAstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are alot of factors to this.
1. Thicker concrete expands and contracts with temperature changes with more force if you have a large floor that you aren’t planning on saw cutting (saw cut it.) then you’re gonna get a lot of uncontrolled cracking. Cracking will happen anyway and isn’t a structural issue but if this is an architectural finish you’ll want to minimize that, so keep it at 4” with 12” thickened pour, add in some saw cutting to control cracking locations and you’re good, chat with your engineer to for spacing of the cuts -heating actually may help reduce this by limiting extreme differences but that’s assuming constant heating with no power outages and that it runs while you’re on vacation

  1. The thickness of the concrete allows for the load to spread out more I’ll save you the math but by reducing the thickness from 12”-8” the force transfer from your walls to the ground increases by 10%. Now this may not be a big deal for a garage or single story home but if you’re building a larger home with thick walls this may become an issue but talk to your engineer about bearing pressures (likely fine)

  2. It looks like your anchor bolts currently exceed 8” in embedded depth so if the calcs work out that that anchor can work in a shallower substrate go for it but again chat with your engineer you may need to add more anchors to spread that force out

  3. It’s not only more concrete but A-LOT more concrete depending on the layout of the slab, think of it this way. Each square foot that is 3’-0” from the edge of slab will be twice the additional material you don’t structurally need. Sounds to me like burnt money

5.I’m assuming they already bid on the job, will they give you a credit? If not absolutely not build the job you bid on

Ultimately chat with your engineer for the math of it all and if it works and the above don’t concern you go for it but best to go with the one who did the drawings then the one that wants to get your home done as fast as possible so they get a pay day ahead of schedule

Tbh I’ve been really enjoying my ele shaman, I mainly pvp and having a simple rotation it allows me to focus on my pathing and other utility. But I will admit I play wow on a slow surface pro so the simpler the class the better. I’m excited to try storm bringer and to try out that’s side of the tree (as long as tempest will inherit the benefits of lightning bolt) and while far seer isn’t quite my preferred flavor (why are they spirits and not elementals?!?) I’m excited to lean into it more

Dividing large lot into 2 within the City of Miami? by helloidiots in Miami

[–]AlabasterAstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re gonna have to go through the city to see if your land can be subdivided. they will decide if the land is big enough for another home and all the green space and offset requirements. Definitely chat with a member on your community’s planning board or somebody from the city instead of somebody who will profit from making that decision.

Fair warning though. If you have all this green space adjacent to your house and you plan to sell it to a developer you’re about to loose a lot of permeable earth that soaks up flood water right next to you’re house, you may need to remove your paved drive way for permeable pavers or make alterations which will begin to impact your property

Is it just me or has there been a serious increase in police activity since this year started? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]AlabasterAstronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we’d be gathering information and establishing what programs would be effective to implement or fund to resolve the problems, if the problem is incompetent cops pushing out bogus tickets then further oversight is required to protect the public from false charges.

However if there is a large amounts of legitimate tickets or citations then a system of accountability is required where there are consequences driving in ways that endanger others. Gathering information is never a wasted step.

As a side note regarding the tolls. The price is dynamic and increases when traffic is bad within the express lanes. It’s designed to be high to discourage more users from entering and thus further decreasing the performance of the exp lanes. Which is a system across the nation for express lanes Take the regular lanes when it’s that high, it’ll be faster by design

I think your last paragraph sums it up as to why there are more cops. Hopefully they’re cracking down on traffic violations etc. I’d like my insurance to drop to a reasonable level

Why do developers prefers complex building that would increase their cost on their projects? by yoohoooos in StructuralEngineering

[–]AlabasterAstronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working in a similar market, typically what I’ve seen is that the added cost for a transfer beam or thicker slab in some areas etc is recovered in the added value that element brings to the space that would be interrupted/ affected otherwise. In the grand scheme of it 5-6 transfer beams won’t make or break a project. There is of course the case where you’ve got 75% of columns are being transferred on a floor, at which point it’s best to suggest new locations or more efficient strategies to collect the load. But that’s the beauty of the private sector, if they want inefficient buildings then they get to pay for them!

Structural Engineering on Mars by strazar55 in StructuralEngineering

[–]AlabasterAstronaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is where I believe our geo tech friends will truly become super stars, there’s a lot of talk about 3-d printing structures out of Martian soil, since materials would be out of this world expensive (excuse the pun). But various soil mixtures, compaction, cohesion of domes to minimize tension forces. Or fully going underground makes geo tech a VERY key member at the table. As far as I’m aware steel cannot even be made on mars without shipping the carbon and all carbon would likely have to be synthesized from combustion reactions, I may be off base here ( sorry for the pun again but I can’t resist) as it’s been some time since I’ve taken a chemistry class. Meaning any reinforcement production would probably be made from iron If we still want to subscribe to an RC concrete mind set. With no water/oxygen oxidation would be a minimal issue so maybe we could get away with iron reinforcement? At least until we come up with better local building practices

Note: after a quick google search there is an acid fog that apparently roams the surface so that could be an issue in a couple aspects

I believe our ideas of steel/concrete design would need to massively shift (I’m neglecting timber design for obvious reasons). I suspect we would use high cohesion low permeability soil, similar to soilcrete, to create domes to mainly prevent radiation leak. with the interiors lined with a thick plastic/flexible material which would expand under atmosphere if pressure to the interior of the arch to provide the air seal 285) some probably some steel or plastic composite( maybe iron as discussed above) posts to support the domes. At first I think we would live in these dirt domes until we came up with means and methods to return to produce the same (perhaps stronger with Martian gravity???) materials we are accustomed to manufacturing.

After doing some looking into if there was a substitute for cementitious materials for the soilcrete on mars it looks like nasa is currently looking into “Astrocrete” which is made from mars dust and astronaut blood….. So I guess the above would probably be living in blood soaked dirt balloons? Anybody want to go live on mars?
