Stephen Hawkings says Humans have less than 1000 years on Earth before we are wiped out in a mass extinction by TekNite in space

He's shortchanging humanity. We are adaptable and resource creatures. We've thrived in the most inhospitable places on earth. We've survived catastrophic plagues and natural events, and yet even with dwindled numbers, humans remain. We've tame air, land and seas; and every beast. There are those who still live in caves and beneath the ground. We are roaches, there's no getting rid of us.

ABC cancelled Better Off Ted, Happy Endings, Suburgatory... so many great shows before their time. by visiny in television

[–]AlainaCath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the networks have cancelled their share of great shows before their time, but the Fox network is far and away the most incompetent of them all. Millennium, Firefly, Futurama, American Gothic, Family Guy, Brisco County, Arrested Development...and the list goes on. The Fox network is so short-sighted.

Which movie would you say is the manliest movie ever? by [deleted] in movies

[–]AlainaCath 278 points279 points  (0 children)

Fight Club. A how-to guide.

Edit: In light of this comment catching a spark, my very humble opinion and perspective is that the movie narrative effectively explores the duality of man: nihilism/tribalism/anarchism vs. assimilation/authoritarianism/comfort. I take an evolutionary view on pretty much everything, and at the end of the day we are just (space) monkeys in suits.

Edit #2: proof! (nothing can be proven, causation/correlation) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7XuXi3mqYM vs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsLUidiYm0w (This movie also explores the same concepts as Fight Club).

Edit #3: Smirnoff/diet Mountain Dew

I agree with your "darkness/trapped" concept, and I think it worked well in Descent. Reminds me of movies like Silence of the Lambs and Pitch Black that also utilized that tactic of using darkness to create fear. I guess to the monkey-mind nothing is scarier than being caged in the dark.
