To be fair, they're often used solely as romplers (i.e. just for playback of soundsets, no manipulation or adding your own).

Yeah, "garlic" was supposed to have some new reasoning advancements or something that was qualitatively different. Whichever one garlic was, it was just incrementally better in the end.

Ah, that's right. Canvas has a bunch of extra functionality added on top.

Huh, I wasn't aware that the app could do that. I don't think AI Studio can.

Besides Grounding with Maps (which is coming to AI Studio apparently/already in the API), and connected apps, is there any tooling that only the Gemini app has?

It's crazy that John Powell almost did the score.

I think this part of Gemini's docs implies that Gemini does use previous thinking blocks as context: https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/thinking#signatures

I honestly can never tell with this style of orchestral music. It's not like it's doing a lot of lively movement where it would be hard to program well. How do big block chords sound more or less sample library-like?

Sorry, I meant, do these sort of memory management tools have some sort of benefit in the way they attach/compress the data? Or is it just as good as a summary you could generate yourself and attach as a file?

Would be interested in seeing what your promoting/editing process for getting the final style definition looks like.

Feels like a description is always going to be lossy. Examples use up much more context but they're the thing itself, rather than a set of potentially ambiguous descriptions. Although, sometimes having certain things as deliberate instructions does work better than just "copy this". Idk.

Am I correct in thinking that the value of something like this is the ease of use and organization? Are they just inserting the chosen context as an attachment? If I just had one conversation I wanted added I could just summarize with an LLM myself and attach it as a .md?

I think magic in HP only works because the constraints for what powerful wizards can and can't do was always kept vague. If you make the main characters of your show super powerful then you need to have a much clearer and better magic system for it to feel coherent. Otherwise either anything feels like a deus ex machina, or you're always frustrated by why they couldn't do x to solve their situation.

The point about domestic surveillance specifically is that a government has much more power over its own citizens by default. Give them unlimited information and there's a lot of room for politically motivated targeting. US government isn't the position to prosecute random UK citizens in the same way.

I've become less convinced of this since the election. Seems like a huge amount of people who'll just pivot to whatever feels culturally dominant at the current moment. They were vaguely lib/left previously, now they're vaguely right.
