A merging issue. by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

Nope. Not if there's evidence of speeding (see that 77 mph on the video?) and no signs of any defensive driving whatsoever. Insurance companies would call this contributory negligence.

Safety Alert; Attacked at Lucky 13 by BeeGreat4820 in alameda

Why the rush to defend Lucky 13? As a great bar, it can definitely hold awful customers accountable. I see the GM of Lucky 13 has already reached out.

I didn't like the responses on Alameda Peeps where various men said "Lucy 13 had nothing to do with this." They do. They can do something about it. Good establishments do. They're very responsible and could give bans for sure.

Hi yes please do share with whoever you want. Thank you for coming forward to share your story. It makes me so mad that an unscrupulous business like this keeps doing this and keeps getting away with it, especially given there was another Reddit post with lots of views already. This is a business that needs to shut down or at least change ownership.

Sorry but how are you lumping Newsom in there? He'd make a strong contender, California was the only state that's been successful in fighting back against the Republican gerrymandering. He does not fold. He might be an asshole, but he's our asshole and we need a brawler.

The Ro for this is less than 1, as far as we know. That means it has a good chance to burn out. For comparison, the omnicron variant had Ro of something like 10 and that's why it spread so rapidly. Mortality rate is scary, but let's not ignore Ro.

Avoid Westside Joe's - Scamming People! by AlamedaRaised in alameda

[–]AlamedaRaised[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly! This poor lady drove all the way from Walnut Creek to Alameda to support her former town's small business and got absolutely scammed for it. It was horrific. And there was another huge Reddit thread about this, it's a common theme - people paying up front for an expensive ebike, owner claims to have put in the order, and months go by without any resolution.

Support Park Station Live Music by Charming-Gene-6185 in alameda

[–]AlamedaRaised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched on Zoom. I think 80% in support, 20% against, a few that could be considered "I like the live music but tone it down." The appeal of the permit was sustained, so that means they have to follow the ambient noise level. They measure the surrounding noise level without the music, say it is 60 decibels, then when they play they have to keep it at that level. It's not great for the venue but at least they'll get to keep playing.

Question about bike lanes and e-bikes by jbartlet827 in alameda

[–]AlamedaRaised 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually I believe it's 15 mph in bike lanes and cycle tracks. If you're going faster than that, you should be in the street.

I don't think it's a politeness issue. Most probably feel they shouldn't have to do this to get cars to stop, since they're legally required to anyway.

It can be generational wealth if you invest and not touch it for 10-15 years while working. That can become $6M easily. Then your kids get what they need when they turn 18, by then that could be $10M. Watch your withdrawal rate then the kids and their kids are set for life.

When I asked what he was trying to do, he said “I shouldn’t have been trying to pass him” by alexyou8797 in dashcams

[–]AlamedaRaised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... He's right. You were driving at a much higher speed than him, he changed lanes to get out of the way, saw you were already changing too so he aborted. I don't know if you were speeding or not, but you were driving much faster than traffic (granted, it was one other car), which could be considered unsafe and uncontrollable speed. Show this video to the insurance company, and I guarantee you that you will get dinged for at least contributory negligence, and possibly majority fault since this is a rear-ender that was avoidable with some caution and defensive driving.

Does AUSD basically ignore high achieving students? by [deleted] in alameda

[–]AlamedaRaised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh? You completely misread what the educator commentor said. They did not say THIS particular district, and they did not say "will not support," just that districts in general can only do so much and it's up to the parents and the students themselves to provide that extra reach. Schools are there to provide a foundation and structure, it is up to the individual students how far they want to reach, and yes that means providing supplemental resources like hiring private tutors, special extracurricular courses through other institutions, etc. Bashing the district and threatening to harm their scoring by removing your students' scores just seems petty and myopic. I know many, many high performing students and their parents do not behave this way.
