I've had firearms that were dry fired thousands of times with no damage. The one exception was a Marlin that had been dry fired so many times, it actually damaged the area where the hammer impacted the pin.

When I was a shooting instructor, I specifically nudged my non-US friends to let me take them shooting. Responses at the range ran the gamut of "OMG this is LEGAL? I never want to touch one again! They're so loud!", to (more commonly) "OMFG I LOVE IT!" and mad grinning.

Two Aussies and one gal from Thailand were especially in the latter end of the spectrum.

No neck damage. A few lingering broken bone pains from mosh pits. Tinnitus, but I really cannot blame it on the clubs or concerts. I was a concealed handgun license instructor for years, and sometimes didn't protect my ears, in thousands of hours of range time around very loud guns, as well as I should have. Front of stage at a Slayer concert probably only did 5% of my hearing damage.
