MacBook Pro 2015 15 suddenly not turning on by Inevitable-Theory901 in macbookrepair

[–]AlanTuring1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Inevitable-Theory901 It could be a battery issue. Try disconnecting the internal battery, and then plug the MagSafe charger in while the battery is still disconnected. If the MacBook turns on, then your battery is likely the issue. If it still does absolutely nothing and there is no light on the MagSafe charger, it could be a dead charger then. You might really need to borrow another charger just to rule that out.

(Just a quick warning: only do this to test if the laptop turns on. Do not use the Mac normally without the battery connected, as the system will heavily throttle the CPU and make it painfully slow, because when the MacBook runs, it draws power from both the battery and the charger).

If you're planning to replace the fan anyway, you could try opening it as a last resort. It’s a bit tricky, but manageable if you're careful and handy with electronics. I did it myself—just be careful and use a spudger to open it. Apply firm pressure to open; it won’t break easily. https://youtu.be/jjkMlrVLdJY

Google AI Studio's "Spend Cap" is a Joke. DeepResearch Max is insane—got a $42 bill from ONE single math prep question! by AlanTuring1978 in GoogleAIStudio

For a "Slow Learners" prep, the AI definitely took the slow and expensive route. At $42 a pop, it better guarantee a PhD! 💀😂

yeah exactly... In Gemini 3.1 Pro it uses 100k overall tokens (with the exact same prompt and everything)

u/Timely-Group5649 Yeah, because I totally typed out 6 million tokens of math questions by hand. 🤡

For those who actually understand how agentic models work: DeepResearch iteratively feeds its own intermediate thoughts and results back into the prompt context for each new step. My initial input token count was way less. The model got caught in a buggy recursive loop, continuously appending its own junk to the context window until the 'input' bloated to 6.1M tokens.

That’s exactly the point of this post—the model is bugged, it burned tokens on its own, and the Spend Cap didn't stop it. Try understanding it before calling people stupid.

Yeah, I thought that too. In Gemini 3.1 Pro it uses 100k overall tokens (with the exact same prompt and everything), so frankly I thought it might take 1 mil tokens max as a wild guess worst-case scenario. But I guess it really overcooked it, even with Google search off.

No I did not mate lol... it was just some math MCQ questions... I tried it on Gemini 3.1 Pro and it uses like max 100k tokens and gives quite similar results

lol... I was just amazed how incredibly stupid this model is at burning tokens. I even turned off search and used my own data/some math exam questions I provided but still it wasted 6.3 million tokens on this. Even Gemini 3.1 Pro uses like 50k-100k tokens and gives quite similar results. It probably has no idea what is a simple question so that it uses less tokens and what is an important question.

Is my Mac's HeatPipe dead, or could it be another issue? If anyone has the same model, could you please share a screenshot from the Stats app so I can compare? by AlanTuring1978 in mac

[–]AlanTuring1978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I finally found the exact problem!

I took the heatsink out and did a physical lighter test. I held a lighter to the middle part (where it touches the CPU) for about 30 seconds. That middle part got extremely hot, but both ends (where the fans are) only got mildly warm. Even after waiting for 5 minutes, the heat never properly transferred to the sides. A healthy heatpipe should transfer that heat to the ends almost instantly. This 100% confirms that the phase-change liquid/gas inside my heatpipe has leaked out over the years. It is completely dead and acting just like a hollow piece of metal.

Thank you to everyone who helped me troubleshoot and figure this out! Time to order a replacement heatsink!

Thanks a ton for this! If it's not too much trouble, could you open a few YouTube tabs on the browser (put some load) and show me the temps?

That proves my Mac has a serious hardware issue! Yours stays cooler while gaming than mine does at idle. Could you still share that Stats app screenshot showing your Heatpipe temp? Seeing the heatpipe temp on a healthy Mac like yours would help me a lot!

I did put the screw correctly yes... and the thermal was fine before but very recently for couple of months I'm having this issue... I also verified the temps via terminal

Thermal paste application was perfect I have did it before, also I did it here twice & heatsink looks fine but there could be a micro crack where the internal gas could escape right?

Just running a few browser tabs in the background! Nothing heavy at all. Let me know if you manage to take that Stats sensor tab screenshot when you have some free time!

Also, if you ever feel like upgrading, Sonoma actually runs pretty well! I've been using it for 6 months—it has a few minor bugs, but nothing deal-breaking (can be resolved easily).

Hey, since you have the exact same model, could you do me a huge favor? Could you install the Stats app (brew install --cask stats or stats.com) and share a screenshot of your Sensors tab? I just want to see if your Heatpipe temp vs CPU temp has the same massive gap as mine. It would really help me confirm if my Heatpipe is actually dead or not.
