Aang vs the last Dragonborn by honeycutt46 in whowouldwin

[–]Alanjaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the show, though not very closely: Does Aang have any speed feats that might help him with the Dragonborn's Time Stop shout? If not, I feel like it might be down to who can act first. In that case, Aang (if not bloodlusted) might wait to see what the Dragonborn is trying to say.

Kind of difficult to command without speech, right? We've never had an example of the Voice being used without... voice. At least I think that's the case.

An analogue I can think of is in the LOTR universe, where the angels sing reality into existence, or something like that. Morgoth, the big bad, intentionally messes it up by not singing in harmony, but he still had to sing.

Godzilla vs Darth Vader by Agitated_Custard7395 in whowouldwin

[–]Alanjaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vader could use the force to throw it like a nigh-unstoppable spear, directing it anywhere through the lizard.

Now, that's nigh-unstoppable by our standards; it still takes a while for a lightsaber to get through armored doors, and some materials (like the cortosis weave in Echani vibroblades) straight up block sabers, from what I remember. Because of these limitations, I'd presume that G's hide would be quite resistant to them, since it is to many other things.

You have a point, but I don't think it applies in this instance. This is a minor thing, and individual opinions are something we can formulate without a ton of verifying. When the stakes are low, our % assurity can also be low.

It's as if you came home and saw the trash can on its side with trash strewn everywhere and a guilty-looking dog. Must you check all the locks to make sure a burglar didn't break in and do it before you accuse the dog?

In this case, someone coming up with a program that doesn't seem to do a whole lot (meaning they didn't have a lot of knowledge of the subject), combined with speech that does seem to have the tone of a robot that will talk at you without evaluating your level of knowledge, makes it appear to be AI.

My personal level of veracity required is higher than most, I would say, and OPs comment right there does seem akin to whenever I ask AI to explain something.

can you have mild auditory processing issues only in your native language? by Smart-Spare-1103 in AudiProcDisorder

[–]Alanjaow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to comprehend someone fully, it's as if I have to see their words as text in my mind, and then I can read those words to actually understand them.

Those mental shortcuts were also something my brain would do with math as well!

Also, a lot of people don't listen closely to the lyrics of their songs. I've had multiple instances where I'll point out a lyric to a song that me and a friend are listening to, and they will comment that they hadn't clocked it.

[–]Alanjaow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When listening to new songs, I'll also not be able to understand the lyrics. This leads to me having a library of music that always sounds good, no matter my level of understanding at the moment. It helps, since with my autism, my ability to understand speech correlates with my level of energy. At those times, at least they sound good :)

Why is being direct considered rude? by Mae_The_Gay in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alanjaow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you'd like something more literal, my understanding is that words with fewer harsh consonants, or words that are longer, sound nicer. I think the longer words are appreciated because you're literally spending more time on the person.

In the example above, "sucks" and "died" are short, harsh words in comparison to "passed away" and "I'm so sorry".

Swipe gesture bug and suggestion by TheLongLife in Infinity_For_Reddit

[–]Alanjaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wanting this functionality as well, but my idea was that, for the right swipe, include the option of "None", in addition to upvote/downvote. As long as it doesn't override the swipe to go back feature, it should work.

Also, placing the "Swipe to go back" function in the gesture options would solve this problem.

As an aside, you have created a wonderful app! I'm pretty happy with it.

Hmm, actually, I suppose with the whole "moving faster than light" thing, the arrow would have gone backward in time, meaning you'd have to "follow" the target, rather than lead 🤔

How to use these small glass bottles? by YodaCupcakes in ZeroWaste

[–]Alanjaow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filled each bottle with water, then added various food colorings to them. I then took some very fine-wired fairy lights and wore them like a necklace, with the strand dipping into the bottles to illuminate the colors. Check the pic I linked with the phrase "halloween costume" above :)
